The Ship 2 with new features and shitty graphics. Probably somewhat fun.

It isn't really anything at all like The Ship.

@basketsnake:

The Ship was about hunting down a target that looked like a picture in the corner of the screen. This is about taking in visual clues to identify a single person from a group of NPCs designed to act somewhat like a player controlled character.

And the Ship was really boring.

I feel like it's been years since I last saw this and it looks pretty much the same. I guess that's kind of insulting. I don't make games. Maybe, I was just hoping it would be released sooner rather than later.

I remember when Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood came out, and people said "oh, so the multiplayer is sort-of like Spy Party".

This game has been in development for a while, guys.

think this game was announced and playable at e3 a year after the ps3 was released. I singed up for the beta that year and 100 times after that and never got in. and I also don't like how they pointed out in that accent this is the spy with new art. anyways screw them they already left a bad taste in my mouth.

About the graphics. I don't think you have been paying attention. Re watch the video / go look up other videos / run a search.

Yeah, I remember that. Could this be the new Johann Sebastian's Joust?

It is absolutely nothing like the ship. Outside the setting that is.

Edit: Also look up what the actual graphics are going to look like. It looks outstanding!

In addition to this game being absolutely nothing like The Ship, even if it was, it would be The Ship 3, not The Ship 2. Bloody Good Time was the spiritual sequel to The Ship, made by the same people. :P

For some reason I might prefer the graphics as they are? I hope they leave an option to choose between the styles anyway.

Can't wait to play this in 2019 when the public beta opens. Wasn't the new art announced 18 months ago?

Their website looks like a wall of text with lego characters on it. A kids game I'd say. Why play this when you can play ultra realistic hardcore games like Wolfenstein the third reich?

Glad to see this game coming out. Not sure how the guy(s) and/or gal(s) making this have been able to stay alive while making this, unless it was in their spare time. Either way, yay for it arriving soon.

How on Earth has this taken so long? I need to hear the story. Even just taking so long to implement the art they announced like 12 months ago is weird.

This is a game that probably needs DLC like new characters and maps, but at the rate Hecker makes content I am worried we will all be dead before anything else comes of this game.

I don't feel like the narrow scope of the game warrants such a long development cycle, especially when they still have to put the graphics in the box.

The new art looks great. Good thing they are no longer charging you for the beta and beta only. Before you had to pay to get the beta and you wouldn't even get the finished product.

@torabi: You always got the finished product when you buy the beta, it has been the same since they first sent out invites.

Oh, alright. I always got the impression that you only paid for the beta. Good to hear that wasn't the case.

I really love this idea as a concept. Hard to get an insight as to how it worked in practice thought. I feel like it might be really easy to spot the human player just because of how they might move a bit more erratically and stuff, but I guess that's kinda the point. I guess I just mean I wonder what they've done from a control/movement mechanics standpoint to try and mitigate the human input being too obvious.

Also, it kinda fun to think about the meta-aspect of AI being designed to act naturally and convincingly, and the player trying to fit in with the AI by bridging the uncanny valley gap

How long have they been saying there will be a final version?

Bet you any money there will be a Steam early access before that.

Chris Hecker is an alright dude, but for a game that has been in development this long (even with a small team), and has such a niche appeal (multiplayer only, actually requires thought instead of run 'n' gun deathmatch), it seems like it'll only sell a few thousand copies. Like, tens of thousands, I guess.

I guess something like Monaco apparently sold like 750,000 copies, if only because the games press was so super hyped about that game for the longest time. So maybe Spy Party could somehow pull that off.
