WWE '13 Brings Exploding Rings, Louder Crowds, and Good Ol' JR

I had missed having Jim Ross scream "BAH GAWD! BAH GAWD! BAH GAWD!" after every other move. Welcome back, old friend.

Looks so much more polished than WWE 12 and man, it looks fun. The commentary doesn't sound completely random and dull this time around and I'm glad it's not always going to be Cole and Jerry and they are going to bring back JR for commentary this year. I really like how the presentation is looking and I like that the replays are going to happen in the middle of matches (although I hope you'll be able to skip them or turn them off). I also really like how the crowd is going to be a bit more dynamic and is going to cheer at appropriate times rather than just randomly cheer. I just wish they would have it so that if the match was boring, you could see fans leave but I really can't complain.

Overall, I'm excited. It looks like it is going to be a way more polished version of WWE 12 with attitude era wrestlers. Hopefully that's what it's going to be.

And people complaining about the "Oh My God" chants, did you REALLY think they were going to actually have "Holy Shit" in a game that's based off of a PG product?

@Paul_Is_Drunk: Well, he doesn't wrestle much anymore. Now he is just Mick Foley and he comes back usually for kind of for more entertaining roles rather than wrestling but, yeah, he doesn't wrestle as much

There's something weird about the animations here. Everyone moves too quickly, like cartoon-like.

I hope the crowd doesn't chant "WHAT?" like it's 1998.

Looks just as bad as every other iteration since Here Comes the Pain. You know your priorities are quite out of order when you have to hype audio effects, which should have been in the series from day 1, as your big new feature. Animation transitions look choppy and unnatural, graphics are poor for a game released in 2012, barely any game play improvements or changes for that matter. Wrestling games have so much potential for online capabilities yet these games are nearly devoid of them. They need to resort to nostalgia in order to mask the fact that the single-player portions of these games are garbage.

I continue to wait for the day when someone else gets a shot at making a WWE game.

It's not "realistic" enough. If they wanted it to be 100% accurate to the product the WWE is kicking out these days, Michael Cole would be an insufferable ass you couldn't turn off (in fact, muting the commentary would just make him louder and more obnoxious somehow), and they'd constantly be shoving Twitter and Tout in your fucking face every 2 seconds. Then it would be a perfect simulation of what actually goes on during RAW and Smackdown these days.

Man, WWE All Stars was such a better game than THQ's "sim franchise". Fuck you guys for closing that studio. As Midway San Diego, they made the best Mortal Kombat game (Shaolin Monks), and as THQ San Diego they made the best WWE game, and their reward both times is being closed by their publisher. Fuck this industry sometimes.

I hope it's realistic, so if you go to New York or Chicago they cheer who they want to cheer and some places the crowd is just dead no matter what you do.

I feel like these games have improved a lot since, say, 06, but in a lot of ways they just managed to almost get back to where wrestling games were in the last generation, which is still behind where these games were two generations ago. Wrestling games (and honestly, sports games in general) seemed to really peak in the PS1/N64 era. I'm not one of these people who is super nostalgic about old games and think for the most part we're playing the best games ever right now, but this is a genre that time has left behind, with no sign of real improvement.

@rick9109: I agree with almost every point you made. Although after playing that embarrassment that was WWE'12, I'd much, much rather still play SvR2006. Jury's still out on this one (to be fair), but as many are saying, it's not showing much improvement with anything that really matters. Like every year with WWE game trailers, most of their "new GROUND-BREAKING features" aren't really new at all, or at most, very insignificant improvements. I'd really love to buy a new and improved, realistic wrestling game that simulates WWE, but they just aren't giving us many good reasons to.

The only WWE game I've bought since SvR2006 was WWE All Stars, because it was actually something *new* and worth buying. And I bought SvR2006 back in the day because of its solid easy-to-customize gameplay, massive moveset available (larger than current WWE games), and they upped the max wrestlers in-ring to *6*, which was fantastic for its time and provided endless fun for Royal Rumbles. Now we're in 2012 and they still have yet to improve the engine enough to raise that number. That was 2005... come on, that's just shameful.

@Uberdubie: The only real problem with current wrestling games, as with the TV show it tries to represent is that it's heartless and it lacks any genuine emotion, the old school late '80s, the '90s and late 90s-early 2000 vibe, characters and storylines. It's nothing more than another cold product, wrapped in shinny plastic ads right now.

Sadly, the internet, the reality shows, the political correctness censorship, the greedy and sterile corporate mindset plus all that positive thinking crap ruined fun, entertaining television that I and many others used to like and enjoy, and even nipped in the bud any future creative idea for TV shows. You can't even show a picture of a flower today because someone, somewhere would likely be offended by it.

@Vlad_Tiberius: I agree with everything you said, although I believe that's more a problem with everything we see in media/entertainment rather than just a game like this.

This series just isn't going anywhere. Heck, simply having simultaneous on-screen 10-20 man royal rumbles alone would sell me in an instant. But they refuse to improve the dated engine.

That 'Oh My God!' chant sounds so weird in place of the usual 'Holy Shit!' one but they are not exactly going to put that one in the game, obviously.

I wonder if the game comes out on the PC , would there be a mod so that the crowd chats "Holy Shit" ?

@Uberdubie: Imagine that wrestlers today are not going on binge drinking in shady bars, smoking crack, fucking bitches and hanging out together like old wrestlers did. Hell no, the wrestlers today just take their steroids, work out in the gym, sign autographs and take pictures for kids ('cause it's all "family friendly" now, remember?) and, at the end of the working day, they go home and post shit on twitter. Yeah, real "wild" stuff .

That sounds like a pretty good summation of WWE wrestling in general right now honestly. When they are at their 'best' recently is when they do things they should have been doing by default anyway, and have to resort to nostalgia to keep people watching for as long as they have.
