Lots of options, but there's only three groups:

    1. The first three revolve around whether your opinion of the Rift went up or down.
    2. The next three are about the Vive.
    3. And finally your opinion in general, with the last option if you don't succumb to zeitgeist or didn't really feel anything either way.

It's multiple choice so pick whatever applies. If you never wanted any of them and still don't, just go with the last one. If you already bought one, just answer for whatever headset you don't have, as your opinion on your purchase shouldn't be influenced by anything outside of your own experiences.

For the Vive, pick option three if you thought it was rad but you just don't have the physical space for it.

For me, I went way down on the Rift (touch/motion controllers seem to be integral, so I'd have to wait for that, but most games looked poor on their own anyway), and up on the Vive's software lineup, but I just can't dedicate the room unless I clear out a bedroom and turn it into a Holodeck, which probably won't go over well. How about you? Did 10+ hours of each headset do anything to your opinion?

My apologies if I missed an obvious option (as I usually do), but eleven choices is probably too many already.

The Vive stream made me way more convinced of the value of the various 'touch' controllers for all of the VR headsets but also reaffirmed my original idea that the room-scale stuff is completely impractical.

The hardware for both of the current headsets seems great and from what we've heard PSVR seems similar but the software definitely has a long way to go. I think once the basics of movement and general mechanics becomes standard across the board we'll start to see a lot more well fleshed out games with some more interesting mechanics.

The technology is clearly there. If I were to buy one right now I'd want to get a Vive. But the thing keeping me away is software and financial woes. I can see myself getting one in the next couple of years.

Definitely agree with Radio Jeff's recommendation of "find someone who owns one". I'd love to mess around with one for a few hours, but man I do not want to fork over all that cash for the ability to play a bunch of minigame collections and tech demos whenever I want.

The vive looks pretty rad, space requirements notwithstanding. It also seems to have the better games overall.

No sway for me but I enjoyed watching the Vive much more than the Rift. The moving and controllers look like they make the experience way more awesome. But I can't see myself wanting to play games on rails and/or teleporting around to move.

After the Rift stream last week, I'd confirmed that VR just isn't a must own for me. Today's Vive stream did show a couple things I would like to try however.

My thoughts on VR have been all over the place. I thought I was gonna firmly stay in the "wait and see" camp, especially after watching all of the Oculus stream, but after seeing some of the Vive stream today, I've ended up in the "I totally want to buy a Vive right now" camp. It just looks so cool and I kinda wanna be in on the ground floor with VR and ride this train wherever it goes.

There was a lot of great games on the vive today but since all I have is a laptop I'll have to wait and see if PSVR is any good. (i.e. if the games are good.)

@noelle808: I agree with you and I am also curious on the effects (physical and not) of extended use and what usage habits form. I am more than happy to let others be the canaries in the coal mine for the first iteration.

The Rift stream convinced me there was nothing to see on the Rift.

The Vive stream showed me there are things to see on the Vibe, but they want a whole room dedicated to it to show them. That's not feasible, I won't be buying one.

Here's hoping they get this shit sorted out and do it fast. The limitations on room scale VR (like having room, power and mounting shit) are too great.

As one of the lucky people to actually try VR multiple times it hasn't changed my opinion of "I don't have 2000 dollars to drop on this right now, but man one day." PSVR is probably where I'll end up going until PCs catch up to make the Rift and Vive truly reach their potential. Hopefully the software catches up as well by then.

With all this criticism of not having enough room to enjoy VR I wonder whether or not we will see the appearance of VR arcades (VRcades?). Could be really neat. And also a really good way of convincing myself that I'm living in a cyberpunk world.

I'm still where I was beforehand. They're all way too expensive with no games I care about except Elite, and buying a headset just for that seems like a terrible Idea.

The Vive's roomscale stuff is cool, but is not what I'm interested in actually playing (not to mention the ridiculous space requirements and needing to have a pc somewhere that makes sense). Although its camera seems like it would be really useful for seeing my keyboard when searching the galaxy map in Elite, which I think would be a problem when playing that game on the Rift. So in the magical christmas land where I have all the cash in the world, I'd probably end up going with a Vive just for that reason, but it's still such a ridiculous ask with either headset that I can't see myself ever getting either.

I never intended on buying one of these devices until they've proven themselves, which will probably be a few generations in, if it ever happens. I've enjoyed what I've seen of their coverage, though. It's nice to know what's going on.

The streams made me want one more, while showing me that I don't need one now.

