@larrydavis: You get into murky water trying to toss the labels around though. I mean, Korra's animation has been handled by a Korean studio that worked on the first series and a Japanese studio. Namely Studio Pierrot, who animated Yu Yu Hakusho, Flame of Recca, Saiyuki, Naruto, Bleach, etc...

So much MEH to me, but from the looks of it plenty of fans of the show will buy it and then maybePlatinumGamescan make something awesome.

Every time I read GAF, I wonder if they live in some kind of fantasy world where video games and TV shows are some kind of analogy for genocide, considering the amount of rage they feel over it. The dictators of the world manipulating the game industry as some kind of proxy war.

@mathewmcgee: Korra is a sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and alot of its concepts are introduced in that show. It might still be on Netflix, otherwise you can find it on DVD. Either way, Avatar is widely considered one of the best animated adventure shows ever made, and it has a strong following for a reason. You should definitely watch it before anything. Otherwise, the impact of alot of stuff in Korra might not really hit home. First season is pretty simplistic and has alot of stand-alone episodes, but it's fun and deals with some surprisingly mature themes, especially for something aimed at kids. The second season, specifically once Toph gets introduced, is when the show really becomes amazing. My brother got me hooked onto it, and just about everyone else I've showed it too became obsessed.

Korra is definitely aged up a bit, but is hit or miss at times. Atleast when compared to Avatar. Season 1 was pretty strong for the most part, season 2 was pretty rocky, but season 3 has been off to great start. But still, if nothing else, the fight choreography is pretty fantastic, and the animation is generally quite excellent. As for how to watch it, you can probably purchase episodes off of PSN/XBLA/itunes etc. Otherwise, the first two seasons are available on blu-ray.

@alyssia: there's quite a few great shows out there thanks to nickelodeon so that's kind of a dismissive attitude to have. ren & stimpy, rocko's modern life, invader zim, A:TLA and korra, to name a few. i mean, unless you have watched and hated each and every one of them, then fair enough.

I just almost had a heart attack just reading the title of this video! Legend of Korra is probably the best animated show running on TV right now, and just one of the best shows in general!

I wish I was interested in that show, because I love me some Platinum.

I'm 26 now and I used to be pretty into anime in my teens, until a few years ago, and of course western cartoons as a kid (Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men, TMNT, Jackie Chan Adventures lol, etc etc.) Netflix seems to have a lot of old classics that I used to love, and lots of things I missed. This Legend of Korra show looks great! What is the best way to watch it? I don't have cable.

Also: I hope that game turns out great. For all the LoK fans and Platinum games fans alike.

Do I have to know what "Legend of Korra" is? I can only find the 2014 game on GB

remind me never to look at neogaf again. the level of hate they have for book 2 should only be reserved for certain war criminals. it was a little disappointing in context, yes, but come on.

@landon: If you say so. I know a lot of people really like it, but everything I've seen was embarrassing. Especially the super low-rent animation that seemed to be about 2 frames per second. But I think that was early in Avatar's run so maybe it got better? I'm not going to waste time to find out. I'm busy watching Trailer Park Boys on Netflix, a show that I do not fully understand, but is strangely compelling.

Yeah, but it's a really REALLY good children's cartoon.

Oh, the game comes out this fall and they can't show us a single ounce of gameplay? Cool. Where do I pre-order?

Wait, that shitty non-anime on Nickelodeon got a spinoff? Didn't realize it was that popular. I'll give this a shot, though, I'm always up for more Platinum.

I wouldn't care about this game but Platinum is making it so it'll probably at least play well.

@sravankb: i never backlashed on korra even when it meandered a bit in book 2. i personally think the amon arc was a fiting way to progress the series: more adult and complex themes and a bit of a darker slant, plus it was a meanigful plot that didn't have to hinge on the fate of the world. just wish they didn't feel the need to go balls-out grandiose with book 2 (though it was still pretty great and the 1st avatar eps were totally worth it).

e: here's hoping beifong delivers some kickass earth bending in book 3.

Considering all Korra really does is punch-bend people, I don't think it will be an issue. The versatility and complexity of bending severely dropped off in the new series.

An Avatar game from the makers of Bayonetta? This could be alright. But the trailer not showing anything and this being a downloadable title for a cartoon series has me skeptical.

Book 2 had some moments, but alot of the characters make some REALLY dumb decisions that make no sense. The new character Varric was entertaining, the side story with Tenzin's family is pretty great, and when they get into the origins of the first Avatar, it's REALLY fascinating while leading to a kinda neat finale. But overall, it wasn't a good season.

Book 3 has started really well though.

Well I don't care at all but maybe this will be a big seller for Platinum and they can buy Okami off of Capcom.

How's the show after the Amon arc?

@the_vein: Korra isn't a very imaginative bender, she just punches things, even after learning and mastering every element.

The first few episodes were indeed done by a different studio for reasons, but the original studio (Studio Mir) did the second half of that season and are committed to animating the show until it ends. It's amazing what difference the subtle facial expressions and body language makes. Also, they're not redoing those episodes. That would be crazy expensive for just a Blu-ray release.

Activision must retain the video game license for LoK and that's why they've partnered with Platinum who might be big fans of the show. On a side note to the show itself my one criticism is the seasons are too self contained and aren't like TLA in that it had an overarching story with a beginning (book 1), middle (book 2) and an end (book 3).

Awesome to see Platinum Games doing an Avatar game. I'm interested to see how exactly they translate the show's elemental combat and mobility into a game.

Hopefully Activision gave Platinum a fair amount of time to create a good game, and not another poorly made movie/tv show game, or a tease of what a good Avatar game could be.

lol, I surprised myself when a friend convinced me to watch the Avatar cartoon on Nicklodeon. I ended up liking it (hated the first few episodes though).

That said, this was a really lolworthy trailer.
