Hmm, I got an Origin 25% discount code from EA 6 months ago that expires end of January. This is probably the only candidate for using it, so I guess I'm preordering...

It's not so much as people don't have friends to play the game with it's that the development team will spend to much time creating a co-op action shooter rather than a solo survival horror game which people want from this series..

They should just add HorrorLog to it, make it like all the other crap mainstream consumers buy.

I'm gonna remain hopeful that this turns out great. It looks really good from a game perspective, it just remains to be seen if it's good from a Dead Space perspective. Fingers crossed. I'm gonna get it regardless, that's not even an option.

I'm not on the edge of my seat for this one ... but I liked Dead Space 1+2, so depending on whats on my to-play list when this comes out I will probably give it a try. If they manage to do the "I see things"-stuff right (not only in cutscenes and not predictable) that might be a really cool twist on horror/coop.

If they can really play on one person seeing something that isn't there in coop, then that could be cool. Otherwise, I'm playing dead space for the alone and hopeless feeling.

I was okay with Dead Space 2 being the last dead space game. I guess I'll play this too, I hope it will be good cause from the trailer looks a lot different than the other ones.

Huh... I understand, though to me Dead Space should come first before any of the larger games that take all your time up. But I got it.

Good Single Player experience as a horror/survivor game ahould be, I'm happy. Not that I mind either ammo/weapons in Dead Space, or the ocassional friend. Sorry about that eyeball, but then I got mine, also.

Co-op though is for replaying for fun with yo bros. I do not mind it,except for the corporate attitude that it or especially MP is a neccessary addition to every game. Especially MP...put that effort into the campaign. COD needs that kind of love, not Dead Space.

I don't really know what to think about DS3, i enjoyed the 1 & 2 so naturally i should like this right? Now the Co-op is a non-issue for me as i'll play through this twice, but for some reason i get this feeling that won't not be anywhere near as good as i want it to, but maybe that's just the 3 freaking me out.

I'm tired of multiplayer and co-op being shoehorned into every game there is. The last and only game I bought to play online was FIFA 12 and after circa 1000 tries I've managed to play about 50 matches. Rage quitting and connection lost being the norm. I have to admit that not many rage quitted because of my skills, I suck at FIFA, but connection lost happened all the time, making it unplayable. I also tried co-op in Dead Rising, twice, and both times the joining players were total assholes, doing their best to fuck me up. No thanks.

Seems like a bummer, to me at least, that Ellie Langford was deemed not a good enough character to be second player in the co-op mode. Even though she proved herself pretty capable against necromorphs and insane people in Dead Space 2. I think I would have been a little less skeptical of co-op mode if it was basically Issac and Ellie versus the universe. You know, instead of some random soldier dude tagging along.

Of course, I haven't kept up with the marketing. Maybe they have a good narrative reason she's not running around with plasma cutters. But overall, I think the Two Best Friends Play guys put it the best, it's possible they don't fuck it up. It's possible.

@Garfield518: It's the same campaign but playing in co-op has an impact story wise because there's interactions between Isaac and Carver.

Visceral has tried to be really explicit in explaining that the co-op is optional and if you play single player, there is no AI follower. Hearing them push that so hard actually really relieved me and I'm finally excited for this franchise again. They sound like they know what fans want and are trying not to screw it up because of the EA business side of stuff. This seems cool so far.

From what I've read, you get access to more missions and story content in co-op than you do in single player.

More or less all the promotion so far prioritizes the co-op experience. On the one hand I can appreciate Visceral wanting to trumpet this new feature, because it's intended to bring more people into the game (and make it less 'scary'), but on the other the more I see the less I feel this game is what I wanted from the third Dead Space.

You'd be hard pressed to convince me they 'know what fans want' so much as they want new fans who never liked Dead Space to begin with; so to get those new fans they're turning the experience into something more palatable for them, less for me. I do love this series. I just don't love this direction, especially with gating content behind an 'optional' mode. But I also don't think they should have designed the game with an AI follower.

So maybe I'm just bummed they've changed something I liked just fine the way it was.

This is one of the more troubling trends that has cropped up mostly in this current generation of games. New IP breaks ground with unique idea, sells well. Sequel to new IP is made less unique in order to bring in wider audience and more sales, banking on the name recognition of the first game for the added boost. Third game in what is now "franchise" continues the trend of removing things that made the original interesting and a hit seller in the first place in hopes of even wider audience.

It's gross. Disgusting antithesis of creativity in a medium that is increasingly run more by marketing and PR people than it is by the folks actually putting together the games. It's enough to make me want to see the entire console market crash under the weight of its own deluge of mediocrity.

Why are so many people bitching about how they ruined Dead Space by adding co-op? You can play single player by yourself if you want to. I love DS 1 and 2. I think this looks awesome and I will be getting it day one. I like the shift to more action, but that does not mean it can't be tense and scary.

If it is a action game it will not be tense and scary because the ACTION is the important part. It is the main part of it and only one or 2 games have manged to do both. AvP 2 and System shock 2.

Dead Space 2 was barley tense in any point and this is not making any show of being more interesting Especially not with the "NOW you shoot doods" as part of the game system's.

