I'm not asking for anyone to delude themselves. I just don't think harping on the relative unpopularity of any of the sites is going to encourage them to make the segments any better. Of course there's realistically the more important sites and the less important ones, but using that to try and marginalize certain sites is sort of crass.

For the record I agree that the Happy Hour segments are not being filled well every week and could do with a re-think. I'm just addressing the notion that Giant Bomb should be treated as the main attraction, even if they are.

Using the viewing stats for the Happy Hour from the sites is a terrible way to judge how popular they are.  A lot of people who visit one WM site visit others, too, but they aren't going to open the stream for every site they visit.  Screened and Tested are pretty awesome, Comicvine does an okay job, and Giantbomb has a legacy of making absolute crap really interesting.

Members,

As you know, being a Whiskey Media member has it's perks. As you may not know, we're in the process of making the Whiskey Media Store more of a permanent thing. That means new cool shit to buy - but also, more of it. Today we're opening up the new store to members and non-members alike, but you guys are getting first crack at it. You'll have a chance to get your hands on the once available but quickly sold out Giant Bomb Throwback tee, as well as our newest addition to the Whiskey Media gear line, the Tested Blockhead tee. With this member's only discount code and store access code you'll get $5.00 off your purchase. But get in there quick, as we'll be letting the non-subscribers watching our free end of the month Happy Hour know shortly after the show begins that the store is open to everybody. Thank you for your support of Whiskey Media. You keep our lights on, and we appreciate you for it.

Your buddy,

Dan

from your actual Email account not through a PM, have you turned off notifications or something? might be why you don't receive emails from GB, in which case you shouldn't complain about not being in the know.

So in other words you would never be interested in any Screened or Comic Vine segment.    What exactly do you want them to do? Give the entire show to Giant Bomb because it happens to have the most fans? "
I might be, but they are presented so badly that I don't think a discussion format works, so don't watch live and skip through now. I've only done this recently, after enduring the live show up-to-date.  I'd think a good compromise would be to reduce the segment times for Screened, Comic Vine and Tested considerably (no more than 5 mins each max) and leave the rest for the games fans.  "
I almost always like the Screened segments even though I'm not interested in every single film that comes out. I even like the Comic Vine segments from time to time, and I don't give a shit about comic books. It's a fine format.

that's a bit of a dick thing to say man.

Enjoy GB, but don't shit on the other sites just because you don't like them, they're alright, they cater for their audience which is growing, if you remember back when this site was a year old how many people regularly checked it out, they had a lot of help because Jeff and Ryan were known names, and had a lot pull, Comic Vine is the webs biggest site for Comics, Tested is growing and now a year old, Screened is starting to grow, Anime Vice caters to it's audience and it is quite large for what they do Tom Pinchuk is doing what he can, until Whiskey hires new personalties to run the site, Whiskey is going to expand with two new sites this year.

Don't be such a downer man.

Pretty much. But honestly, if you didn't shoehorn the rest of it in with Giant Bomb bits, almost no one (not to be an asshole or anything, just being blunt, here) would give a damn. "

Have a read of this, "
Did read that, but honestly, it doesn't change anything I said. The "for better or worse" excuse doesn't really cut it if the answer is "it's for worse." GB bits, for whatever the reason, are the only thing that make most of it worthwhile. To get people to tune in, you have to basically tack on everyone else to Giant Bomb. It's kind of cruel to say, especially since I love Will Smith and don't mind Screened, but GB is practically what carries these live shows (if not WM as a whole). It doesn't really make it any better.

I think the idea of a live show as a membership perk is a cool one, but they still need to actually figure out what to do during these live shows if they're not going to scrap them and redirect the time and energy into other things. Hearing people talk about movies or watch trailers isn't anything special and making an actual segment out of that on something you would usually have to pay for is kind of bizarre. (You could also say the same thing about GB playing video games, but the experience of them playing games is fundamentally different with each game.)

I guess that was just a really long way of saying that if they're going to keep spending hours preparing and doing these live shows instead of other things, they need to actually put thought into what the hell they're doing in them.

(And personally, IMO, the biggest problem with these live shows is that they basically just try to make them small 20 minute microcosms of the sites that make up Whiskey Media. It almost feels like a clip show. You could basically take a Quick Look, a chunk of the Screened podcast, any random clip of Will Smith just talking, and add shots of them drinking, and you have a perfect replica of the Happy Hour.)

People wanted merch, This is also a way to let non members know that they can buy T-shirts which a lot of people have asked for, you got an email saying it was available as did I, but non members didn't.  Also, before the Big live show happened there were  requests for cross site stuff, this is the way they cater to that, think of it as a Whiskey show (Which it is) not a Giant Bomb show, so what you don't like some of the other sites others do, and as the sites grow and get their personalities formed then they'll get into a good stride, I think it's going all right so far,  "
I got no email. How many requests? Enough to keep this thing going? Why should I wait for a site to get its personality formed? (Or more likely fail!) This stuff has been going nowhere for a while, especially when the GB crew are away.

" GiantBomb bits were great. The rest was rubbish - once again. "
Of course the GB segments will be better, because they already do content daily that fits the live show. All they have to do is a short-form Quick Look. Whereas Tested couldn't really make an interesting segment out of some new smartphone, and they can't show iPhone games because Giant Bomb already plays games in their segment, so they have to resort to showing crappy kitchen implements and TV dinners. And they do a fine job of that for what it is. "
Look at the viewer stats during the show: Practically no-one else watches the other streams. I'm not interested in comics, I'm not interested in films or their critics and hate the puerile Tested embarrassments. If only Anime-Vice had a slot!   Honestly, the Tested sections are poor, since Will is not a good presenter. Plenty of other shows make technology look interesting to watch, so they really have no excuse, apart from themselves.  I remember watching on-the Spot with Geoff and Ryan on Gamespot. Those shows (with Rich Gallup and Alex) were so awesome. Why can't they do something like that again? A live hour full of different games and competitions, featuring the viewers? I'd be right up for that!  Also I thought this site had no ads for members. What's with all the t-shirt ads?   "

also remember this is ripped straight from the Stream, so they were getting ready whilst keeping the stream going, same thing happened for the live bombcasts, except you got a grey screen instead.

Pretty much. But honestly, if you didn't shoehorn the rest of it in with Giant Bomb bits, almost no one (not to be an asshole or anything, just being blunt, here) would give a damn. "

 Have a read of this,

I also thought that The Wondercon and film section with Bryan, John and Tom was interesting,
