Yoshi's New Island Remains Decidedly Yoshi's Island-Looking

I see this as a waste of Nintendo resources, lol.

Not gonna lie, that trailer makes this game look really boring.

Yeah, Jeff has a tendency to not like some really great stuff and like stuff that is garbage. He hates like every good SNES game that isn't Link to the Past, FF4, and SMW (exaggeration, but still seems like most of the games brought up from that era he hates.) That being said I adore the original SNES game, but think this looks bland and charmless from what I've seen.

This is actually a really good point and I felt the same about ALBW. Fine, I'll withhold judgment.......FOR NOW.

I can tell that it's supposed to look like oil paint and also possibly pastels, but somehow it just ends up looking like bad pre-rendered "3D" sprites. Maybe it's that back when the first one was made, they had to use primitive pixel art to emulate crayon marks, and succeeded, using their limitations to their advantage. This time, it looks like they've just emulated paint and scaled it down for a low-resolution screen.

I have no opinion of this game, but in a "pick a side" decision between Jeff and Patrick, I'm sure as hell never picking Patrick.

I will defend the original Yoshi's Island to the death, but this game... I don't know. We'll see.

I miss sprites. And if these are technically sprites, I miss good sprites.

If this is more like the DS game than the SNES game that will be a shame. Here is to hoping, but I think it is pretty clear that the A team is not working on this. They were making Zelda after all.

This game seems to have terrible art.

The Touch Fuzzy Get Dizzy level alone makes Yoshi's Island a classic.

I'd rather they had made a new Yoshi's Touch & Go than this though, that mini-game was promising. Also they already did a Yoshi's Island remake on the DS...

Yes and no. LoZ Link Between Worlds was done tastefully and I can see this being the same. The original was a great unique game.

Looks a bit... fan game with ripped sprite art to me. Doesn't look overly fun either if I am honest.

In my opinion, the SNES original is easily, EASILY one of the top ten games on the system and I like it more than Super Mario World. Heck, than most of the platformers on the SNES one way or another.

This looks like it will likely be garbage, or at best...passable.

I've only ever enjoyed one Yoshi game. Every other game since then (Story, Topsy-Turvy, etc. etc.) has been kinda lousy so I don't have the highest of hopes for this one.

Jeff doesn't like good SNES games. He never tried Donkey Kong Country 2 or 3 (the best in the series), doesn't appreciate Super Metroid and hates Yoshi's Island. His opinion is clearly really bizarre and not to be trusted when it comes to those games. I bet he doesn't even really like Mega Man X.

I can't say anything about the gameplay, it could be great. But the 3D models just look so dead compared to the sprite animation of the original, and it's very off putting.
