That @patrickklepek sure cranks out content! Though that feels like a reductive word, I like his videos and writeups and enthusiasm. Keep at it, Scoops!

the only thing making this person angry is the fact you have not finished watching that series... it is probably one of the best anime endings too.

Wow, finally a Worth Playing that had a game I felt is worth playing. Been a while. (Well last week's Alzheimer game looked interesting, too.) Anyways, gonna go and buy The Fall now.

And yes, do finish watching Cowboy Bebop, Patrick. It's well worth the time.

Most of Cowboy Bebop is filler junk. There's maybe 6 or 7 good episodes. The last few episodes are definitely the best ones.

The Fall is a tad on the short side and some of the puzzle logic can be unfortunately obtuse, but it's worth the (low) price of admission. Stellar visuals, surprisingly satisfying combat, excellent acting, and a well told and unique story.

It's just a shame that it got buried in steam. I don't know when it came out, but the only reason I found it is because I dug several layers deep into the "Under $5" category. I don't recall ever having seen this featured in any way on steam. Hopefully they can garner enough attention and sales to justify a sequel. While the ending in and of itself could have just been what is was and still felt complete, it tucked in a good ol' "To Be Continued" so obviously they plan for more.

Hah. My immediate thoughts were "this has serious Limbo and The Swapper" vibes. Different mechanics, obviously, but the atmosphere is similar to both. Looks great.

Also yeah, Cowboy Bebop is just high-brow tentacle porn.

It's great. Memorable music and animation, endearing cast of characters who (generally) don't adhere strongly to tired archetypal tropes, creative scenarios in an episodic format, nice mix of action/comedy/drama... It's not gonna be utterly transcendent like Miyazaki when he's at his best, but in my experience it has a proven mass appeal.

Joss Whedon lists it as an influence for Firefly. I know some people despise Firefly and Joss Whedon, so if that's you please look beyond that. It's pretty different at the end of the day.

Patrick as the new anime editor i am disappointed with your lack of understanding

Cowboy bebop transcends the "genre" of anime guys, guys anime isnt a genre, its Japanese wizards making drawings that move, guys i know asian stuff is all suuuper weird but lets not relegate all the stuff they make to a genre, this is serious, its not like its alllll about little girls in school and super saiyans, oh.....

if you like cowboy bebop it means you can stomach 2d animation (from a different culture) which means you are cool with good anime, its not that complicated, 90% of any medium is crap/rote, anime is no different. wah wah stop misunderstanding anime you bullies its art.

Yeah. Saying anime is a genre is the same as saying cartoons are a genre, or comics are a genre. There's a dramatic difference between Batman: The Animated Series and Looney Toons. Between Secret of NIMH and Ferngully. Between Maus and Family Circus.

And given the word "anime" really just means "animated", as in "animated film", to differentiate them from cartoons is silly. Even foreign films still get categorized in their actual genres, not just the fact that they're foreign.

I just rewatched the whole of Cowboy Bebop on Blu Ray recently, really clean and beautiful. I hadn't seen the whole show in quite some time and it's still not only one of the best anime shows I have ever seen, but one of the best TV shows in general. Such an incredible world they created, with backstories for all the main characters that are fleshed out just enough to have them interesting, but stay mysterious.

The Blu Rays aren't out in the US if I remember correctly, but the first set, not the second is region free apparently.

People who talk about 'trancending the genre' or medium for that matter should have to fight China MiƩville for the right to talk such utter balls.

(Then again people who bang on about the books in skyrim and in game notes in general should be made to give away any and all copies of Watchmen they own)

@mooseymcman: One of the least tropey anime things I've seen. Which is still very tropey. You won't get fooled into thinking you're not watching anime or anything. It's tolerable though, as long as you don't come into it expecting anything more than a decent cartoon.
