I personally reckon they'll do this easily, what do you think?
The Wii U goes on sale in North America on November 18th and is due to arrive in Europe on November 30th. Japan won’t get the Wii U until December 8th.

That ssems ridiculous. Especially since I've yet to see any commercials.
Thats still from just a day or two ago and in the U.K. only. I'm the U.S. and I've yet to see any ads.

Anyone have that Nintendo printing money gif?
Today's not a good day for that gif, for today they reported a loss of 27.9 billion yen / £219m, thanks to the weakening yen. It's less of a loss than they reported for the same period last year.
I expect that gif will be used frequently in the ensuing months after launch though.
They will do it. How does that compare with the Wiis launch? God damn Nintendo putting out hardware when the current consoles are old enough to be my mother. How could it not sell at this point?
I don't know. When my sister saw the PSVita in a shop her reaction was "Isn't that just the PSP, what's so different about it?" The wii appealed to a lot of families and a more casual audience, I feel like they'll have the same reaction to the WiiU. "I already have the Wii, why do I need this?" I don't see better controls and graphics as a big selling point for them.
I'd like to revisit this thread in March and see how their predictions panned out. I'm not willing to call it one way or the other yet.

I think you mean the weakening of the dollar.
Sounds to me like I should just wait until next xmas to get it, they're bound to go down in price right? riiiiiiiiiight?
No way. I don't think Nintendo will do as well as they did with the Wii, but who knows, I'll probably totally wrong and they could hit their target and then some. Will be interested to check back on this thread in March.
That seems like way to much to me but I'm no business expert and nintendo always seem to pull something out the bag
I've got no clue how well it will sell, but I know a ton of people that were full-hype mode for the Wii and haven't even mentioned the Wii U.
I'm very curious as to how well this thing is going to sell. I was going to buy one, but there's nothing in the launch line-up that intrigues me enough to want to buy one at launch. I'll almost certainly end up getting one eventually, though.
I seriously doubt this. I mean, it comes out in a couple of weeks, and no one seems to give half a shit. I think the casual audience which loved the Wii so much won't be impressed by the Wii U, and even a little confused. The price is also a bit high. However, I still hope it sells and is successful.
I'm in no way qualified to make a judgement about how many they will sell, but I will say this: I think the WiiU is going to perform much worse than Nintendo needs it to. If they are hoping to replicate the sales magic of the Wii, I think they are going to be disappointed. I hope, of course, that I am wrong. Nintendo needs this to work, and I would hate to see that company continue to be in trouble.

Nintendo also predicted to sell 4 Million 3DS's in the first month.

If they can make that many, I think they'll do it, the price is right for the Wii crowd to come back out for more.
I don't think it will do well with the gamer crowd but they probably don't even need them which has pretty much been the case since n64.
Only time will tell, sir! ...I wouldn't be surprised if they get 5.5 million. They'll at least come close. I'm gonna say at least 5 mil.@TooWalrus said:
Never bet against Nintendo...I'm betting against Nintendo! Families with Wii's won't see a need to upgrade to the Wii U, at least not for quite awhile.
people seem to naysay ninty like i naysay apple. i remember when i first saw the ipad, scoffed at it for being a jumbo itouch and deemed it would be a colossal failure. months later i was eating crow.
i'm pretty sure this and the ipad mini will sell like hotcakes.
I guess they are going to lose money on every console.

@solarisdeschain: No, I certainly don't mean to be. Nintendo has posted losses for two consecutive quarters. That's not a good thing for any company. I think that the Wii happened at just the right time for it to become a huge mainstream hit. I don't know if the Wii U has the same mass appeal. That's admittedly just my opinion, but I don't think it qualifies as "dramatic."
Besides, like I said, I hope I'm wrong. I would love to see the Wii U be a huge success, but nothing I have seen so far has convinced me that it will. Time will tell, right?