The problem I see here is that a lot of people are disregarding the rest of the quality the game has to offer just because of one aspect. Dead Space has always had more than just the horror, and I've never thought of Dead Space as a franchise that has a one trick pony to hold the rest up. And then let's not forget how Dead Space 3, while it'll have more action I'm sure, isn't abandoning the horror altogether.

I feel like it's going to be a different type of horror in many spots, but it'll work just as well as what we've seen in the past on its own. When it comes to the co-op, and how people complained about it, if you think about it, since this is EA, it could have been either another multiplayer, or co-op; I personally love the idea of having the co-op that focuses on the campaign; the story, rather than a somewhat fun, though mostly tacked on-feeling multiplayer.

And yes, it doesn't even have to be a co-op game, but I think after those that experience the games single player portion, and if they enjoyed it enough, or maybe even if they didn't, they may be compelled to see what the co-op has to offer since we already know it has more and interesting aspects. Dead Space 2 I'm sure is pretty intense, or "tense" on it's hardest difficulty. I agree though, Dead Space 2 wasn't nearly as scary as the original, but for me, like I said before down below, it wasn't any less great.

I just hate how so many people are saying this has already failed, and that they're definitely not buying it, because I do believe even if this game won't stack up to what some have wanted, it'll be worth a try. I hope people don't give up on it; Visceral, the team behind Dead Space are a fantastic group of people and to just give up on a beloved series now is just sad. I guess what I'm saying here doesn't really matter though since most will see it as "This is my money, and if I don't like what I see, I ain't paying for it." That's understandable.

@Lind_L_Taylor: Yeah, you really need to play Dead Space. If you love sci-fi, you'll really like it, and the horror (especially from the first) is really great. I recommend playing the game on Impossible mode at some point, and taking your time. So don't just run through everything, but experience all the little things, it'll enhance the mood. I personally love Dead Space for its sci-fi more than its horror aspect; that's why I mentioned if you like science fiction. The story's really great, and presented very well. The Ishimura is one of the greatest game settings in my opinion.

When it comes to Dead Space 2, that game is faster than the first game when it comes to maneuverability, and your telekinesis is more powerful. This time, as I'm sure you're aware of, Isaac has a voice, but to me, it makes him a really great character; Gunner Wright did a fantastic job voicing him, though he does swear a little more often than you may like. Almost after every sentence, he says "fuck/shit/damn/" It's hardly a problem though. Just don't make him repeatedly stop when you're around dead bodies, 'cause then he'll keep going "Fucking... Die." and stuff like that. It still sounds good, but it's excessive.

The game is far less scary than the original, and hands over some of that horror for more action, but I don't believe it's any less great. The Sprawl is a nice game setting to visit, just as much, or nearly as much as the Ishimura. The characters are all interesting, and you'll become attached to them quickly. There are a few surprises along the way in each game, and I hope you haven't read or listened to all of it so it spoils some of that. Both of them have great replay value, though I believe ironically the second more than the first. I've spanned my time playing the first Dead Space almost all the way up to the second, but I've only beaten it about seven times, while when it comes to DS2, I've already beaten it over ten, and I haven't played it in a while.

Funny thing is that both games are of the same length. I think Dead Space 3 is going to be another fantastic game, as long as whatever it's doing, is done correctly, and for the most part, I see that it is. I'm not one that'll have huge complaints over this, and I've been defending the game a bit elsewhere. After this kinect support stuff, there have been a lot of people saying "Well Dead Space 3 is destined to fail." Or something along those lines. It's mostly... Oops, I'll be back later to finish this. Gotta go.

This trailer didn't show any isaac-on-armed-human violence. That was troubling at E3, even moreso than the co-op alone. I want nothing to do with cover shooting at dudes in this kind of game.

*but I should say that this trailer looked good, got me excited for this game that frankly I forgot existed. Reminded me how much I loved the first two.

This may not be what is happening but a co-op horror game where one player sees things the other player doesn't could be pretty spectacular. imagine walking down a corridor with your partner and all of a sudden he starts shooting you turn around and see nothing. He's all yelling at you because you aren't shooting at the swarm of enemies and you are all hey there's nothing there. he sees enemies between you and him and thinks he is trying to save you but instead shoots through the enemy and hits you.

This is basically what I was thinking while watching this trailer. I'm excited to see what the coop portion of this game is like now. It would be really cool if it is like what you described and the players actually have trouble trusting each other because they can't tell what is real and what is illusion.

Yeah, nah. Pass.

They turned was was a legitimately amazing game series into a michael bay style action cover shooting with explosions every half second. DS2 was more action based than DS1 but it was still a downright creepy game and they're throwing that all away with bullshit co-op, building your own ~SICK GUNZ~, universal ammo and absolutely nothing interesting from the previous 2 games.

Take the trailer for example. They showed about 10% from the real SP experience and then dedicated the entire rest of it to YOU AND YOUR BROS WOO EXPLOSIONS FUCK YEAH SPACE AMERICA BWAAAAAANG.

Fuck off. Thanks for killing another franchise EA.
