I don't know why you would think this game would break the series out of any ground. The controls have remained sub par for a long long time, and it's not setting out to do anything new there. Really, every fan of wrestling games has been SCREAMING for a grappling system that follows the N64 models from No Mercy, Wrestlemania 2K, and WCW/NWO Revenge. People have been saying, pretty much ever since No Mercy, that that is the model wrestling games should follow. It made for a more methodic wrestling game, it wasn't necessarily a spastic pace but that was just fine, and it allowed for a huge move set.
TNA Impact is said to be on a control scheme more similar to No Mercy and those styles, so that's one to watch. Unfortunately its limited roster and lack of modes will more than likely hold it back. I don't watch any wrestling anymore really, I fell out of that after the late 90's early 2000's when the WWE hit like a 6-8 year stride of quality characters and stories. That being said I still am craving another great wrestling game that can live up to the quality and longevity of No Mercy which just had everything down pat.
