The Nintendo Wii U, the follow-up to the monstrously popular Nintendo Wii console, launched in North America on November 18th 2012.
Wii U supposedly less powerful than 360 and PS3

@DefaultProphet: Seriously. Separate rumors have all stated that the Wii U is either less powerful, more powerful, or on par with the PS3/360. There is so much misinformation floating about from a variety of supposedly "reliable" sources that there is absolutely no way to tell what is fact from fiction at this juncture.

The Wii was barely more powerful than a Pentium 3 PC I had back in 2003. I still play my Wii. That PC is gone.
I'm sorry your PC left ya Claude. It was a whore anyway. Just focus on you and your Wii's relationship and making the best dam time of it that you can.

It's not the power that matters, but what you do with it.
exactly, it doesn't matter how weak the console is if most of the games are shovel ware anyway
Probably because it's true? Just a thought
I hope this is true. I know a few ninentdo fanboys that have pretty much been telling everyone they know that the wii u is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. One guy is telling people it will be 7 times more powerful than 360 or PS3 and will have 8 gigs or RAM. Idiot.

You guys should step off and respect the Claude!
There is shovelware everywhere. I'm sure Kinect games are top of the line though. And Move..seems to have moved on. I know what I'm looking for and I've found a ton of great Wii games. I'm still buying the ones I missed.@Claude said:

That's the thing. If people are worried about power and graphics, buy a PC and be done with it. If you want to play Nintendo software on a Nintendo console finally in HD, buy the Wii U or whatever it's going to be called. Hell, even PC people are playing Nintendo games on their PC.@Claude said:

I hope the graphics are improved over this gen, but more important to me is whether the can fix the online shopping experience and whether I can move over my virtual console games. I would be fine with a less powerful Nintendo console if it's user friendly and has great Nintendo games.
I could see it happening, and it not really mattering. Wii's graphics wern't leaps and bounds over the original xbox's graphics. They took a risk, and capitalized on their target audience. I don't see any reason as to why they'd want to do anything outside of affordable, and creative once again.

So at this stage, with all the combined facts(?) laid out in front of us, we are indeed able to confirm that the Wii U is in fact, a console.
I dunno, I still think that it's still a little too early to be sure.

It's been the same argument since Nintendo started making systems. Anyone who thinks the next thing Nintendo puts out will 'be different this time' is mistaken. You already know what the system will do, how many exclusives it will get and how it will innovate the competitors into a corner.

Yeah. As long as they pump out good games, I don't see the issue of the system not being very powerful.

I was just talking about the Dolphin emulator mostly. I've never used it, but people on these boards seem to like it. But I'm sure someone will create more emulators, no doubt. I'll just stick to the console versions.@Claude said:

I believe that is sound advice. What's the over-under on the first Wii U emulator being out before the first Wii U Zelda game?
I think matching the 360s power would be Nintendo's best bet if they want to make money off each console sale. If it falls behind hardware that was dated back in 2005 then even if it handles multiplatform titles that are on ps3 and 360, what's the point if it is the worst version?

'Cause we all know the 360 and PS3 are completely free of crappy 3rd party games. Not to mention the spectacular Kinect and Move libraries.
My assumption would be that the power of the console is about equal if not slightly greater than the 360 or PS3, but those advantages are nerfed by having to output to a tablet screen as well. Depending on the resolution of the tablet screen the Wii could feasibly have to produce two 720p images at the same time which would make the image on either screen inferior to what you'd get if you were outputting to a single screen. It would be similar to outputting every game in 3D, or if the tablet is maybe 480p then you'd require about 1.5x the power not a full 2x. Developers could just put simple graphics on the touch screen at which point the hit wouldn't be too great, but if they want to put console quality graphics on the tablet screen they would risk losing a lot of fidelity on the TV screen.

I think the issue with shovelware is only a problem when it reaches a critical mass. Once you shovel so much the good gets buried. I have tried to find copies of games that I heard were good like Zack and Wiki, Boom Blox, and Little Kings Story. I can't find them (or rather, couldn't find them at release or a few months afterwards) because the stores don't buy new wii games unless it's a proven seller because they have so much shovelware that didn't sell. Without stores buying them how can they become proven sellers? It's a viscous cycle. No one's saying Kinect and Move games aren't shovelware, but they haven't reached a critical mass that makes purchasing good 360 or PS3 games difficult.

what site is that and why do we care? its nintendo, Not sony.. I buy Nintendo for the fun, not the graphics.. I have more games on the wii i want to buy and play then on 360 and ps3 combined not because they look better but they look like more fun. Also, its a handheld / console so dont put it as the Next Ultra Console.

@Lazyaza: If you haven't noticed, the weakest console has won in every single generation except for the Snes in terms of sales.
I do not buy Nintendo consoles these days for third party support so the only thing I really want from the next Nintendo system is HD capability. I buy Nintendo for the first party stuff and will probably continue to do so since that is the way it has been with Nintendo pretty much since the SNES.

That's only true to a certain extent... Already some games have maxed out their respective consoles and you can easily see that it's occasionally not enough. To release a console with lower specs then a 6 year old console is completely retarded.
