Xbox 360
Platform »
The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
Destructoid's quality "journalism" shines through again.
The original title, which is in the URL (New Xbox, same old disc destroying problems), was a sensationalist headline the geniuses at Destructoid cooked up to grab page views, claiming the new Xbox 360 redesign still suffered from the same disc scratching problem.
As you will see in the video on said article, the dummy picked up the console while it was running. The article has since been edited to admit their stupidity, but it was originally a ridiculous piece trying to blame Microsoft's console for the end user's lack of common sense. Watch the video, it's dumb.
I'm sorry if this has been posted before. I searched but didn't see anything about it. This doesn't really have anything to do with anything, I just thought it was too stupid, I had to share it.
That's kinda like saying that computer hard drives suck because when you drop them they start clicking and don't work.
" That's kinda like saying that computer hard drives suck because when you drop them they start clicking and don't work. "What? They do? What pieces of junk!
I guess the original complaint was technically MS could design a DVD drive that wouldn't scratch a disk even if you did slam it around. But it is kind of a dumb point.
But Destructoid is a site that thrives completely on controversy. Best advice if you don't want to be manipulated is just to avoid it, that's what I do.
" @marrec said:Yeah guys. One of GB's staff is a former Sensationalist! We have to embrace it." Sensationalist reporting through and through, at least nobody listens to anything that they have to say... right? "Not until the same kind of idiot gets hired by GB. Then they defend it. "
" @JJWeatherman said:Probably still a bad idea." What an effing moron. You obviously don't do that with ANY console. "You can do it with Wii. I've kicked my Wii (on accident) while playing a game once and nothing happened to my disc. "

" @marrec said:If this article was posted on Giant Bomb I would be just as quick to laugh at the stupidity of it. That being said, from what I've read of Brad's work on GB he hasn't written anything nearly as stupid as this. Whether he did or not on Destructoid, I don't know." Sensationalist reporting through and through, at least nobody listens to anything that they have to say... right? "Not until the same kind of idiot gets hired by GB. Then they defend it. "
Just reading the title of their topic I knew what it was going to be. Thusly, I didn't bother even checking out the link.
" @ryanwho said:I don't think anything to this level would be posted on GB, unless in a satirical/editorial style... Maybe I put too much faith in these guys." @marrec said:Yeah guys. " im SURE when this goes on sale, people will do this on purpose, and also try to force a red ring by wrapping it in blankets and leaving it on for days or something "Actually the whole towel-wrapping thing was a way to half-ass fix a red ring. It made the inside heat up so much that the solder would melt and bridge the spot that had broken, allowing for a few extra hours of life before it would eventually melt something else. That's how I remember it anyway.
As for getting a sweet new model as a replacement, they have scores of old units refurbed just for the purposes of replacements.
" @JJWeatherman said:Wii is like a tank. Dropped mine down the steps and it landed on its end like I normally stand it. Sort of like it was mocking the steps." What an effing moron. You obviously don't do that with ANY console. "You can do it with Wii. I've kicked my Wii (on accident) while playing a game once and nothing happened to my disc. "
It still works fine.
That will happen with any high speed optical disc drive. The spinning disc acts like a gyroscope, so will try to stay level when tilted. He's lucky the disc didn't explode.
Fuck Destructoid.
The sad thing is that guy is deemed a professional video game journalist. When hes clearly..for lack of a better word a retard. You do not pick a console up when theres a disc spinning. That is common sense my friend.
Whats even more worrying is a lot of the guys in the comments box don't seem to realize this either and are "worried" about it. Fanboys or just morons?
" @marrec said:Not this bad. At least the core GiantBomb crew have some common sense. If Ryan, Jeff, Vinny, or Brad ever do pick up a 360 while it's in motion and then try to put the blame on the system for scratching the disk, I will gladly go back on my sentiments here." Sensationalist reporting through and through, at least nobody listens to anything that they have to say... right? "Most video game journalism is sensationalist. Even the GB guys. "

It's gonna do that on any console unless you put a clamp on the disc to keep it in place, but why do that when you don't need to move the console when a disc is running?
Other things M$ Hasn't fixed:
1) Dropping the 360 over 3 feet tends to cause things to break.
2) Sticking grilled cheese sandwiches in the disk tray still craps out the console
3)Spilling beer in the vents still cause problems
4)The case still cannot support the weight of a car rolling over it,
Until Microsoft fixes these blatant oversights is just the same old same old
I didn't say that though." @Ace829 said:

Speaking of dumb blanket statements...

Ripped a friends Wii off of a 5 foot shelf, because of a cord I didn't see, while the game was playing and the Wii was fine and the disc was still clean. Their stuff is haaard to break.
It's not unrealistic to want Microsoft to improve that problem.

Really? They supposedly "Didn't know it would happen" when they moved the 360. Jesus Christ, they should grow some brains.
Man, that reads like a Fox News article. "Do something stupid and bad stuff will happen. BE AFRAID!!!!" Then there's all the sheep commenters "The new Xbox is eeeevvvviiilll because if I stand it up while moving parts are running it will scratch my discs. It's clearly Microsoft's fault for me not reading the warnings that are placed quite openly under the disc drive."
I mean seriously, I've known not to move stuff with spinning discs in it since I was 5.
" why do people have the 360 standing up in the first place it should always lay down. the disc scratching has always been a user problem not the consoles fault. "Well Microsoft does show the 360 standing up in a lot of their ads.

It's not really the console that is destroying the games though, it is the person that is moving the console while it is on.
