I have this feeling this movie is going to be gritty and dark now.

Hopefully that would mean it turns out half decent.

I honestly don't know who any of these people are other than Ben Foster.

#53 Posted by radioactivez0r (846 posts) -

How do so many of you not know who Ben Foster is?

#54 Posted by galloughs (192 posts) -

I've literally never heard of any of those people

#55 Posted by geirr (2563 posts) -

So looking forward to this even if I dumped the game years ago!

#56 Posted by LarryDavis (972 posts) -

Man, when I saw 3:10 in the theater I thought Ben Foster was going to be the next big thing.

I hope everyone has some ketchup ready to eat their hat when this thing blows up and turns out to be an amazing film. If Duncan Jones can make a movie based on Jake Gyllenhaal doing a groundhog day to stop a train from blowing up, then he will easily be able to create a strong movie franchise for Warcraft.

Also, the story is great, and will surely set up future ones.

Is it terrible that I'd actually like to see a Starcraft movie?

Nah. If it was done right I think a starcraft movie could be decent.

#59 Posted by Khann (2850 posts) -

Ben Foster has been fantastic in everything I've seen him in, Fimmel is great in Vikings, and Paula Patton is pretty decent also.

I really enjoyed both Moon and Source Code, so overall things are looking pretty good to me.

Still disappointed they couldn't get Uwe Boll to direct what is definitely gonna be a cinematic masterpiece.

Haha.

Why the hell not? I can't foresee this movie NOT tanking, so might as well go the whole nine yards and get the best director for the job.

On the off chance I'm wrong, someone can correct me in three years.

#61 Posted by TheStimpinator (106 posts) -

I believe in Duncan Jones, and I would love to see Ben Foster in a strong lead role. Pleeeeeaaaase let this be good.

#62 Posted by Broomhitches (173 posts) -

Wait, I could've sworn I saw something that said Colin Farrell had a role. He supposedly also read the script and was saying how cool it was.

Ben Foster has come a long way since Freaks and Geeks.

Well, he did start out full-retard. Nowhere to go but up!

#64 Posted by WuTangFinancial (10 posts) -

Its been said but I'll just say it again. The movie is not a World of Warcraft movie. The story takes place around the time of Orcs vs Humans and Tides of Darkness, about 30-40 years before WoW starts. This setting could make an interesting movie, I think. Orcs are rolling all over the Eastern Kingdoms, and the first "Alliance" is formed between the Humans, High Elves, and Dwarves and proceeded to kick some Orc butt.

#65 Posted by Assirra (99 posts) -

I still say that the trilogy of "Tales of the Past" is the best you will ever get as a WoW movie. Hope to prove me wrong but i don't have a good feeling about it.

#66 Posted by ShadowConqueror (3051 posts) -

I like Ben Foster but I don't know the others. I hope it's not terrible.

#67 Posted by Korolev (1706 posts) -

I wish this film wasn't being made - that way, Duncan Jones could spend his time making films that actually are interesting. He's a good director, actually he's a great director, but I think he is wasting his time on this film.

#68 Edited by Karkarov (3102 posts) -

... why is this happening? If you need proof Satan exists look no further than the fact that this movie is actually being made.

#71 Edited by Shaunage (708 posts) -

Am I crazy? I'm pretty sure Duncan Jones dropped out as director ~2 weeks ago.

EDIT: Apparently I made that up. A quick Google search tells me he's still on.

#72 Posted by JeffGoldblum (3704 posts) -

@wutangfinancial: KOTOR takes places thousands of years before the events of the star wars films would you say that it is not a star wars game?

#73 Posted by TooWalrus (13197 posts) -

What, there's a World of Warcraft movie now?

#74 Posted by Cybexx (1170 posts) -

No one big, which is not unusual for a genre film I guess.

The Blizzcon panel convinced me that this movie has the right people behind it. Turning that talent into a great movie is another task entirely but it is not a Hollywood cash-in.

Duncan Jones is a great director who understands the universe. The VFX Director is very familiar with WoW. Blizzard is heavily involved with Chris Metzen overseeing story and the Blizzard cinematic department handling concept art. I am not sure what a great Warcraft movie is but these guys think they've figured it out.

#75 Posted by Spakkle (15 posts) -

This Movie is called "Warcraft" NOT World of Warcraft. The movie is based off the Orc vs Human storyline of the first Warcraft games, the strategy ones. Characters we'll probably see are: Medivh, Khadgar, Lothar, Durotan, Doomhammer, Gul'dan, Turalyon, and Alleria. IMO this story is the best direction to go with the movie, and I'm looking forward to it.

Only reason I'll watch this is because I have full faith in Duncan Jones. Watch Moon if you haven't.

Agreed. Truly an emotionally compelling and beautiful movie. Highly underrated, or at least underwatched.

#77 Posted by WuTangFinancial (10 posts) -

@jeffgoldblum: I don't really get your point. The plot of the movie is about the first two Warcraft games, you know, the RTS games. Calling it the WoW movie, when it is not, only adds unnecessary cynicism. To expand on to your example, it would be like calling the Empire Strikes Back, the "KOTOR movie." Sure they both take place in the same universe, and both are Star Wars, but they are very different things. I hope they can pull it off, but I'm always skeptical of video game movies.

@budwyzer: I'm watching that. I don't care whose in it... I'm down.

You say that as if Chris Metzen being involved in story these days is a good thing.

Thinking about HOTS still gives me nightmares.

Only two I've heard of/remembered in their films or TV shows are Ben Foster (awesome in 3:10) and Travis Fimmel (awesome in Vikings). Still...we'll see if this goes anywhere.

#81 Posted by kylekrane (62 posts) -

How do you NOT cast David Bowie as Khadgar in this?

#82 Posted by Shaka999 (475 posts) -

@fitzcarraldo: He directed Moon?

Well shit, this movie at the very least has my attention.

#83 Edited by SaturdayNightSpecials (2385 posts) -

This seems about as real as that Kane & Lynch movie right now (maybe less real, since didn't parts of the script for that leak? ), so I'm gonna keep assuming it will never be a thing.

#84 Posted by TobbRobb (4639 posts) -

That's one quality roster.

Hah.

#86 Edited by SharkEthic (1049 posts) -

I have no idea who any of these people are.

Minor Spoilers ahead:

The super clever part of this movie is the fact that almost every science fiction movies portray a computer AI as something sinister that can't be trusted (2001, Alien, War Games, etc.) But in Moon, the AI wants only to help. Throughout the whole movie you're constantly questioning the AI's motives and waiting for the moment when it's going to betray Sam. But it turns out the AI is a super cool dude and is the true hero of the movie.

Ben Foster was amazing in Alpha Dog. I am not interested in WOW whatsoever but the cast has my interest peaked for sure.

Jack Black as everyone.

#92 Posted by Salvation73 (2 posts) -

I'm just thankful that Sam (ruined an entire spider-man trilogy) Raimi isn't directing it anymore. Stick with Bruce Campbell and Army of Darkness 2 Sammy... we got this. Moon and Source Code were excellent, renews my faith in the project.

Not sure I have it in me to watch a 2 hour Blizzard cutscene even though they've always been the kings of great CGI, but I would go see this if it got the Mario Bros treatment. That could be amazing.

#98 Posted by Aarny91 (3912 posts) -

It's so weird that this is actually going forward now.

#99 Edited by JoelTGM (5596 posts) -

lol I play WoW still and love it, but a movie... come on, they're gonna fk it up.

#100 Posted by Daneian (1229 posts) -

I'm most interested in hearing what events happen in WoW when the film gets released.
