Netcode is a bother for many programmers. It's not easy doing low latency netcode, so many indie games will forgo that and only do single player and local co-op. That's what "they" are thinking. As a developer, I understand this.

But as a player, I always want online multiplayer. Any programmer worth his salt can at least learn the basics and as long as it's not horribly broken, it should increase sales.

Is that what you call greatness? looks like a browser game, in fact there are browser games that look better

And yeah, no online is definitely a bummer. You can say that this is the kind of game that's most fun and best played on a couch in person next to a couple buddies or whatever, but if you're also telling me that's the only time I'll be able to play it, then I'm just gonna tell you right back that it's pretty much never gonna get played then.

I'll still buy it, and I hope they'll update it with online later, but yeah, kind of a bummer.

There is no single player campaign, just a bot match mode called survival.

Managed to get it from one of the Steam codes Max gave away, even though I'm still planning on buying it to give them money.

Game seems like a lot of fun. Look forward to playing it with my brother when we are both at our parents' house during Christmas time.

As much as I'd love to play this the amount of times I will be in a room with 4 other people wanting to play Samurai Gunn is pretty close to zero. If I was in high school or college still then I would buy this in a heartbeat.

Because all video games that play in a web browser (or "look like" they should) are immediately awful, or are disqualified from greatness?

This game looks like it will be great 4 player fun. Great to see local multiplayer coming back despite most modern commercial games omitting it.

Got any recommendations for good 2-4 player HTML5 games? My favorite 2 player browser game is wrestle jump... so simple but so much fun.

I need to play more with people, but so far it seems like a simplified Towerfall. Not sure if that's good or bad.

The online multiplayer is a fair argument, but I kind of can't believe there are people grousing about the price and graphics...

Bought this earlier and had a blast with it, awesome control and GREAT party game.

Played this at PAX. Reasonably fun, but as others have said, the chances of getting a group together in the same room to play this is next to nothing. And yeah, TowerFall with less options seems an apt description as well. I'll pass.

I have a feeling all the people complaining about the lack of online multiplayer in this game, are missing the point.

@gel: Aye. Netcode for a twitch game is brutal, brutal stuff in terms of the damage it can do to the gameplay. I've written game code for almost a decade and it's still the last thing I look forward to doing.

I'm guessing these guys want a slice of the Towerfall pie, though tbh I'm not holding my breath: That kill effect looks unbelievably irritating.

I didn't realise saying something looks like a browser game was considered an insult, considering many classic indie games came from being those. Heck, one of the most beautiful and emotionally powerful ones is But That Was Yesterday that looks like this:

I love the look of Samurai Gunn, so rather than saying "looks like a browser game" as an insult, just put it down to preference that you don't like the art.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that some games get designed for pretty much two situations, and those situations only:

1: Games journalists who are all actually working in the same office (like Giant Bomb)

2: College students who all still live together.

I'm old, with a job, a wife, and a night shift. Getting 3 buddies over to play a game is never, ever, ever going to happen.

Fuck online play. I'm gonna jack some Xbox controllers into my PC and get waste with some friends over the holidays and it's going to be great. And yes, I'm an old-ass person with a full-time job.

OK, I know it looks cool in trailers for the motion to stop briefly when somebody takes a hit, but I guarantee that only the hitter and the hittee will see that stop coming. The other 2 players (assuming 4 players) will not, and will be totally thrown off by the brief stoppage of time.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii did this as well, where any time a player took damage, the action stopped briefly, and it led to all sorts of chain reactions where a person taking damage led to someone else fucking up their jump arc since time stopped briefly in the middle of the jump, and now two pauses have happened and that fucked up another person's fireball dodge timing.

Same here. My closets friends live like 30-40 minutes from me. Not sure why the dev is pretending the internet doesn't exist.

I hope they rectify this if there ever is a PS3 version. I'm not sure why this only announced for Sony systems where it's guaranteed to sell the least either because of miniscule install base or the system being a flop.

It looks like they mashed the insanity of Hotline Miami with Super Smash brothers and set it in a Samurai setting.
