@nekuctr: its probably made of cheaper parts, like Jeff said, so when the Xbone comes out they can significantly drop the price. It wouldnt make sense to drop the price now because there will still be many 360 sales between now and November.

I think it's kind of nuts that this is $299. I only payed like $50 more last year for the Gears Xbox, which has more benefits than this.

Also, what was the point of this new design? It doesn't seem that much smaller and the S was already pretty quiet, so I don't understand what has been improved.

At this point I would thing they would just make a stripped 360 for $99 that just plays games. Idk who would pay $300 for this, this late.

They're probably approaching the pricing structure this way so they can make a bunch of extra cash selling it for the same price with cheaper internal hardware as older consoles that are still in stock so people don't suddenly stop buying the older models and leave games store and microsoft with a tonne of spare hardware sitting around that won't shift out of their warehouses.

Then further down the line when they do need to compete with the expected PS3 price drops they can do so no problem.
Besides if they price drop now that will force Sony to go even lower than them to still compete and in turn MS will have to reduce their prices again quite quickly to match them pretty closely. Sure that's good for us but no one would do that at the detriment of their own profit.

Consoles are like time capsules. They're a photo freeze frame of outdated hardware and specs from the time they were first made. It stands to reason that whoever produces and ships these things are stuck in the same bubble and don't really get why you'd expect stuff like HDMI cables to be included.

Just the same, the xb1 will still be shipping in 2023 with the stuff it gets in 2013. No holovision implant. No introverted laser cords. Just plain old 2013 tech.

@pillclinton: you want to pay bleeding edge prices for a super slim 360 or you want a cheap fat one?

I am sure that as soon as XB1 is out this will go down in price big time.

@nekuctr: It has cheaper parts and there is no sense in price dropping it right now with a new console launch in November. They want to price drop the 360 then, so that would mean dropping the price twice in a 6 month period which is just a headache and could be seen as "tricking" consumers into thinking a price drop now IS the holiday price drop. It will look better to drop the price on the 360 when the Xbox1 launches and it gives retail time to get the S models off shelves so there will only be this new model and the Xbox1 on shelves for the holidays.

And with most if not all of the games for this holiday being "split-gen", the 360 will still see a lot of sales this year, probably even more than the Xbox1 unless that has a subsidy announced for it.

@jeff Do you know what the audio out situation is on that thing? I use an adapter and red/white RCA cables to hook the Elite into my speakers. Does this come with an adapter or anything?

Why does this thing even exist? The only thing I can think of is that Microsoft decided that they needed more market confusion.

It's the PS3 that had HDCP issues for recording over HDMI, 360 is fine for recording gameplay.

I prefer my 360 to sound like a jet engine. As far as i'm concerned that's what games sound like now.

So they basically removed a whole bunch of functionality, kept the same price oh and also there isn't any bundle with this one? Snap up those 360 S's while they're out there, I guess. I'm still rolling my Pro.

They've done a few actually, with the 3DSXL, Super slim ps3, this one, and I think I'm missing another. They don't really ever do an unboxing of a first run system, they only do second run or slim versions to show viewers the size differences and if it feels cheap ect..

If they really are getting rid of capacitive controls then that means I can finally turn on my plasma sphere. I can't turn it on in the same room as my xbox or ps3 because it causes them to turn on and off and eject randomly.

Holy smokes. What are you doing that you need to be buying 3TB HDDs weekly for? (Also, that isn't exactly cheap. 110 USD is the cheapest 3TB I've seen [new at any rate]) If you're paying for all the data that's filling those up, I have a paypal account you can drop a few bucks into, if you'd like to get rid of some of that money in a different way.

Why would anyone buy this? It's way overpriced and it doesn't come with any games like the current S does for the same price. Furthermore, in just a few months the PS4 will be out which is only $100 more.

I also wish the guys would do something with a camera for the office. Ryans little Flip just doesn't cut it when you can see the quality of video they can put together as seen in the E3 stuff. The video is shaky and really struggles in low-light. Use some of that CBSi money and just buy a little micro four thirds.

HDMI is like a buck on monoprice, most people I know have hdmi cables just laying around cause they are so cheap and used for everything.

Did he say $299? Would have thought considering the size they could at least get it cheaper. Who does Microsoft's industrial design... the Surface, Xbox 360 and Xbox One are all way to clumsy looking? I'd def. go Wii U over this at that price point.

This thing seems really dumb. I even actually prefer how the S is styled. The PS3 Super Slim seemed dumb to me when it came out, but at least it had some real differences from the reg Slim. I would understand more if this was coming out at $250 for the 250GB, but it doesn't seem like they're going to do that until console launch at this point.

The lack of a Toslink port is a bummer, since that's what many gaming headsets use.