I'm waiting to see what the next round of hardware looks like. I also want to see where the software falls. The company I work for is investigating whether there are any practical uses for VR (aerospace industry). We've had several meetings about it. I feel like a VR can be useful for our work, but I don't know how yet. It'd be cool to see if this technology can be applied outside of mini games and porn.

The thing I found about the streams is it reminded me of how VR will seem forever limited while these headsets are tethered to a computer by a bunch of cords.

Something to remember about the hardware is that VR headsets & controllers worked pretty well even back in the 90's... it was always the dearth of worthwhile software that was the big bottleneck in VR being worth investing in.

The current software looked really lackluster for Oculus and ever-so-slightly promising for Vive (but still largely lackluster). The next, let's say, 3-12 months of VR software will make or break whether VR remains totally niche or can move forward to becoming a mainstream product.

I caught some interesting stuff on the Vive stream, at least as far as mostly proof-of-concept tech demos go. But the chances of me owning a VR headset anytime within the near future are nil and not just because I don't have that sort of money/a high-end computer/space to set up all the motion sensing stuff.

The Vive stream exemplified the importance of motion controls. Apparently you can't move around in a proper video game sense without getting motion sick and then you are just sorta stuck with walking simulators and multimedia experiences. With motion controllers, you can at least get into some games where you are shooting a gun, which gives me hope for the resurgence of lightgun games.

At some point, someone will CoDify this VR stuff and then we'll start seeing games with substance.

I'm still super interested in VR, but I have more confidence in taking a chance on PlayStation VR, by virtue of the software they have lined up. Even their tech demo compilation VR Worlds seems to have more substance than what we've seen so far on the Oculus. That doesn't mean that I don't hope they'll all be successful. Sony doesn't stick to a gimmick if there's no competition in it, so if I'm getting into the PlayStation end of things in October, I hope there'll be a lot of reasons for VR to keep on keeping on, over the next few months.

Oculus deflated any excitement I might have had that the countless "you gotta play it to get it" podcasts hadn't stomped out by that point.

The Vive managed to reignite that interest despite having just as an underwhelming gaming line up as the Oculus.

I'm not buying either any time soon.

Eventually, I'll have to get one for racing sims. VR is basically tailor-made for racing sims. At this point, I really can't say which. It's way too early to tell which will win the VR war (or if there even will be a winner; Oculus and Vive may end up growing into their own specialties and niches). If I had to bet, I'd say the Vive will come out on top, by virtue of being backed by Valve and integrated with Steam. But I'm not too confident about that bet when I look back at the HD DVD vs. Blu-ray format war, where the familiar standard lost to the upstart. And Oculus being backed by Facebook can't hurt, although maybe that's actually a hindrance, who knows?

It really makes me wonder where VR will be in say, 3 years, when everything's fully figured out, and we all know what's really up with each headset, their actual realistic applications, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Right now, it's kind of like first person shooters on console. Nobody knows the standards of control yet, and a Halo needs to come along and show how it's done. Nobody even really knows what the hell VR is for yet.

Interested in VR as a platform, but have no money and the currently available games or experiences don't excite me enough to buy a headset if I had to spare cash.

The launch software keeps my interest about as long as a games event demo and not enough looks like it must be played in VR for the full effect.

The most exciting VR demo I've experienced was a first person horse racing simulator because of the stero audio of the commentary from the stands. A Gear VR dungeon crawler or a first person dream scape exploration didn't utilise what appealed most about VR and their obfuscated controls got in the way and didn't distract me from having a chunk of sweaty plastic strapped to my face.

It'll be fascinating to watch developers and players learn how to best navigate VR worlds. I hope to play more demos.

Vive made stronger case for itself - issue still is that there is not enough quality games/content for it to be worth the hassle of getting and setting up one.

It can and it does hurt. I wouldn't install the Rift on my PC even if one was given to me for free. I'm fine with the cost of a VR toy being several hundred dollars, but it's far too novel to be worth losing privacy over.

The Vive seemed like the standout winner from those streams for me in terms of actually having some software worth playing. I think launching with the controllers is huge, and I'm glad I cancelled my Rift preorder to wait for the Touch controllers to come out. As it stands, the Vive is more interesting to me currently but I'm on a wait-and-see stance right now, since I still think it sounds like the resolution of the headsets isn't where I'd want it to be and maybe the next iteration will be closer to what I want.

It didn't really change my opinion much, other than solidifying my beliefs that they wouldn't be worth the price right at launch. If I had the opportunity to try one, I'd take it in a heartbeat, but it's not something I must have right now.

