WarCraft: II Battle.net edition included the classic campaigns from WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness and it's expansion; Beyond the Dark Portal. The game also features improved compatibility with the windows platform and multiplayer through Blizzard's Battle.net online service.
Warcraft 2 the tides of darkness was released in 1996 by Blizzard.  Tides of darkness takes place 6 years after the first game and the Orcs have decided to conquer the lands to the north and acquire Lordaeron for their empire.  Eventually, the armies of the Alliance pressed into Azeroth and laid waste to the Orcish main base at Blackrock Spire, a battle in which the Alliance lost Lord Anduin Lothar, their military commander. The final battle was fought at the Dark Portal, the gateway between Azeroth and the Orcish homeworld Draenor.  Most of the game's units on the two sides are immediate counterparts to each other, so if the alliance had units with crossbows the orks have units that throw axes.
