Welcome to the Jungle of Crysis 3

The way he's smoking dudes with that bow, you'd think it was Legolas underneath that suit. Or Ted Nugent.

@umdesch4:  I think it was a little more then just that. Crysis 1 was very open ended, to point where some people consider it to be more of a tech demo then a game. Crysis 2 had open areas but they were pretty small compared to what was available to you in the first game.
Some people thought that when Crysis 1 was horizontally large, Crysis 2 was vertically large instead. Both were fairly open-ended FPSs in different ways.

You sure it's not Katniss Everdeen in that suit? You know, Metroid style?

I hated Crysis 1 as well. On the higher difficulties the only powers that worked were stealth and shield, which essentially killed the game for me. I guess I am one of the few, but I really don't get why Crysis 3 is even being made... I assume 2 sold well enough to warrant a sequel :/

I don't know what it is, but I have a strong dislike for fighting aliens. Aliens are always some sort of emotionless hurr-durr killing machines that soak up bullets for no apparent reason, while humans a chatty, cowardly, idiotic, fragile and often hilarious enemies.

Wasting aliens always feels like a cop-out, an admission like "We had no idea how to make human enemies more challenging, so rather than try to innovate, we made aliums."

I love reading how divisive these comments are. It's cool how people either love or hate fighting the aliens and love or hate the environments from the different games. I've never played these games, but I still can't tell if it's a pretty good game people like to say is bad or a bad game people cling on to that it's good. I've always been interested in Crysis. Is it worth going back to the first one?

I wouldn't judge too hardly for an early trailer. I mean they might have used a lot of Cry 2 for this just to get some early attention.

Wow, that was actually boring. Reused animations and enemy's just really brought me down. It feels good and bad at the same time to be able to recognize a cash grab.

So doesn't anyone who's ever played Crysis 1/2 pretty much agree that the best parts are the parts without the goddamn aliens? Why do they keep putting the aliens in?

I actually liked the aliens in Crysis 2. I wasn't a fan of them in Crysis, though. Did they even show up much in Warhead? I like Warhead.

They definitely did, and quite prominently. Warhead is my least favorite of the Crysis games (if we consider it a separate game). Less impressive visuals, glitchy and far more linear than Crysis. Crysis is still the best by far imo. Until the goddamn aliens, anyway. You're right in that regard, they didn't suck nearly as much in Crysis 2, but still. Let me hunt the most dangerous game.

I agree, let me fight humans, the aliens were boring as hell.

I only played Crysis 2 ... but fuck that game was disappointing. The field of view was so narrow and the game borderline punishes you for playing stealth. The only way to get those upgrade points was to take down aliens, but good luck stealth killing them when you can only stay invisible for 15 seconds. Boring guns, AWFUL story, overrated graphics (IMHO)... even the city felt flat and boring. This hybrid city-jungle could be cool ... but the fundamentals of this game suck.

Remember that section on the floating Central Park? Did anybody actually think that was going to be fun? Why was my guy silent the whole fucking game? He could have said so many things to help his allys. Why did I keep getting knocked out? There's a least five times in that game I was knocked out or taken down by an EMP. Why was the army trying to kill the one dude with enough firepower to STOP the aliens? Why promote stealth and tactics when there's no way to see the area around? Give me a mini-map! Why couldn't I blow up the environment? Even the mailboxes were indestructible.

Crysis is overrated.

I didn't really like the first Crysis, but I loved Crysis 2 surprisingly. I felt they refined the suit powers and made them actually useful by streamlining them. Manually switching to Strength to punch a dude or Speed to sprint was too intrusive to the gameplay. Plus the AI was totally broken if you were cloaked, as ANY it always felt like if you bumped into anything, guys from across the map would hear you and immediately shoot you.

Crysis 2 was a huge improvement, so I'm holding back my skepticism and am actually interested in seeing where this goes.

Transformers bass hum. Haven't heard that since The Avengers trailer.

The first Crysis was an open, well... more open, world FPS with specs to make the newest PC rigs cry. The 2nd one removed all that. Now it seems like another generic FPS franchise. EA sure does know how to buy out and burn through potential franchises.