If anything, I'm interested to see more non-game aspects of the technology. I could see some really fascinating experiences coming out that explore things intelligently in a VR space.

It may be a cool way to play games but I have yet to be convinced that any of the games for these devices will be cool. I'm still in the camp worrying that it will end up being lots of minigames and 'experiences'.

I am way more interested in VR as a spectator platform for sports events, music concerts, or nature etc. And I guess driving games.

That DotA 2 spectator thing honestly looks like the best use of VR I have seen so far, and I'm not going to fork out big money just to get a superior spectator mode.

The Rift stream had be sold on VR. The Vive however... If I had the floor space I would purchase one now, but seeing how even GB struggled for space, I question my ability to make room. Room scale VR definitely seems the way to go though. Give it a few months and I'll probably have one or the other. Or who knows, maybe the PlayStation VR will be awesome? Lots of potential in all of them.

The Rift stream was pretty much exactly what I expected and somehow killed what little interest I had in VR. A lot of the stuff shown in the Vive stream got me genuinely excited at the possibilities of VR, but none of the actual games I saw make me want to own one any time soon.

If I had the money and space, I would order a Vive right now. By the time I do meet those requirements there will likely be better hardware available, so I'm probably going to skip this first wave of VR.

Generally speaking I am more interested in the Vive than I was in the past. Those controllers seem to make a pretty good case for unique gaming experiences. The same could be said with the Oculus Touch controllers, but those aren't out yet, obviously.

My biggest hang up is my computer can't run VR. My CPU is a little borderline (I have a i7-3770k, which might be fine, but last I checked I needed one a little better than that) and my GPU is noticeably under the recommended specs. So at some point I will probably build my first gaming PC from scratch, which means I'll have to buy everything new (read: it will be kinda expensive).

If I'm getting VR within the next 12 months it will be through PlayStation VR, since that is the easiest path for me. Outside of that, I'm here thinking "That's cool tech, I can't justify right now." Hopefully by that point the software will be more fleshed out and who knows there might be a Vive 2/Rift 2 to make VR more tempting than it is right now.

If I had too much money on my hands, I'd very tempted to pick up Vive after the last stream. My current appartment could actually be ideal for it, because despite being kinda small, it's basically just one giant living room. Though I'd probably have more trouble with tripping over my cat...

But if we forget about the fact that I get easily excited over fancy new things, I'd probably wait to see how PSVR turns out.

After the Rift stream I was a bit hesitant on VR even having watched many youtube videos. The lackluster reactions of the GB crew was in contrast to the "you gotta try this to get it" opinions you see everywhere. However the Vive stream was a different animal, I seem to remember many times where "oh cool" "this is nuts" reactions were expressed. I had pre-ordered a Vive (scheduled for May delivery) based on youtuber's videos and my reaction to room scale and hand controllers being a big step up. I will keep my pre-order in place. I am lucky to have a decent space to play with the Vive in, I think I can work it to at least 12ft by 12 ft or so and that is just under 4 meters a side so it should be ok.

I was already set at waiting at least a year for prices to go down, and the streams didn't really change my mind. It was good to see the tech very much being there for both headsets, but I'm also really interested in seeing what other Vive/openVR compatible headsets pop up and if anything else will offer an adequate experience at a more affordable price point. PSVR seems like it'll be doing something like that, and I would consider getting a PS4 for that, but I'd rather stick with PC if that's an option at a price point I could afford. I'd also love to see a resurgence in homebrew VR like there was in the 90's, and Valve's cooperation with the OSVR community could result in some interesting stuff in that vein and potentially or at least hopefully, something in the vein of Google Cardboard for PC's.

As it is, Vive had a moderately better launch line-up than the Oculus Rift but Vive's unique selling point - the room-scale stuff - is something I could never engage with, as I live in a one bedroom apartment where I couldn't possibly get enough floor space to use that feature unless I use it on the balcony.

All I really want is a lag-free stereoscopic headset with proper head-tracking, and it seems like all three of the big ones will offer that.

I wasn't interested at all, and the Rift stream confirmed that apathy for me as it just seemed like an utterly pointless addition that would waste processing power on something completely superfluous. Then the Vive stream made VR seem badass.

I am more likely to buy a VR headset thanks to the streams.

My opinion isn't represented by any of the above options.

I 100% agree with this. Out of the two, Vive definitely seems to have more to offer. I still won't get any for a long time, though just do to budgetary constraints and lack of space to actually utilize it.
