Nintendo console launched in November 2006. It focuses on motion-based controls.
History
The Successor to the GameCube, the Wii was first a completely unknown platform and was simply referred to as "N5", standing for Nintendo's fifth console. It was eventually revealed at E3 2005 and dubbed, Revolution. Many things were apparently missing from the presentation, the games, graphics, power, or basically any information at all, especially the controller, which was given a specific mentioning as being something revolutionary, hence it's code name. Speculation was rampant all over the internet and famously many people created fake looking controllers and many hoaxes were common. The same thing happened regarding the look of the revolution before E3 2005. Finally in September 2005, the controller was revealed and a video showing players using motion controls. This set the gaming industry on fire and many arguments and confusion over this lasted a long time. More was revealed slowly and not until E3 2006 were most of the games shown. The revealing that the console had an odd name, "Wii" was revealed a month before E3 so as to get the massive reaction to the strange name out of the way and also so that they could focus on more important things without any distractions at E3. The Wii eventually was released on November 2006 and became a huge success. Wii's are still sold out today, a record for any gaming console in history.
Nintendo have sold more Wii's than Xbox 360 and PS3 put toghter.
