40k MMO sounded interesting. 40k single player focused game w/ multiplayer component? Didn't we just recently get that with Space Marine?
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online
Game » consists of 0 releases.
Set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Dark Millennium was under development by Vigil Games with a release window of Q1 2014. Following THQ's bankruptcy filing and subsequent asset auction in 2013, the development and release of Dark Millennium was effectively canceled.
Warhammer 40K MMO is No Longer a Warhammer 40K MMO, Layoffs Hit Relic and Vigil
Hopefully THQ (or at least the major studios it owns) will get some financial assistance sooner rather than later. I'd hate for so many talented people to be screwed over by someone else's bad investment.
WOW Relic?
Fuck you THQ. You were quickly redeeming yourself as the scrappy underdog that actually cared about PCs, now your mistakes will impact future games I was going to play and enjoy?
Those executives who were responsible better be stripped of their post.
Man. That's heartbreaking. Relic has been responsible for some of my favourite Warhammer games. Admittedly, I'm not a huge MMO-type person, so this change is maybe preferable. I could be okay with Space Marine + loot and RPG mechanics. Still, I hope everyone who's being let go lands on their feet.

Nooooooooooooo. I need a 3rd Darksiders! Let's all buy two copies each of Darksider 2!
I knew something bad was going on at Relic. They haven't announced a new game.
That couldn't have anything to do with, oh I don't know, the fact that they shipped a game in September? They aren't a huge studio, they can only release so many games at a time.
Honestly, I feel that this news is better than the result of a 40K MMO would have been. Making it a single player game means I'm far more likely to play it. They won't have to worry about ongoing server costs or competing with ToR or WoW. Its incredibly unfortunate that people had to be let go, but I can't see a future where a 40K MMO wouldn't have tanked incredibly hard.
You know I would kill to see? A Warhammer 40k game made in the style of those old Full Spectrum Warrior games. Just thinking about it makes me crazy.

Slowly but sure, THQ is falling apart.
Brought down to it's knees by this...
To be fair, the Wii sold fine from what I've heard. It's the X360 and PS3 tablets that is killing THQ.
Sad to see people lose their jobs. Not so much on the Warhammer 40k game changing from an MMO to a single player game.
GB didn't have a picture of the 360/ps3 version. At least not one that their search option gave me.

I just want Mass Effect style game/adaptation of the Eisenhorn books. <3
An MMO turned into a regular game. I'm sure that will do well. Hopefully they are just shifting the story and assets. Otherwise... Ugh. Anyway, that sux for THQ... Somebody send them some flowers or something, they need it.
Relic and Vergil didn't deserve to get laid off...the last games they have made weren't blockbusters but were still pretty good (Darksiders and Space Marine). Relic also has Dawn of War 2 which is my favorite RTS other than Company of Heroes. I mean those guys really made great tactical and terrain-focused RTS games wherein the battlefield itself would dynamically change over time as a match progressed. I enjoy their games more compared to Starcraft which I find to be more fun as a spectator rather than a player. I hope those guys laid off would be able to a land another job soon.
Oh well... there goes my most anticipated MMO... So I have to put my hopes in "The Secret World"... And we all know how this might end, judging by Funcom's track record so far...
I feel bad for the people who lost their jobs :/
especially at Relic. they are a good company that makes good games.
(also they're canadian)

I know :(
I heard from a couple of people (and Jeff) that GW2 wasn't as amazing as it looked, which Fing suuuuucks, because the only thing that will get me back into MMOs is something very different.
I don't actually think Secret World looks that great, I don't get why everyone thinks it does. Is there a video or something I missed?
Even so Age of Conan was my last Funcom game (I was so excited for that game, and it started great) but man they really let you down.
I doubt it'll ever actually come out, and it sucks for Relic to be losing people, but I'd take a single player RPG set in 40K over yet another shit sandwich of an MMO ANYDAY.
I swear, if this shit impacts Vigil to the point of impairing/jeopardizing Darksiders 2, while Dudebro McDouche FPS No. 37 rakes in the millions, what point is there in gaming anymore?
Sure, why not? The MMO part was always going to end up being the worst part of them game, so removing it might push the whole project in a better direction.
