Yup.  I got banned from World of Warcraft and I've only had it for three days.  Actually it's safer to say that whoever was kind enough to hack my account got me banned.  Thankfully I was only using a trial card and whoever did it does not have my credit card information.

EDIT:  I've gotten my account back.  Turns out I wasn't hacked, a group of people just thought it would be funny to report the new guy for spamming the chat channel.

Having had an account hacked, but not banned, they're pretty good about it. You call customer support (or maybe account services) and they just ask you some security questions to make sure you're really you. It happens all the time so the process is fairly streamlined.

They're extremely efficient about restoring hacked accounts. Officer in our guild got hacked, they took the whole guild bank along with all his toon's junk. We had everything back the way it was in about two days.

Weird, I've played off-and-on for 3 years now and never had a problem. Just to make sure it never happens again, just get your addons through Curse, then  you don't have to worry about them causing problems.

Indeed. consider yourself lucky you haven't become one of "them". I had a trial of WoW and all I got from the people on there was a barrage of abuse, mainley cosisting of "Fuck you trial account" or things along those lines but in L33t speak. Fuck 'em.

If its a trial account then just make a new one. What kind of idiot hacks a trial account anyways, jesus crist they must be desperate.

Blizzard is very good when it comes to dealing with accounts being hacked, just not so much after you have been hacked a few times. Thats when they start thinking they want to tell you to fuck off. If you did get hacked then odds are you have a keylogger on your pc. As far as I know they cant even get your full account(credit card, ect) info unless they are in deep on YOUR PC.

9/10 times if you get hacked on WoW its because you have done something stupid.

Curse is not reliable, they should be last resort and you should scan anything you download from them before you use it. They often have rogue adds on the website also.

Well, my first time just put me off forever, looked like it could have been a lot of fun but just couldn't disassociate playing the game from being bullied by crazy uber-hostile, maniacal and territorial lemons. Maybe if I'd gotten in at the start it would have been different but unfortunately I'm just done with it now.

I have a friend who, everytime he gets his account back from Blizzard (which apparently takes a long time he waits like sometimes up to a month) it gets hacked again within the next week. It's to the point where he doesn't play anymore because he's pissed off with the hackers. It's weird though because when he got his account back once, his character had amazing gear and was level 80. lol

Do the people that get hacked just keep using whatever they were using while they got hacked? I freak the fuck out and format my drive and go barebones regarding any addons or apps that I'm not sure about. Then I continue changing all my passwords to really complicated ones. Even then I don't ever feel like I did enough to prevent anything from happening.

Curse is reliable. I'm pretty sure there site warns you to make sure the file your downloading doesn't have a hidden .exe ending and to be weary of what you download. And as long as you take a glance at the comments and make sure you don't download a mod that isn't too popular and has less than a few hundred d/l's.

It's not hard. They just take the last armory update before your account was hacked and they'll restore it for you.

Hackings are better now than they were a year ago. Seemed like everyone knew someone who was hacked. Most of it was through keyloggings, meaning people were surfing sites where they weren't supposed to be. Bottom line, merge your account with Battle.net and get an authenticator. It's that simple.

@Br3adfan: Ouch, that sucks. Well, Blizzard tends to be pretty good about getting this sort of stuff sorted out. In the future, if you plan to keep playing, snag yourself a Battle.Net authenticator. What that does is after inputting your password, it will ask for a series of numbers that can only be obtained by whatever you're using to authenticate your account with (They have a free iPhone/iPod Touch app or an actual physical device for it) using a wi-fi connection. Hackers, no more.

Ok, you didn't get hacked, you either gave your password out to someone or you have a keylogger. If a person was capable of hacking anyone they wanted they wouldn't hack a 3-day old trial account, they would probably look up the hiscores and start from there.

i think that you just got saved from one of the worst gaming communities around.  and from what you told me, which i will not disclose to the public,, sounds like you might have gotten yourself banned. hahaha     but what you did should not constitute a ban. its just the people who play WoW are so touchy most of the time that they complain if anything bad happens to them. anyways, think of it as a free ticket back into the social world

If you have an iphone you should get the blizzard authenticator application. Linking this to your account makes it a lot harder(if not impossible?) for someone to log into your account. You could of course buy the physical authenticator, the the iphone app is free.

    @Br3adfan:

Whoever hacked your account saved you from wasting valuable time.

Maybe you should see this as a second chance to live in the real world. Fate seemed to do you a favor.

I got my account back, I guess some people just thought it would be fun to flag the noob for spamming (the reason I got banned for).

Anyway, my friend just got hacked for the third time and lost all of his level 80 gear.  I think it's safe to say I am done with World of Warcraft after my free month is up.

@Br3adfan: Why? You're probably just having bad luck. Hacking is pretty rare these days.
A while back a guy I know was hacked by chinese gold farmers. When he finally got his account back he found tons of valuable things in his bags and bank, including a lot of gold that the hackers had farmed. Hacking isn't always negative.

A trail account being hacked? Who cares.....

I don't even know who would bother going to the trouble, its not like your characters or items are worth anything.
Also Trial accounts are free to set up so its not like the "hackers" can't already make themselves another free account.

I doubt the honesty and authenticity of this post.

Agreed. You got a free get out of WoW card, don't squander it.
