You Got Your Dynasty Warriors In My One Piece

I like One Piece a lot and I haven't played a Dynasty Warriors clone is as long as I can remember, so this might be the one to pull me back in. I hear it's PSN only, too and I've got an old points card I haven't spent. I'll be looking forward to this in November...provided I remember.

I hope Koei at least tries to change the formula of the typical Dynasty Warriors release. This is hands down my favorite cartoons of all time and I would hate to see it bogged down with repetitive, uninspired gameplay. If buying this supports the TV show even a little bit I will gladly purchase a copy regardless of quality. The "To Be Continued" straight from the show was a nice touch.

I like the One Piece manga, beyond that... well it looks interesting at least. 
 
in not 100% up to date on the manga but it looks like it has most of the main characters from recent arcs.

You can see gameplay footage all over Youtube as it's been out in Japan for a while. It actually looks fun considering it's based on the Dynasty Warriors framework.

Not too sure about that art style, but if turns out to be a decent HD One Piece game that doesn't get released outside of Japan, heads are gonna roll.

It's dumb, but knows how to balance the dumbness with an incredible story and meaningful character development at the same time. It still has some of your stereotypical shonen stuff, but with just enough crazy to keep you watching. I've only ever played the Wii game adaptations so far, but I'm really looking forward to this one (got kinda bored with the Wii games after a short while)

Why can't they make a good One Piece game? It's like a huuuuuuge franchise and it is actually pretty good, unlike Naurto and Bleach.

@Lazyaza: Bleach did have that DS fighting game a short while ago. I didn't actually play it but remember it receiving positive reviews.

As someone who doesn't watch anime, One Piece has always seemed to be the most anime thing around. The game's graphics look appealing to me; unfortunately, if it plays like a Dynasty Warriors game then I have no desire to play it. I got my fill of Dynasty Warriors game play years ago.

I love One Piece and am hoping that this'll turn out to be great. I however am not getting my hopes up sadly.

If it looked more like Naruto, then it wouldn't be One Piece. That's the main complaint that I hear from people about the series (and I thought it looked pretty weird at first too) but it's something that is extremely easy to get over once you get into the story. The game looks pretty decent, though, I've played other adaptations in the past and I wasn't disappointed, but it was easy to get bored. I think with this type of setup it'll work much better.

I think what he meant is that the naruto games style has an effect to it that at first glance you could mistake it for the anime, where these One Piece characters look like 3d models of one piece characters. I've never read/watched much One Piece but I always liked how One Piece had more than "6 faces", it reminds me a lot of a cartoons from the 30's or 40's. Characters have exaggerated features like pipe cleaner arms or foot long noses because Pop Eye and Astro Boy had characters like that. Characters were usually pretty rounded, with there own look, personality and quirks, heck don't the villains all have an unique laugh?

I like how they downplayed how stupid and weird One Piece is with the music they chose for this trailer. The power of editing!

I will never understand how One Piece became soooooo popular in Japan.

I hate when anime makes all the characters super-deformed for a sec and says UH-OH NOW IT'S JOKE TIME, GET READY FOR THE WHACKINESS!!!!!! And I think the voices are awful and the characters look like a cartoon for very young children.

But y'know... I think everyone's dress sense is great, and meeting insane mega-pirates all over the place is fun.

Love One Piece, indifferent on Dynasty Warriors. I'd probably take a pass on this even if it wasn't PS3 only.

@HumanoidTyphoon: Just talking about the visual rendering aspect of the game, the characters are volumetric, and seem normal mapped, and that is fine in most games, makes them more realistic, but in an anime .. it seems like they are made of some form of play dough.. It's not bad, just.. doesn't render as anime-like as the naruto or bleach games do.

Read the manga. It's way better than the anime. One Piece sounds like another dumb shonen but it's got one of the most concretely solid storylines with the least amount of plot holes of nearly any story I've read, and there's a reason it is literally the best selling book, period, in all of Japanese history. One out of every eight Japanese people reads One Piece, and it's really a shame 4kids basically ruined its chances in the west, because nothing really compares to it.

Personally, I want to see what the quick look of this will be like. Hopefully at least Vinny or Jeff will be involved, because the nonstop incredulity at the craziness going on(which all still makes sense in context) should be amazing.

At least I hope there's a scene involving Kaku at some point. "That man just turned into a giant giraffe carpenter ninja secret agent wielding four swords. What"

It's a shame neither One Piece nor Bleach have yet to receive their "Budokai" or "Ninja Storm" game treatments, ala games that sell on fan service but are actually decent. Man a game that was built like a Bayonetta but all One Piece-ish would be amazing. How the hell do anime companies not realize this and just license out their properties to studios with talent.

The gameplay will definitely work just like a Dynasty Warriors game. In case you don't know what that means, here you go.

Doesn't fit? In what sense? I've seen 80 odd episodes of the anime and this game looks very One Piece-esque. Seems faithful to the source material.

If it looked more like Naruto, then it wouldn't be One Piece.
