Overview

In this PlayStation game, the player is joined by the host of the TV show "World's Scariest Police Chases" as he guides them through the game's storyline, which consists of over 50 missions, and also has a free-roaming element to it, which is refered to as going on "patrol". There are various weapons in this game, which are mostly handguns and rifles, but there is also a rocket launcher that can be used.

Co-op Play

In this game, another player could join locally, where he would aim the weapon from the passenger's side of the vehicle, whilst his companion drives. The screen divides through the middle, horizontally, in the classic split-screen view.

Vehicles

There are 13 vehicles in total in this game, which include a standard patrol car, a 4x4, and a tank. These vehicles can take damage, however, and totalling your car will result in the game being over.

Campaign

The missions in this game mainly consist of the unnamed policeman in his vehicle chasing down the criminal until they are apprehended. In some, the criminal attempts to dump evidence, by throwing it out of the window, requiring the player to return to retreive the evidence in a time limit.

Graphics

For a PlayStation game, the graphics are not bad, but this game was brought out after the release of the PS2, meaning that in comparison to other games, it did not look pretty. Although, for a PS game, it was not bad compared to some others that had been made.

Gameplay

In the game, the driving isn't bad, and although there isn't as much physics in action as there are in modern racing games, you can still go into the air when you go off a ramp, and you can see how you've damaged the front of your car when you hit something with it, which isn't bad considering it's on a PS. Also, when you turn on your siren, the AI reacts to it, meaning the civilian cars around you part to give you way, though it also means that some are tempted to speed off, thinking that you are going to arrest them. Before you start your mission, though, you get to pick the weather, (where it's a choice of lightning, rain, sunny, day, night, and the such) which vehicle you'd like, and which mode you want to play in. There are 3 play modes. The first that you're likely to play is the Training mode. This is  basically like taking a driving test, where you're asked to navigate a maze of cones and perform tasks such as a 3-point turn, taking out targets, and completing the level before the time elapses. The second is Patrol, where you just go around, driving the streets, and generally messing about (as you're bound to do on this kind of sandbox game) and apprehending civilians who speed off when you turn on your sirens.

Pursuit is the meat of the game, however, as this is the main story mode of the game, where players begin with simple arrests to more and more complicated missions, such as tailing people until a specific point, taking criminals out, and collecting evidence before the allotted time runs out. After you've finished playing in whichever mode you chose, you are greeted with a page that displays your stats for the session, which includes number of shots fired, shots his, accuracy, criminals apprehended, time played, etc.... Which is handy for setting yourself personal targets for fun when playing with friends around (provided they're friends that do not mind the sacrifice in graphics from today's norm)

Conclusion

This game is much like the original Driver that came out on the PS, although it's from a policeman's point of view. The sandbox element of the game is remeniscient of the Grand Theft Auto games, as well.
