I'm no fan of Kinect either, but some of those lighting effects were genuinely impressive. If those effects going off the bodies in the firework sequence are done in real time, that's pretty significant.

If not, then at least it will be decent Quick Look fodder.

I will pay upwards of $20 for interactive lava floor.

Posted by Sanj

There's a whole bunch of Double Fine staff in that trailer.

Posted by CrashTanuki

Huge disappointment. I was expecting the next game from Double Fine to be a normal game.

Posted by Perrin

Anyone else think Double Fine are at this point making games specifically for the Whisky Media guys? Looks great silly fun.

Posted by Maitimo

I guess it'll pay the bills and help them build a war chest to self-fund Psychonauts 2 or something.

I get that Kinect hate is a thing, but I'm not sure how you can see interactive floor lava and fireworks exploding from high-fives without your inner child letting a "sqeeeee" out. If you're going to argue about something after watching this video, argue about whether it's going to be a game or just a weird interactive video thing. Saying you'd rather be playing a HD version of a 20-year-old adventure game just makes you sound like one of those grumpy old bastards who's running out the clock by bitching about post-Falcon 3.0 flight sims all being terrible.

Wow! A floor is lava minigame may be the most ingenious use of Kinect I've seen so far.

Posted by allodude

This is perfect for the Happy Hour.

Posted by Jethuty

@willsmith: On the internet, its a given that people will bitch about anything, or everything. But its impossible to tell what they will have an odd affection for.

Posted by pakattak

@willsmith: The lava thing is what got me the most. Reminded me of the days my little brother and I pretended the carpet was lava and we had to hop on chairs and throw pillows.

Posted by pakattak

Watched it again, and I really don't understand the hate. For christ's sake, people, this is the equivalent of a fun-house mirror with really crazy special effects.

How could you not like this?

Posted by YoThatLimp

This seems great for kids and people who are current under the influence of drugs...and well the small market of kids who are current under the influence of drugs.

Posted by Beanpants

This is it. The reason to own a Kinect is here.

Posted by I_smell

Cool. ...it's free, right?

@ESREVER: I know right!! How did we go this long without someone trying that?

I love you Will Smith. I take back everything I said about Tested.

If this somehow gets someone to make a new " You are Ralph" Rampage Kinect game, I'm all in.

Posted by Thoseposers

Well i thought it looked like tons of fun :) i know it's not something that would hold my interest for tons of time but it looks like an awesome thing to just mess around with

Posted by Bravestar

I thought this was pretty sweet. Actually one of the best kinect things I have seen(fireworks when you high five? amazing). Then I scrolled down, read the comments and had a good laugh. Oh angry nerds, you entertain me with your bitter hearts.

Posted by SamFo

If this was made in japan you would all be going nuts for it.

Posted by GunslingerPanda

Well, that's a shame. Was interested to see where Double Fine were gonna go, but this is completely the wrong direction for me.

Posted by InflectionPixel

Even if this isn't some people's style, remember when DF had four drastically different styles of games in production at practically the same time in Costume Quest, Stacking, Trenched, and Sesame Street? That even if some of those were not for you, the others might have been? I have inklings that the bag of things DF is pulling all these ideas out of is far from empty.

I am about to trip fucking balls.

Posted by krabboss

Even if it's for the kids, I don't think it's a great game. It seems be a toy whose gimmick will run out of steam within a few hours. This is the first trailer they've put out for it though, so it's possible there'll be some more stuff going on that will bring people (kids) back to the game. Maybe.

Posted by krabboss

@SamFo: If it was made in Japan, it wouldn't be this. At the very least, the trailer wouldn't be this. And people would only be excited about the trailer, not the game. How many people buy those silly obscure Japanese games? Not many.

