@panicproduct: The Gears of War trailer shows a world in ruin due to a literally quite mad war, though it didn't really end up reflecting the tone of the game too accurately (Marcus was too busy curb stomping to notice how the war had ravaged the land most of the time and the hopelessness of it all etc) it did at least give you an idea of the world that the game is set in.

This trailer on the other hand is nothing like that, the song and video itself aren't edited together very well from the looks of it (despite the live action footage being quite well done) and lyrics and tone of the music have no relevance to the game. You can't just put a song that is at odds with the footage shown and just say it's dramatic, there should be some sort of link between the two things no matter how tenuous.

To be fair though I can barely hear the lyrics of the song due to the guy singing it sounds like he is constantly about to sneeze.

Don't take my criticisms of the trailer to be me condemning the game itself (I don't know if implying I would be too young to have played the first gears was meant to be an insult or not to be honest) it may be great despite the changes and I haven't played it myself so I can't judge.

I think it's rather grim that a lot of these trailers like Dead Space 3 and Halo have the protagonist jump over a cliff right when he reaches the boss. Committing suicide right there is pretty dumb when you've spend all that time getting through the rest of the game.

Say what you will about the trailer but I still got to air drum the same as with the original version so it gets a pass in my book

They used "Mad World" in the original trailer, just how "In the Air" is being used for this. It creates a dramatic effect.

that trailer looks like it could be for a Mass Effect 3 expansion pack. Not knocking on either game, but it just looks very generic sci-fi epic-y

Despite the quality of this trailer I'm looking forward to Dead Space 3. I do wish it was more horror oriented but I think I'm going to have a blast playing the game co-op with my friend

How can this series go from having an atmospheric trailer with Sigur Ros music to something like this. The original launch trailer for Dead Space has to be one of my favourites of all time. Now I just worry where this series is going. I really hope this is just all part of the marketing push and that the single player remains mostly untouched

were pretty great. This seems more in line with the "your mom will hate dead space" marketing campaign (shudders).

I have no beef with snow-themed dead space - that part's actually been a compelling setting for horror on many occasions - or with this music. However, they're still pretending the game is big dumb action rather than horror. I waited to read many reviews before buying Dead Space 2, and I'll do the same again.

When your cover of a bland 80s rock song manages to sound tamer than the original, you done fucked up.

Isaac Clarke the CG model doesn't look anything like the in game model. This trailer isn't as good as Dead Space 2's trailer.

I didn't know 'gamers' had to play everything under the fucking sun and not have an opinion different from your own. I've been playing games since I was six. I'm twenty-four now. And guess what: I'm fucking choosy, because I'm a grad. student who needs to buy games for himself. So what little money I have goes to shit I actually enjoy. I develop A TASTE, just like everyone does--just like every gamer does. And I don't enjoy Dead Space. So I'm not going to buy it.

And I do hate change when it's for the worse. Dead Space was fine--not great, just fine. The Xenomorphs were an interesting new-ish thing, even if anyone could see the myriad of sci-fi influences from a mile away. They at least were a new-ish thing in video games. Limb-based cutty shitty was still novel. Dead Space 2 had fantastic lighting, and the gameplay was fine. There was no tension to it whatsoever. It was boring. It was slogging. Nothing scared me. Every Xenomorph appearance was accompanied by a loud, screeching piano note. Eventually, I just stopped fucking caring.

Dead Space 3 demo played fine. There, again, was no tension. Nothing was scary. You can't have such a harsh switch in tone and still try to go for jump scares. You can't go for jump scares every half-minute. Jump scares are rendered ineffective at that point. Granted it was the demo, but everything from the marketing, the demo, the precedent of Dead Space 2 is screaming "Dead Space 3 will be an action-heavy game". And that's fine. But I'm left there going "Okay." And that's it. The game, again, doesn't play badly. But cutting shit at specific points isn't novel anymore. It's not scary. I don't give a fuck about Isaac. So I'm not invested in anything about the game. So I just don't give a fuck. I acknowledge that it's produced and plays well enough, but I do not give a shit about it at all.

I don't hate it, and I don't think a lot of the internet actively hates this game. Simply the hyperbolic rhetoric that we know as internet speak makes it look like this is a fucking abomination. It's just an inoffensively forgettable series that's changed, a lot feel, for the worse. And it'll just be forgotten, no matter how well it plays. That's about that. It's the video game equivalent of Subway or something--kinda eh, but serviceable. It won't kill you, but if you're looking for something to give a shit about, you can do better.

Really disappointed with that song, it just feels off.

I've never seen so much hate for a game since Mass Effect 3....The gaming community has been so childish lately. Its like you guys hate change and games itself. The gameplay feels fantastic and scary. Co-op is damn good with lots of replay value. People judging a game by its E3 demo is pretty much tarted in the head. Are people Gamers anymore or just nitpickers?

After playing the demo for DS3 any cautious excitement I had for this game got sucked right out of me.....AND GOD DAMMIT I LOVED THE OTHER GAMES! Maybe its me. Maybe I don't need another one of those games right now.

That cover actually had potential at first, but really botched it on the chorus. That song is all about building up to the drums kicking in, and messing up that part of the track while simultaneously using it as the climax of your trailer really kills the mood.

Says nothing of the trailer's actual content, mind you, which looks pretty alright to me.

It would have been better if they had just licensed the original song.
