Not to mention Ryback lifting two dudes into the Shell Shocked. What a show-off.

Ryback is going to see this and go over to Yukes and tell them, "FINISH IT!" in regards to his in game model.

@darkmagus517: With all due respect, what were you expecting? 2K has had the WWE license since February or March. It's always been painfully obvious that this year was not going to be the year 2K really cares and just puts out the game Yukes was already making for THQ because why would you throw away money and sales for no reason? Sure, be disappointed in how bad this looks all you want (frankly I can't believe they're still using the DLC Ryback model from WWE '13 that has never looked like him), but you really need to readjust your expectations if you're that surprised that this isn't the year 2K rethinks everything you know about wrestling games.

So I have the tiniest interest in wrestling but I guess it is my compulsion to watch every video that gets posted up here that's responsible for me reloading and refreshing this video at least 6 or so times now. It refuses to play. I've watched the Deadpool QL and the videos posted after but this one just isn't starting.

Any ideas or am I forced to continue my now empty life after being denied the ability to watch what is essentially advertisement for a game I have no intention of ever buying.

Is anyone genuinely excited about a new WWE game anymore solely for the current era stuff and not because of the inclusion of the Attitude Era? Do these people exist?

Also, is this Ryback character's gimmick a crossbreed of Rhyno/Goldberg?...

Uh, yes. People buy these game's annually for the same reason they buy sports games. Roster updates.

Sure you can create your own version of popular wrestlers with the create a wrestler settings, but it's not the same. People want to play as the current versions of the characters they see on TV. In fact, I'd say that's the sole reason people buy these games every year, because it's certainly not because they are competently made or fun.

I haven't bought a wrestling game since SmackDown vs. Raw and to be honest seeing the same lacklustre reiteration each year I don't feel I've missed out on anything.

I think Yukes needs to take a year out. Hell take three. Get a decent engine, learn how it works. Maybe do something different to get the creativity back and maybe after all that, maybe consider WWE again. It's probably a lot more complicated than that, with contractual obligations and such, but it would be nice to see this franchise at least catch up with the rest of the generation before everybody jumps ship to the next.

WWE'13 had some nice new features (Attitude-era storymode and ring editor), but the holy shit they need to take this away from Yukes already... and by already, I mean 8 years ago.

Because frankly, I haven't played a WWE game worth buying since SvR2006.

I don't know if it's just been the intoduction of next-gen hardware but why does this year's game look like complete shit. I know these games have been ruining on the same basic stuff since the PS2 but wow does 2K14 look rough. Since when did they half the polygons?

Why do they date yearly franchises like that? It comes out this year, right? Shouldn't it be WWE '13?

It comes out later this year, so next May when someone's grandmother is at the store and see 2K14 they say, "Oh, this is the newest one", instead of seeing WWE 13 and saying, "Oh, this one is a year old"

Why not call it 2K15 then? The date's nonsensical as it is, let's give it even more shelf life.

Yeah, god damn it. I'll bitch and moan about it but at some juncture I'll most likely end up with it. Ugh. I hate myself. I say every year I won't give in to this shit and yet I've played every single WWE game since Smackdown.

I have 3 questions about this game:

  1. Can you still make a Ganondorf wrestler?
  2. Does the presence of more than 1 folding table completely fuck up the AI in CPU vs CPU matches?
  3. Does King have new creepy stuff to say about the Divas?

In other words, can VGCW continue with this game?

I sure hope so. Otherwise, what is the point of releasing this game?

Crowds have mocked him by chanting "Goldberg" at him for eight months, so you're not too far off.

The models look like they have less detail than WWE '13. They look... cartoony

Add a career mode worth a d***, or at least try to outdo Here Comes The Pain's career mode, and I'll deal with that.

This. HCTP had the best story mode hands-down. It's still probably my favourite wrestling title. I played WWE '12 after a 2-year break and enjoyed it, and I liked the look of 13's story editor, but... c'mon.

If they take out the story and character creation options, this game will be dead to me.

I liked WWE 13 well enough, but those elements were really all it had going for it besides pretty decent reversal mechanics.

So I guess they aren't going to change the visuals at all huh? I mean I picked up WWE 13 for the Attitude Era stuff and put up with the ugly graphics and stiff animations to play as Mankind and classic Jericho, buying the same game just to play as a really crappy looking Macho Man isn't happening. Also could CM Punk's hair look anymore like a wig there? Disappointing.

No offense to the people at Yuke's, their games have certainly been competent and experimented with interesting ideas, but I'm really hoping that Take Two can do something with this WWE license in the years to come.

By "do something with," do you mean give the series to someone else? If so, I would agree.

I'm not a wrestling fan, but as a fan of video games, it's always bothered me how these very popular games can be so consistently and aggressively middling. From what we can see here, it doesn't seem like that's changing with the jump to 2K. Yuke's just needs to stop.

I'm guessing that Yukes was originally rushed by THQ to make as bare a sequel as possible. Once 2K had the license, the development for WWE14 was already well under way and it wouldn't make since for 2K to skip this year since the WWE franchise will turn a profit either way. I think I heard in some interview somewhere that a new engine was on its way for next year's game.

@jjweatherman: Yeah, I'm hoping we'll see a new developer. I'm sure development of this game had already started prior to 2K obtaining the license, so I don't fault them for just seeing things through to the end.
