E3 2011: Wii U Reveal Trailer
I don't understand why they are showing what are essentially Wii games on it. Mixed messages aren't good.
ok that looks pretty cool. hopefully they actually get games that are worth playing on the system that aren't just nintendo produced games.
I don't have to agree with that.Okay, you gotta admit, all that stuff is really cool.
So stereotypical........Hernandez is on the mound.
I think this whole thing is weak sauce.
Nintendo brings out the wii and motion gaming is all the rage. Microsoft and Sony follow suit. Now Nintendo makes a console that focuses on the peripheral maybe not so much for motion controls, but including the monitor in the controller. Essentially making a controller........a controller again.
Does this just mean that we are headed toward a larger handheld ala DSIXL that will communicate with a base station on your tv in the long run?
It's very reminiscent of airplay being used to push content from an Ipad to an Apple TV.
Some of its capabilities are neat, but thats not enough to get me to buy this. Feel like I'm too old to care about this and I'm only 24.
I want to shoot my self as many times in the head as I can while watching this video. The most utterly insane shit I've ever seen. I mean, this is like if you took the Balance Board, Vitality Sensor, PS Move, and Kinect, the 3D of the 3DS, and the Wiimote and put it into a single misguided wonder of technology.
I mean, tilt controls and touch screens have their place... But 99% of the time I'm still playing games with a controller / mouse and keyboard.
I don't want toys, I want games. I wanna play Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, Red Dead, Grand Theft Auto, Witcher. Not utter bullshit variety game packs. Sure, they'll have the one Mario or Zelda game that's just amazing... but I'm not going to buy into that if I only have those to look forward to.
I want so badly to believe this will be great after being a little burned by the Wii. We'll just have to see what there is to offer as we get closer to release.
This explains it all. Click here if it doesn't animate.
Their messages seem to be all over the shop on this - is it enough of a jump for the hardcore but not enough for parents to shell out the dosh all over again?
The adverts look like it is just a tablet screen for the current Wii, playing similar looking games and using the same controllers.
@TiE23: Someone's gruuuuumpyyyy. ;)
Anyway, this will sell gangbusters to the Wii crowd... IF they can set it apart in their heads. People already think the 3DS is just a DS with 3D and not a hardware upgrade. Unless they market this thing just right, people will think it's just a Wii with a tablet. That could spell DISASTER for Nintendo.
As for the "hardcore"? No chance in hell will this win them over. A 360 controller this hulking thing isn't. The name alone would probably turn them away. Nintendo is kidding themselves if they think this will win 360/PS3 gamers back.
Looking forward to seeing the price and included peripherals.
Like I've said before, this seems to gimmicky. My problem isn't with the hardware. I actually think it's kind of cool in an insane sort of fantastic way. My problem is that they probably won't have anything on the console that I WANT TO PLAY. Or, rather, nothing that I want to play that I won't prefer to play on one of the other consoles. So far, Nintendo's only real content (except on the DS) has always been "another mario... another zelda... another mario... another zelda" with a lot of shovelware mixed in from third parties. I'd like to see them get out there and stop making a career out of just the same two franchises. Then, maybe I'd be stoked for this.

This is gonna be awesome! Taking your controller on the go is an idea I'm surprised hasn't been done earlier.
You can't take it anywhere. It has to stay in range of the console.
Glad to see Nintendo are still whimsically insane.
Now we just need to find out if their willy wonka madness pad can run crysis or whatever
I feel like I should be excited but without seeing some games, price, clear release date, etc. it's hard to care. I feel like we've been here before when the Revolution was first announced. It seemed so amazing at the time. And it was, in some ways. But when I look at the Wii collecting dust I get this "fool me once" kind of feeling. I want to believe but for now I'm just skeptical. I'm sure Nintendo will prove me wrong and take my money in no time.
