Was this the first ever positive Tang?

Posted by SubwayD

Man. I'll have to watch these films again. I've always thought of Wargames as the boring clunker and Tron being the more exciting film. Heck, I even thought that when I re-watched them a few years back.

Also, I can't believe no mention was made of the classic line: "You pig-eyed sack of shit!"

Whatever next week's movie is it makes me want to vomit.

Turn your key sir!

Simply stated, without going into too much detail or hyperbole.

Wargames is the main reason I have loved and played video games since watching it.

What the hell is wrong with Rorie?
Too much Ryan everywhere would be depressing.

Great TANG!   What was that movie for next week? That was a god awful scene at the end for next weeks.

Rory is great. You shut your mouth.

Wargames.  Great movie.  It's the little things through the film that give it charm, too like when Broderick's mom invites his "little friend" to stay for dinner, when he's using a soda can tab to bypass the coinbox to make a call, and when he is still sipping on his Big Gulp as the terror that the FBI is watching him creeps up at the convenience store.

WarGames the game was also rather fun, although I was 9 when I played it.

" Can't wait until we get up to the late nineties for Ryan's take on eXistenZ. That one should be a good watch!  "

I hope, I'm not hurting Ryan Davis' feelings (I would guess, he is not known for being a delicate flower?), by saying, there is nothing genuine 'interesting' about his 'movie tanging'. I could not wrap around my head for a long time, why I don't particularly like them very much.

He spoils all the plot so there is no room left for anyone who might be interested to watch them for the first time? Most movies are either awesome or dumb, depending on each one of our educational and cultural background, our past and recent preferences and the current memes, we like to jump upon?

Also having all the 'moments' showing off in the videos kills the movie for potential new viewers? (your mileage may vary from TANG to TANG). But on the other hand, what else should they do? That is also part of the fun, right?

We, who know these movies, do not get anything 'new' out of his approach, IMHO, because, he is explaining the movie - not making any new or broader or interesting cultural or theoretical comments. It's judgmental in a very (de)finitive sense? It's reviewish in a Gamespotty sense. He is applying a "video game style review" to a movie.(?)

Movies like eXistenZ have had their treatment by very nerdy film theory cinephiles, who also know their craft (film history, art history, literature, etc...) - sadly nothing Ryan wants to go into at all in these 5 min bits.

On the other hand, hey - it's fun for what it is, I guess? Reminds me to watch the movie again - or often rather not.  (I know I will get burned for my comments. But that's, what I think.)

Ryan, I thought you were going to roll over this movie with hate but your feelings about Wargames actually mirror my own. Good call.

Is the "Wonderful Universe of This Ain't No Game" going to be followed up by the harder edge, yet less culturally relevant  "Only Nerds Yammer Xenophobically"

Oh dear lord I've been racking my brain for days trying to remember what that movie was called.  I wasn't sure if I actually watched that awful movie on cable or if it was just a terrible nightmare.  I suppose it's both.  Thanks for reminding me dude.  WUTANG's only going to get better.

Huh, it's weird to see a positive review in anything TANG related.

That blonde girl is Veronica Mars's mom!

This movie is the reason I have the hobbies and career that I do.  this movie was a major formative power.

@SuperJoe: Really! She's also Joey's 'Fruit Basket' girlfriend from FRIENDS season 1.

Wu-Tang loves boobs
I loved this movie, maybe I'll see it again sometime

Edited by Roger778

I was beginning to think that the point of TANG was to ridicule every movie that was either based off of a video game, or movies that had games in them.  Take last week's Tron for example, an old cult favorite of mine.  Ryan absolutely hated it.

I guess I was wrong about my assumption, because I was definitely not expecting to see a positive review of Wargames, which pleasantly surprised me.  I might have to see this movie again someday.

Then how come someone who's job it is to review video games does a much better job reviewing movies than him?

LOL tough guy talk? Then a treat, nice. Anyway, information works both ways. You can find info on many people pretty easy, you included. So please you aren't /b/ and don't act like a jerk.

Needs more TANG.
Also, one of my favorite movies of all time.

WarGames is such an excellent film despite Matthew Broderick's not so great acting. It's a classic. I love the Cold War overtones. Great episode: Totally agree with Ryan's review.
Posted by Sarumarine

Learn damn it! I love the ending montage of WarGames. But yeah, that movie is heavy Cold War. But if you're dealing with nukes in the eighties that's pretty unavoidable.

They both do fine jobs reviewing the mediums they select to review, and are both equally entertaining and funny while doing it. It would be a national tragedy if Rorie got replaced.
