impressive stuff. they're definitely doing a lot with a little in the visual department

the visuals are almost like a really nice looking Flotilla

I am incredibly excited for this game.

Make my space docking fantasies come true!

I just hope all these upcoming space sims will turn out to be quality products.

"Enemy Starfighter is an upcoming space combat game with randomly generated campaigns, permadeath and a persistent fleet."

[breathes heavily]

omg i need this so bad

At least one of the upcoming space sims has to be good, and this looks it could be one of the good ones.

Yup, it's been way too long. Other than the occasional X game and some indies like the Evochron/Arvoch series, I think the last big one was Freelancer, and that was 11 years ago, and Freespace 2 and Wing Commander: Prophecy were released 15 years ago. I'm so fucking happy to finally see the genre return, with so many promising titles in the near future.

So, it's like if Homeworld was a flight game instead of a strategy game? -And had infinite randomized campaigns? -And looked totally crazy?

...I am excited about all of these things!

This looks so much like Homeworld right down to the shading and FX.

Posted by Rasgueado

I can't shake it but... this style is SOOOOO reminiscent of Homeworld. I don't mean that as a pejorative, that's just what the look reminds me of. From the map, starfield backgrounds, and ship design. I'm excited that space is coming back!

Might finally be time to invest in a flight-stick.

Posted by John1912

Sounds interesting, but the trailer and graphics did nothing for me.

Posted by Dick_Mohawk

hhhmmm, looks very interesting. I hope we get a decent amount of coverage from PAX as I want to see more.

Posted by Turambar

The graphical style makes this look like a mod for the original Homeworld.

I NEED THIS GAME IN MY VEINS!!!!!!!!!

Its been so long since I've gotten to play a space combat sim.

The dream of a Homeworld 3 may live on, but at least we can get some sparks of it here and there in other releases.

This game makes me want to see more of the new game, "Flagship".

Yeah.

I don't understand the hype. Tons of games like this in development right now, it seems like.

Posted by Sweetz

Some day, one of these space fighter resurgence games might actually come out...

I'm a bit apprehensive about so many space sims/shooters coming out after all this time within such a small year or two window. Especially when flight games tend to have such poor support for flight sticks and HOTAS and good quality flight controls, themselves, are so few and far between.

I was going to get into flight games a couple years ago, so I dusted off my X52 and sat down to see what was out there. The only games with any real reputation for not being shit were years old and getting the controls to work reasonably with them was fucking ridiculous.

Elite: Dangerous has excellent support already. Star Citizen is slowly getting there in its alpha state.

This, plus Rogue System and Limit Theory will also have support. No doubt the PC version of No Man's Sky will also have it now that they are attracting a lot of attention.

Even if they don't do it well on release, there will be enough enthusiasm for flight controls with all of these new titles that they will try to make it work.

Posted by RollingZeppelin

People seem to be excited for this, I didn't get much from the trailer though, just looks like another space combat game with except with bad graphics. Is it the just the rogue-like concepts that people are excited about?

Edited by FinsterDexter

Has there been any word about whether this will have co-op? Because that would be amazing.

Posted by Rowr

I think the music was 90 percent of this trailer.

Posted by phatcat

So, you are flying a black and red fighter, and fighting blue and white ships.

Are you literally the Enemy Starfighter?

Posted by Crash_Happy

It suffers in comparison to Star Citizen, Elite and No Man's Sky.

Posted by DrKunze

Still the best "leaving warp" sound. I wish to be prooven wrong.

Space games are BACK! YES!

Posted by PenguinDust

Remember when there were none of these space combat games being made and Vinny was complaining about wanting a new Freespace game? Now they seem to be popping up all over the place. I wonder if it was a bandwagon thing or just an unusual coincidence.

@pancakehumper: That poster is straight out of the 70's. Very cool.

I love how the spacesim genre is getting a renaissance, that may even lead to a Tie-Fighter remake.... Anyways, the look of this game just doesn't hold up to the standard I've seen so far from the other upcoming games of the same genre (Star Citizen, Elite etc.). I'm having a hard time getting excited for this one.

Persistent fleet, and you play as a fighter. So every mission is an escort mission? FUCK THAT.

I do not really get the Star Fox graphics, but the more space sims the merrier. I thought for a while that the genre would die out.

Posted by ModernAlkemie

Welp, looks like it's time to invest in a H.O.T.A.S.

We're going to space duders!

Looks like my impulse buy of a DK2 the other week might be paying off!

Yep. You are on the side of the evil, fanatic, bad guys. Your ship even shoots down the good guy's escape capsules with it's point defense turret!

Persistent fleet, and you play as a fighter. So every mission is an escort mission? FUCK THAT.

Nah, the other ships in your fleet follow you around and you are not obligated to protect them. It's an escort mission for the ai!

For real though, the design seems to revolve around individual ships in your fleet being semi-disposable with completed objectives restocking your supply. The persistent fleet does matter because you need to build up by attacking small targets before taking on large ones, beyond that ships on your side look pretty survivable. Space, yo.

Posted by mekon

Yeah.

This has been one of my phone's lock screens for a while, there'll be no excuse to forget about buying it that way. I saw some discussion about it in the press late last year, but it's been quiet (AFAIK) so this is great news.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.. just save up for it. Keep the star wars stuff.

Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada.

Edited by MonkeyKing1969

Good to see this genre is back. I think a lot of big companies who passed on making a space combat game in the past three years will be kicking themselves when the "hot" time to ride the wave is over. A few big games are out there, but the indies will clean up in this space...(that was a pun).