Double Fine has produced an action/adventure platformer set in the minds of crazy people, a action/adventure/RTS hybrid in a world of heavy metal, a classic-JRPG-style adventure about some kids on Halloween, an old-school puzzle based adventure about Matryoshka dolls in the industrial revolution, an action/tower defense hybrid about mechanized mobile trench systems, a Kinect-based Sesame Street interactive storybook for very young children, and now apparently some kind of insane collection of Kinect-based toys or minigames or who the hell knows for children and maybe adults.

All this is to say that "where Double Fine is going to go" is "wherever the hell Double Fine wants to go", which just so happens to probably be every direction. All of them. All at the same time. Probably while doing cartwheels and moonwalking.

I won't buy this only because I won't buy a Kinect, but it looks to be about the only thing besides The Gunstringer to have a chance of being actually worth trying at the very least. Because the things Double Fine makes are wonderful, even when they are not great. Though for my money they have all been great too, so that makes things easier.

Posted by Pudge

I think I played this as a tech demo for motion games at EPCOT in 1995.

Damn everyone who didn't buy Brutal Legend! THAT GAME WAS SO GOOD, I WANT MORE.

Posted by Babymauler

What is important here is tht kinect can detect dogs.

Could only get audio of this but:

So Doublefine is making LSD: The Game?

I know people are taking a shit all over this, but this isn't meant for us. So I'm not going to crap down their throats over it. I'm not bothered by it.

Posted by vinsanityv22

Whatever is going on at 0:29 is nightmarish

Posted by damswedon

So Double Fine realised what makes Kinect great and decided to make a "game" based on that.

Double Fine will be bought and this will be the shite that Microsoft forces them to pump out for the Kinect.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I sincerely hope we're both wrong, but considering how MS bought Twisted Pixel recently, and they've put BOTH Rare and Twisted Pixel to work exclusively for Kinect stuff, I fear we're probably right:( I mean c'mon - MS nixed all their first and second party studios besides Rare. All they seem to want now are studios who can pump out Kinect games. This does not bode well for Double Fine.

I've always wanted a game where I could scare pigeons away!

Posted by UncleBenny

finally, my dream of dying in a pool of lava can finally come true.

Posted by Conojo

This is exactly, exactly how I imagined a Tim and Eric game would look

Posted by JakeLogan

That's certainly a Kinect game

Posted by Stubert73

Yeah, totally appreciate the negative feelings, but I actually smiled watching the trailer. I mean, the floor is LAVA! Crushing virtual buildings! That's stuff I would have loved playing as a kid, and I would definitely give it a go as an adult. Seriously, the Kinect has done nothing but interrupt my video playback for awhile now (who told you to stop, Kinect?!); I'd love to just goof off with this game collection.

Or it's the kind of shit that will get them the money that convinces them that making even more shit will make them even more money.

Oh man, companies trying to make money! Blasphemy!

I'm relatively sure you missed his point.

LSD: The Game is technically already a thing, minus the subtitle. But I digress.

I just bit off 129% of my tongue.

Posted by sagesebas

Im interested in what sort of impact this has for them i cant imagine it selling super well

Posted by Masha2932

Looks like a bunch of screen savers thrown together. However, the kids seem to be having fun.

Edited by Phatmac

Buy this game then you'll get another Grim Fandango. Double Fine hasn't forgotten their roots, they just need money. Buy their games and then you'll get a quirky innovative game eventually.

Posted by Soviut

I really dig the concept of floor-based games; Smashing buildings and such. Nobody's really put much effort into commercial augmented reality with Kinect and this looks like a really good attempt at it.

MONEY GRAB THEATER!

Edited by ffdthree

at the very least, this made me want to start a family. Also, I like the music.

Posted by Kyou42

These games are great. The only thing I've enjoyed playing with kinect are crazy ass games like these. I know children will fucking love it. I'd love to play this with my godchild.

I don't see why you guys are hating so much on this game. You're not the target; get the fuck over it. Double Fine doesn't owe you anything. They just have ideas and make games based on those ideas. They do all types of games and that's one of the reasons they are so awesome.

Jesus.

This actually looks like a lot of ridiculous fun to me. Crazy.
