Repetitive, but Enjoyable
It's odd that Vikings have been such an ignored centerpiece of a game. They seem to be MADE for gaming. Brutally violent warriors tends to equal FUN game.
Well, outside of Blizzard's Lost Vikings, I can't think of a major Viking related title outside of this surprisingly enjoyable --- but not surprisingly violent --- game.
Viking follows the path of Skarin, a Viking warlord who is seeking to help his fellow Vikings fight back against the evil Legion. This takes an exceptionally long time as you have to liberate three increasingly large islands. And you have to fight progressively difficult enemies.
While the game is violent --- really fucking violent --- there is a very good stealth element. Your island missions always end with a siege of a huge capital city, but you have to do some stealth work to prepare for the attack. And you really do need to be quiet because, if you're caught, you're going to get overwhelmed and slaughtered.
The game does get fairly tedious. I couldn't bring myself to finish it, which is a criticism of high proportions. But the game is a great title to play. I'll likely try it again in the future. But this game has sadly fallen through the cracks as the game deserved a lot more attention than this.