I have a feeling that people are going to use the bow once or twice just to see how it is and then just switch to an automatic gun that is silenced. I really don't get the point of them pushing the bow and arrow as a selling point. The dude is wearing the most advanced piece of technology in the world but he's fighting aliens with technology developed 10000+ years ago? But I guess it comes down to "IT'S A VIDEO GAME Y'ALL".

People talk about how good Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 2 look.

Incomparable, in my opinion. Unreal may be a cakewalk to develop for, but CryEngine looks worlds better.

And, no, it's not a class act shooter, but it plays a good mark above average. Sometimes I wonder if all of the consumer reviewers work for other developers.

@umdesch4: people liked it so much at the time because it looked good and was the benchmark for pcs at the time. The game still doesn't run that great, its not exactly a master peice in terms of coding not to mention it uses direct x 10 which was not a long boat ride to begin with. Also alot of people disliked the fact that they couldnt play the game on their rigs "too expensive" or w/e. Crysis 2 is also somewhat of a tech showcase though, it uses their latest engine which provides excellent demonstrations of both capabilities of DX11 and CryEngine 3, the lighting and reflections to name a couple really bring the mood, not to mention you could play this on a more cost effective rig, that was a good thing, you really need to play it in direct X 11 before you can compare its looks to consoles, its quite a jump.

I'm not exactly sure why people consider more open games automatically awsome, sure there was alot of space in crysis but theres nothing to do in there. Crysis 2 stream lined it alot. Crysis 3 i hear will be in the middle ground. Just hoping they make it a little more interesting with the alien variety by 2013.

As for Crysis one and the expansion..only thing I didn't like about them was the Aliens. I will try again onetime, but loved the graphics now that I got a 570 2 banger, and the combat with the N. Koreans. One thing I do remember was going through the spaceship with that distant cassette player(or something) putting out some pretty decent psy. And of course I liked the open worlds.

Crisis 2, almost only the suit. The suit and what it lets you do, within reason .Some ppl. expected to be superman in it (like Ted against an animal), that wasn't the realistic goal. It was rather one person being able to even up the odds with multiple opponents.

It seems like they really don't want to accept that their vision for Crysis isn't perfect. I haven't played 2, but after 1 I am of the opinion that near-future human-on-human combat is the way they should have went.

Or fuck it - if they want to do aliens, then get the Predator license and go back to the jungle from Crysis 1. Imagine If it turned out that Predators were skinning Koreans and anyone else who landed on the island - and the twist was kept a secret in the promotional material (like they tried to do with the aliens)...

@Humanity I personally love Crysis 1. I can't think of an open world fps like that where you have so many options. It also had a pretty good story (as FPSs go) & I thought the sections going through the alien craft & the aircraft carrier were excellent. I agree that fighting the aliens was pretty crap though.

I really don't know what to feel about the game. I wish I wasn't as disappointed in Crysis 2 as I was, this kind of just looks the same with a few new additions and a new environment. I guess if they have better voice acting, far less bugs on the console versions, I can go prone for tactical use, and better A.I. I'll like it more... maybe. I loved Crysis, this just kind of feels like the Call of Duty for Crysis. Another year, another Crysis that doesn't do much to differentiate it from its predecessor, except that means more to Crysis than it does COD. I guess I'll see.

So they've made it look even better. Well, thats just great. Now if they can make it run at 25fps+ on consoles at all times, well that'd be better.

Overall tho.

I don't understand the people that have a deep rooted love for Crysis 1 and hate Crysis 2.

I think the deep rooted love for Crysis 1 comes from people who bought high end PCs in late 2007 and were able to run something with stunning graphics that used the full horsepower of their machines. Crysis 2, well...it looks pretty much the same on console as PC, and hence loses the one thing that made the first one unique and interesting.

Look at the trailer. "The best-looking shooter ever is back" is their first hype quote.

Anyway, I'm merely stating what it seems like to me, from reading comments, forums, reviews over the years. My own experience was that Crysis 1 was a very pretty slideshow at about 15 FPS on my aging rig at the time, and I never played 2.

I wish they went an made a Deus Ex (HR) type of game (with all the suit powers obviously) in the jungle after Crysis 1. But instead they just make some pretty cool slightly better than Halo and Call of Duty shooter campaigns. Meh. Oh well.
