Worth Playing: 10/11/2013

Nailed it. It's interesting to see the different responses to this type of humor. It's definitely not for everyone- some find it to be trite and others think it's genius. I can appreciate that discussion. I can't appreciate the outright dismissals calling it 'hipster garbage'- but hey, this is still the internet.

I think it's a good idea, sadly it isn't much fun to play, it is trying to be funny and clever like Portal, it just doesn't pull it off. That isn't to say they shouldn't have ever made the game, I commend them for trying and it is an interesting idea that could turn into a genre, I just don't think they pulled it off that well.

This...which bothers me, since I love Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy :/

I had a stupid smile no my face the whole time playing The Stanley Parable. That and it's one of those things that's so goddamn clever it makes you feel like a stupid-ass for not thinking of it yourself.

I'm super curious what other people think when it comes out but I'm pretty confident I'll be getting this at some point.

Hmm...didn't expect such strong reactions to the contrary but I guess there's no accounting for taste ;). Watching Patrick play it immediately after, there are a one or two bits or lines that linger a smidge but in the moment it's less noticeable. Whatever, I thought it was dope and I bet a ton of people in editorial will think so too.

So that Procrastination Agent game is based on another indie game jam one, right? The one where you're stranded on another planet and have to keep your crew happy while working on a radio?

That eight game is some super hot shit.

I actually laughed out loud at at least 4 or 5 of the jokes. People find different things fun/funny. I for one find family guy extremely unfunny. I find Noel Felding hilarious.

Mundane developer here! I think it's a fair opinion to have, especially at this stage of the game's production. The game is far from finished, hopefully the full version will interest you more.

I liked the demo for the Stanley Parable, but it was a fairly middling amount of "like". If you don't sit around at the countdown waiting room and continually pressing the 8 button, I could see how you wouldn't like it because those are where most of the best lines are. Even then, it wasn't like the cleverest thing I've ever played or anything. I think you guys are gushing a little much, based more on how good you think the full game will be instead of what the demo actually contains. So like, heads up, you guys are kinda overhyping the demo, especially for people who aren't already deeply in love with the idea of the Stanley Parable. Anyway, I look forward to the full game.

Also, subtitles kinda kill comedic delivery because you can just read ahead, and the game was very easy to hear, Patrick. You didn't need to turn subtitles on. Also, stop trying to constantly explain what you think the joke is; whether you're right or not, nobody likes a joke explainer.

Mundane did not seem like a very good game. Sorry, developer, if you're reading these comments! Maybe Patrick played it poorly, but seriously, zero interest whatsoever.

Also, The Exam just seems like reverse Gods Will Be Watching (though I'm aware the framework of that game did not originate with Gods Will Be Watching). You're just trying to keep bad things "alive" instead of keeping crewmembers alive.

Hmm? Of course it did. Unless I'm missing something (quite likely), I was just goofily throwing out there a fairly obscure meme that that dude's comment (pre-editing) made me think of. I'm hugely interested in The Stanley Parable.

I played the demo this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It didn't seem like it was trying too hard or anything, in my opinion (whatever that counts for)

I'm definitely buying it on Steam when it comes out.

The Stanley Parable demo felt like it was trying a tad bit too hard. The original stanley parable was understated and didn't hit you in the face with the overwhelming feeling that the creator was trying to be very funny.

This is what happens when someone finds unexpected success - they feel that they have to "top" their first creation, they get nervous and they try to be "funny" when in fact they were funniest when they weren't trying too hard. You see this when someone who is funny in life decides to, for the first time, try to get up on stage and perform a comedy routine - they become nervous and force it too much and end up looking terrible.

I would say to everyone who didn't like the Stanley Parable demo - go and play the original stanley parable, which is free as long as you have a copy of Half Life 2 (and who wouldn't at this stage?).

The Stanley Parable demo reminded me of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when the book would explain portions of the story, or go off on a tangent. This is a good thing.

The Stanley Parable's narration sounds great. It is done in the same style as the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio serious that was done by the BBC. If you have never heard it you should find it. It is very funny.

Yeah, not very funny. The wall joke was the funniest thing of the whole thing. I get the commentary and stuff but it's just dumb observational humor. Good job, you pointed out something in a British voice!

@patrickklepek, that last 'famous demo' is Kentucky Route Zero.

I wish there were some links and more info on how to pick up some of these games.

I thought the Stanley Parable demo had some really awesome commentary.

I loved the original Stanley Parable, and that demo was so much better than I could've hoped.

Where can I find NullDivide+? Google is failing me.

Also, I guess I've been living under a rock, because this is the first I've heard of The Stanley Parable. I paused the video to play the demo myself and I'm completely hooked for the full release.

Not sure how anyone could find it unfunny, but I guess humor works differently for different people.

The Stanley Parable demo was a waste of 30 minutes i'll never get back. That crap was tedious as fuck... not even a tiny bit funny or clever.

The music in the first game was fantastic. Great job as always Patrick

Made sure not to watch this before playing The Stanley Parable demo. It's pretty well done.
