Last week was the new Gamercard, this week Major nelson explains how avatars will work.

First i didnt like the avatars, now .........i gotta admit, its looking pretty sweet. they took the mii idea and Expanded the hell out of it. Something nintendo never did and never will.

So essentially a fat Dennis Rodman. :P

Anyway, I really like these Avatars. It's just gives my console a nice personalized touch, instead of a generic Gamerpic. Everything about the Dashboard seems wonderful - especially the party feature. Looking forward to seeing more on it in the weeks to come.

You can be sure MS will charge for any "cool"/new accessories for Avatars - but they have every right to. I thought they were insane to charge for a little low-res picture that seriously anyone can make. At least these are rendered in 3D, and take some actual time to make. And I'm guessing 200 points/shirt or accessory. There are people that would pay that...

Since I bought my console at launch, I've never bought a Gamerpic, and don't plan on spending on my Avatar either.

Pretty intelligent remark you have there. Care to explain why it's stupid? Everything loads faster than the current sluggish speed, most of the new features are optional, and it's free. Guess complaining about progress is all the rage these days.

I have a feeling that instead of charging per item they'll charge per pack. Basically I wouldn't be surprised if they just put out Avatar Accesory/Clothing packs for like 400 MS points.
