    http://panicgamer.com/News-detail/activision-bungie-game-destiny-leaked-sci-fi-fps/

    Some of the details:

    • Massively multiplayer style, sci-fantasy action shooter series codenamed Destiny with expansion packs codenamed Comet.
    • Four games releasing in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
    • Four expansion packs releasing in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020.
    • The main games will be retail.
    • There will be other DLC, subscriptions, microtransactions, and value added services.
    • The first game will be an Xbox 360 and "Xbox 720" timed exclusive.
    • Activision and Bungie are considering a PS3 version of the first game in 2014.
    • The second game is targeted for 360, 720, PS4, and Windows PC, though the contract notes that some of those SKUs may be dropped if they decide they are not worthwhile or not technically feasible.
    • Activision can terminate the contract without penalty if Destiny doesn't sell at least 5 million units in the first six months, or for any reason they please after the second expansion pack releases.
    • The contract implies the game has in-game game masters, like those people who work for Blizzard and handle user requests in World of Warcraft while playing some kind of digital representation in the MMO world (or at least being accessible through in game chat).

Sounds like they are planning too much. If this is Bungie saying they have enough planned out to do this, alright let them do it. But if it's Activision going "Hey we like money..." it might not work out so well.

@Barrock: Yeah I don't like how structured it sounds. It reeks of designed by committee. Still I trust Bungie and am willing to give them a chance.

Halo doesn't have any elements of fantasy in it, though. Master Chief can't shoot an SMG with one hand and cast healing spells or fireballs with the other.

    Hecka boring!? What the hell?

Anyway, remember that there are only two - count 'em, two! Halo games that have had regenerating health in the sense that's become popular. Most of the Halo games have the still-unpopular "regenerating shield over health" system. You still need health packs in Halo 1, ODST, and Reach.

yeah, i personally prefer straight shooting multiplayer games - halo. uncharted - over mmo type games, but there is an undeniable longevity to games with more complex systems, even if those systems are kind of obtuse and hard to understand to outsiders.

also, yeah health packs would be an interesting solution. they would be like instantly proc'd powerups.

My point was just that health packs have been in the series since the beginning. Also, I didn't say you thought of Halo as boring - I just wanted to point out how stupid the phrase "hecka boring" is. Say that out loud. Don't yell it, just under your breath. Doesn't it sound kind of dumb?

The fact that MAG was also "massively multiplayer" but nevertheless didn't resemble some fantasy game. That came out of nowhere, and as far as MMO goes, it never says it is an MMO, you're just simplifying it into error. A huge error, because, you know, this could mean just about anything, especially if this deal doesn't hold together for the release of the actual game.

Just to go into why MMO ≠ "massively multiplayer style," here's some examples of games that use the basis of this idea differently: Dark/Demon's Souls, MAG, World of Warcraft, Warcraft/Starcraft, Diablo, Call of Duty, or upcoming Hybrid. You might argue that Strategy games, or CoD just don't cut it, but you have to realize that when you've got a million or so people playing online at the same time, even if it's 4 v 4 or 16 v 16, or whatever MAG has, it still could be said to resemble something that has a massive amount of multiple players that are online.

TL;DR: Nitpicking I may be, you're just wrong in assuming this is an MMO, especially when the document makes certain not to use the exact words you're throwing around.

    From the original post

    Massively multiplayer style, sci-fantasy

"Massively multiplayer" is, strangely enough, what the first two letters of "MMO" stand for, unless I've been gravely mistaken for the past, oh, ten years or so since I first heard the acronym. "Sci-fantasy" is presumably short for "science fiction fantasy", which (to me at least) implies that it will take place in a science fiction world but also include fantasy elements, or vice versa.

A better question is, Do you have a learning disability? Please, point out to me where I am wrong.

@believer258: It's really as simple as this: The game hasn't been shown to us, we don't know what it looks like, or if it will even resemble what this document lays out, and that blind sensationalism is causing people to make ludicrous statements (not to be confused with Ludicrous' statements). Yes, massively multiplayer is the first two words of the MMO acronym, but my point is that, well, "you're just wrong in assuming this is an MMO, especially when the document makes certain not to use the exact words you're throwing around."

You wouldn't call all of the games I listed (here for reference: Dark/Demon's Souls, MAG, World of Warcraft, Warcraft/Starcraft, Diablo, Call of Duty, or Hybrid) MMOs, but they are pretty much in lieu of the ideas that the MMO presents. Would you call XBOX Live, Steam, or the PSN an MMO? You have lots of people online, sharing pretty much the same space, having the same aspects of what MMOs do visually, but you put them figuratively in the same "realm." But you wouldn't call them MMOs, unless you really wanted to prove a point.

As for the "sci-fantasy," once again, you're blindly talking about something you have no clue about. Will there be healers? Spells? Magic? Maybe. To quote Rod Serling (The Twilight Zone), "science fiction, the improbable [is] made possible; fantasy, the impossible made probable." But we don't know what they mean by this, we could be getting something like Xenoblade Chronicles for all we know, or we could get something like Star Wars, where magic is kind of there but not so prevalently. Bungie might completely scrap the fantasy at the end, or might completely scrap the sci-fi at the end, with only some lingering hints of either scattered across. In short, and in the words of Forrest Gump, "you never know what you gonna get."

Also, stop quoting so much of everything, it's freaking annoying. And get a sense of humor that's identical to me so you stop getting so offended by my preciouscomments. That's sarcasm, if you don't catch it.

EDIT: I fixed a spelling mistake that I'm an idiot to have made, and added a quote by Rod Serling to make myself look super smart.

I'll give you this much: The term sci-fantasy is fairly ambiguous, but then that wasn't my main concern in the first place.

MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER, though, implies that the game will be MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER, a term almost universally applied to MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE games.

If they didn't mean to imply that it wasn't an MMO, they wouldn't have said massively multiplayer. The difference is that those games you've listed all have a fairly low player cap compared to World of Warcraft, which is an MMO and can handle thousands of players in a single game.

The definition might become less applicable when we have a multiplayer shooter like Halo or Battlefield with thousands of people in one game at one time. Until then, take your dumb fucking head out of your ass and stop splitting hairs over words that are technically ambiguous but we all know the meaning of.

That is not sarcasm, dickhead, that's the end of this goddamn conversation.

I know it's Activision but it seems smug to plan game releases for 2020 before the first even shipped.

@believer258: I actually feel bad for having aggravated you. I mean it.

All I'm trying to get at is that people are blindly speculating through sensationalizing. I didn't mean for you to feel attacked, or anything like that. The long reply thing I've caught a hundred times looking over forum posts. It was a joke, although the amount of quoting earlier in the thread was totally silly. I didn't mean to hit a nerve.

I'm splitting hairs, you're right, but it all gets to the point that we're all speculating at this point. "Destiny" could be totally different down the road. My problem also lies in that people are speculating without saying so. Calling it an "MMO" is speculation, because we don't know what it is, but it's being thrown around as being a fact. That bugs me. Saying "I hope" and all that is okay, but when you're unintentionally saying things that aren't necessarily proved to be true, it can get silly, stupid, or dangerous.

Anyway, I'm really sorry that you ended up on the bad end of this, especially since you were really the least offending member of those quotes I happened to pick out. Sorry.
