...until 19th October 2009 you can buy World of Goo for any price you want, except zero dollars.  EDIT: Extended to 25th October!

World of Goo is 1 year old today! How time flies… the 2DBOYs are so proud!

To celebrate the occasion, we thought we’d try a fun experiment – starting today and ending on October 19, you can buy World of Goo at whatever price you like – one cent, a million dollars, the usual twenty, or any creative number they let you type into the text field.  If you played and liked the game but hadn’t yet paid for it, this is your chance at redemption!

Just go here: http://2dboy.com/games.php (server is a bit slow)
So, what is the game worth to you? I bought it on a Steam Sale for 10€, and thats is a reasonable price according to me.

I didn't like the demo so I won't be downloading it. It'll be interesting to see what the majority of people pay for it. There will obviously be loads of people who won't pay.
I think it was on the Rum Doings that they were talking about when Radiohead did this, so this will be cool to see.

World of Goo was fantastic.  I really hope some people pay for this.  2DBOY should get paid for making such an enjoyable game.

This is awesome! I bought the wii version on day one, it will be nice to have it on my laptop too.  I'm thinking I'll pay... 5 dollars...maybe? Ack, paying one cent is so tempting.

I'd buy it for $.01, but it's Paypal and my Paypal is empty. Eh... the game isn't even worth that much, really. I thought it was pretty ass.

World of Goo was my GOTY 2008. If I was a paypal user I think I'd donate a little cash to 2DBoy.

And another good attempt at making people pay for software other than pitiful "anti-piracy" measures.

@Emandudeguyperson: I'm not sure about games, but some musicians have been trying it with their CDs.  Maybe the gaming community is different if they have to pay, but I'm not sure the culture is there to support this kind of system yet.  Maybe in a decade or so when people get used to the idea that they're supporting artists directly...

Stop being stingy pricks. You're happy to spend $60 on the next generic FPS but not $5 or $10 on a fantastic indie game?

This game had a 90% piracy rate, so fuck the people who are paying 1cent. I'm budget gaming right now and I would at least pay more than a fucking cent (already bought the game a while ago though).

If your gonna pay something, at least pay a dollar. I'm sure you can save at least that much in a day.

This should not have to happen, but if it gets the game out to more people then good for them.

That's fairly lax of them to do this. It's worth the 20 though, if you're willing to pay for it anyway.

Ah yes, World of Goo.  Oh how all other gaming stopped for me until I beat that game.  Not only was the gameplay enjoyable, but man that sign painter was great.  Had to read every single one of those things.  If I remember right there were some hidden messages in some levels.

Anyone's who's interested, Kotaku posted the results of the experiment.  nearly 17,000 people paid a whopping $0.01 to paypal for the game (since Paypal took all the money which didn't even cover the fees).

My wife picked this up on Big Fish two months ago for $6.99, so no need to buy again.

I'm surprised that 4 people bought it for $50.  Must have money to burn.

I would think that $5 would be the ideal price to buy it at nowadays.

This is pretty neat. I actually bought it for $15 on Virtual Console for the Wii. While I do think it's a good game, I thought $15 was a little steep. Still, I hope this goes well for them and that people don't all pay the minimum 1 cent for it.

I picked it up and I had this weird internal battle where my cheapness and my love of games fought over what price I should get it for. The love won and I paid $15 for it, definitly worth the price and I dont need to feel dirty for only paying 1 cent. Also props to them for making a Linux version of the game, its the only game I have on my computer so its gonna get a lot of playtime in the near future
