Super Meat Boy.

Try the demo first though, and make sure the inevitable frustration doesn´t kill you (or your controller).

If you don't mind some arty trappings, Limbo and Braid are both great puzzle platformers.
Monday Night Combat is a great class-based third person shooter that is like Team Fortress combined with DotA.
Geometry Wars 2 is a fantastic dual stick shooter
Trials HD is technically just racing a dirt bike on a 2d path, but it is so much more fun than that sounds.  There is a reason that game has sold a kerjillion copies.

Might be a bit of stretch, but I really enjoy Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planewalker. It's great if your looking for something chilled. I have for the record never played the actual collectible card game. Splosion man also great.

Braid, Shadow Complex, Geometry Wars 2, Splosion Man, Trials HD, Super Meat Boy, and Castle Crashers are probably my favorite xbla games that I would recommend to almost anyone.  Lara Croft: GoL (for the co-op, maybe not if you want to play single player), Beyond Good & Evil HD, Mega Man 9, Limbo, Scott Pilgrim the game, and Monday Night Combat are some other good games I enjoy but may not be for everyone. That's a pretty good list of games to trial and see if you enjoy them.

  • Shadow Complex- If you like old Metroid/Castlevania games.
  • Plants vs Zombies- A very fun defense game, but controls better on PC and is cheaper.
  • Trials HD- If you like challenging score based games.
  • Limbo- Very atmospheric and awesome, but is short for $15.
  • Toy Soldiers- If you want a good Strategy game.
  • Risk Factions- Great strategy game, funny.
  • Super Meat Boy- My personal favorite XBLA game and very fun/challenging.
  • Scott Pilgrim- Old school fun. Very funny and has a lot of hidden references to the books.
  • Monday Night Combat- If you want a good multiplayer game.
  • Stacking- Great puzzle game and funny, but a bit short.
  • Castlevania SOTN- Classic PSOne game. Lots of fun.
  • Lara Croft GOL- Lot of fun, especially in co-op. Worst thing is, though, is that it was half off all last week and you missed it.
  • Pinball FX- If you like virtual pinball, it is really good.
Any of these are great games to get.
