Someone's made an incredible Metroid mod for Spelunky, Lemma's giving me Mirror's Edge vibes, and a reminder that Where Is My Heart? has arrived on PC.

I'm amused that Patrick never thought to just use the shortcuts in Spelunky to see the other areas in the Metroid mod.

These mods never seem to work for me.

Now my computer is freaking out (windows 8). I've spent the last three hours jumping through every hoop and reading every post I can find.

Spelunky won't start anymore.

This is the last non-official mod I ever try.

Steam Workshop only from now on.

Update: And now my browser is running like shit and starts at Yahoo every time. Even after I changed my settings and deleted Yahoo from the "home page" options list. I new better, but the Metroid pull was too strong. Nothing's ever "free". I would've rather paid for this and avoided all the phucking hassle.

Update:Problems are still there. Will address those later. But I got the mod to work! Dragging the files into the "Data" file in the "Spelunky" file was insufficient. If Windows 8, download Winzip, then choose "Open With" Winzip and then "Unzip to" the "Data" file in the "Spelunky" file directly. Again, dragging wasn't cutting it.

Update: Oh, shit! Just read the post below. I hadn't watched the video till the end.

Happy Birthday, Ryan. Miss you, bro.

A fitting tribute at the end.

Still feel the hole around here, every day.

Happy Birthday Ryan.

Metorid Prime 3 was not a great game. It was a small, cramped, rushed shooter whose best addition to the series was fantastic controls. It totally lacked that feeling of exploration and loneliness that all Metroid games have and its worst crime is maybe that it was easy as fuck. Both Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were so incredibly atmospheric and memorable, but the only thing I remember about Prime 3 is cheesing my way through every single encounter with the Phazon power-up because it was so poorly balanced.

I know you'll hate it because it's a shooter, but Titanfall has crazy fun movement that's very much like this. Wallruns, walljumps, climbing, ziplines, double jumps, etc. It's really fun to just run around the maps looking for new routes or trying to beat each others times on lines you make up.

Yeah, the movement was probably the thing I liked the most about Titanfall. They didn't go far enough with the weapon designs to really make the shooting interesting in the longer run, but jumping around and climbing all over the place was great, especially since so many didn't seem to use those mechanics and seemed entirely unaware of all the places you could get to and shoot them from.

I'm worried that Patrick's been freebasing the Speedtroid.

Also, thanks for the notice about WIMH. It totally slipped my mind that I intended to buy that game after seeing the quick look, because it came around after I built my PC and had practically stopped using my PS3.

@beachthunder: Agreed, I actually hoped the Samus in this mod would have been the same character style as existing spelunky. Like a little Samus with a huge head!

I want a 2d metroid announcement more than I want a PS4 or Xbone.

The character in the second game appeared to be wearing flip-flops but I heard neither flipping nor flopping.

Yesss, Spelunkroid!

I know this is considered the final version of the Metroid mod, but it would be lovely if they changed absolutely every sprite and tile.

Also, a new Metroid would be great - but only if it's 2D. It's been far too long since Metroid Fusion.
