These ideas seem obvious but I've never seen them done in a 3D space. Looks really neat!

Seems interesting, I like the art design of the environments and the idea seems solid. It looks a bit unnecessarily gimmicky, though; I don't see why it couldn't be more of a traditional co-op experience.

It's nice to see that they finally unveiled P13! I like what we've got here, and knowing that Josef Fares (Swedish director) is behind it, that makes me even more confident in it.

Add in the name "Starbreeze"...who literally doesn't know how to make a bad game (Enclave, Riddick, Darkness, Syndicate...and soon Payday 2)...

I just know that Starbreeze can pull some emotional heartstrings, and given the familial ties of this one, I just don't know if I can handle tragedy in this game. Nonetheless, I'm fucking excited about it.

If I had to take a wild guess, there will be some level of tragedy that occurs in the game. Forcing sole control of the characters onto one player creates a stronger emotional tie than putting that onto two separate players within any given session.

I really hope it works out. I will be buying it for sure. We need more creative ideas in games.

Play it co-op by having you hold one half of the controller and someone else holds the other half.

Shame they couldn't be bothered to show how it will work on PC. Is this local co-op only as well or will it have online? Would like to give it a go with a friend online.

What he said. This is an ooooold idea. Nothing wrong with it. It's nice to see someone with Starbreeze's pedigree taking a crack at it. Looks like they're using it in some really interesting ways here.

Josef Fares huh? Unless I'm misremembering, or somehow confusing him with his brother Fares Fares, I recall him ticking me off a few years ago talking about that he wanted games to be shorter and that he thought the ideal length of a game was around three hours. Back then 20 hours were closer to the norm so I naturally thought he was completely crazy.

It's funny how things have changed. I've grown older and I find myself a lot more understanding of his mindset these days.

I'm not super sold on the idea or the style this game has, but I'll try to remain catiously optimistic for now.

I don't know about that, but Josef did say this in a CVG interview:

"We could have easily made this a ten hour game by recycling gameplay, but we haven't. We want to keep the player curious all the time. When you play Brothers, you'll have no idea what's coming next, and I guarantee you'll never guess what's going to happen at the end."

"Replayability is overrated. Even with a great game like Half-Life 2, most will only play through it once. For me, everything is about the experience. It's not about the length, and Brothers is as long as it's supposed to be. No one ever questions a film about whether it's an hour or two hours long. You ask whether it's good or bad. Many games these days outstay their welcome."

@assinass: I agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly. While I'm not advocating 4 hour games, I do think a lot of modern games tend to outstay their welcome with filler material or one shooting gallery too many.

@assinass: Yeah I think he's right. Well in regards to replayability it certainly benefits certain types of games a lot more than it does others, but for experience focused game I don't mind if there is little of it.

Something I think has gotten a lot better as games have gotten shorter is the density of them. Not for all games of course but Metal Gear Rising is a great recent example. It may only be a few hours, but that game also has basically no filler in terms of gameplay. Meanwhile past gen games like Wind Waker infamously set you on a time and rupee consuming fetchquest for the Triforce, and Metroid Prime had you backtracking for keys before the final boss.

Games should be long or short depending on what they offer, what they set out to do. Whether that is hours of grinding and dungeoncrawling, competitive gameplay that's infinitely replayable, or focused, one time experiences. There's room for all of that, I think.
