Telltale Adventures Onto XBLA With Wallace & Gromit

Posted by Brad (3259 posts) -

I haven't put nearly as much time into the titles made by Telltale Games as they deserve--primarily the latter-day Sam & Max games, as well as the new Strong Bad stuff--but the fact that those guys and gals are doing well for themselves making adventure games in two-thousand and nine is so heartwarming I don't even know where to begin. Ryan is especially fond of their work from a more hands-on perspective, for what it's worth.

Anyway! Their next big release is Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, based of course on the delightful British stop-motion man-and-dog pair you may have seen on TV or film. The company sent out a note today that we can expect Wallace & Gromit "this spring," and not just on the PC, but on Xbox Live Arcade for the first time. Telltale's stuff is very mouse-driven, which has made it a natural fit for WiiWare, but I'll be interested to see how they adapt to the Xbox thumb sticks. The wording in the press release makes it sound like Sam & Max and Strong Bad may also hit Live Arcade at some point--or it may simply indicate that more of the company's future games will also come to the service. Time will tell!

In a last generous gesture, Telltale is offering a free episode of Sam & Max or Strong Bad if you sign up for their newsletter. So if you're curious to see how it is they do what they do, now you've got a pretty easy way to find out.

Any Telltale fans in the house? Chime in!

Yeah, Telltale's great. Even though they kinda ripped me off, I still love them.

Telltale fan chiming in. Infact, I uploaded those screenshots literally five minutes or so after they went live. Plus I wrote all of the Wiki page for W&G!

Ah, I have high hopes for this! The Sam and Max series rocks, can't wait to see how W&G pans out.

Cracking cheese, Gromit!

ah I love Wallace and Gromit! pity it's on arcade though with the power of the 360 and ps3 you could get the plasticine look right, the noticable fingerprints are part of it's charm and why it trumps pixars super polished look in my opinion! Oh and will it come with some free wensleydale? :D

Wallace and Gromit are great, I could see some really interesting adventure games come out of this.

And having Telltale Games attached to the project is a huge plus.

Sweet! More free stuff.

And I planned on trying Sam & Max for money eventually anyway.

Wallace & Gromit is a very suitable ip for them to work with.

I'm a little cheesed.  I thought these guys made games for the ol' Macintosh too, so I signed up for the freebie.

Bummed, is what I am now.

I can't seem to get the freebie. Signed up for the newsletter, now what?

So, do I get to go to the moon for cheese?

#24 Posted by emily_ttg (1 posts) -

Pepper, you should have seen a "which game do you want?" page after you registered. If you send an email to support@telltalegames.com, someone can look into it for you.

Everyone else - thanks for all the nice comments about Telltale's games!

This Is very exciting news, especially the part about the them possibly putting Strong Bad & Sam and Max on XBLA, as i played the first season of S&M but couldn't get to the 2nd cause i switched to a Linux box . So here's hoping they go through with that.

#26 Posted by Relys (984 posts) -

I fucking love Wallace & Gromit.

#27 Posted by deaux (233 posts) -

This is good news, though I'll probably play it on the PC anyway.  I like their games a lot, but they aren't really scratching the same itch as the great adventure games of yore.

#28 Posted by MattOnTheSite (96 posts) -

I thought the Strong Bad games were good but could have been better.
I wish to play Sam and Max when I get a computer that can run it...

Telltale are excellent. No idea how the general XBL crowd will react to their games, but hopefully it turns out alright.
