How often do you use cloud saves?

Personally I have never used them. I don't have much reason. Yes, my hd is small (I got my 360 in 2006 and never upgraded) but usually I'm only playing a couple games at a time, and if I decide to go back I usually start from scratch. Combined with the fact that your purchase history is stored on Xbox Live (meaning I can easily redownload old Arcade titles) and I almost have no reason to use it.

So what about you?

Never. Though I can see the uses of it, I have no intentions of ever using it. It seems like a flash drive would be far more practical and less cumbersome.

Never. If I had to move between consoles or something like the Giantbomb guys often do then I'd try em'.

Tried once, didn't work, haven't needed to since that one time.

#5 Posted by DeF (4808 posts) -

is that a a gold exclusive feature or do us silver members get that, too?

#6 Posted by zombie2011 (4968 posts) -

i have one xbox so i don't need to use it.

#7 Posted by Mike76x (555 posts) -

Never.

My son does use it all the time when he wants to play on my 360 in the living room.

used it once, thought it was cool. not been used since. does it save a local copy as well as a cloud copy, or just the cloud copy? if it does both i might start using it again.

Most games let you have two of the same saves. ME2 for example doesn't. It only lets you transfer, not copy, to anything.

Never. Don't have any reason to.

@Toms115: The Xbox saves a back-up of the cloud data on the HDD

#12 Posted by sopranosfan (1935 posts) -

Never as well.

#13 Posted by Dimsey (948 posts) -

Haven't had reason to yet, but I'm glad it's there regardless.

#14 Posted by Pitta (182 posts) -

Everyday. All my saves are on it. I can be using one of around 5 xboxes at any time during the day, so it's super handy.

#15 Posted by Vexxan (4615 posts) -

Didn't work when I tried to use it.

#16 Edited by MetalBaofu (1352 posts) -

I've used them for two reasons so far. First time was to move saves from my old small HD to my new bigger one. Second time was when I ran into a problem with my second character on Skyrim. The save wouldn't load, but I found out that if I moved it to the cloud and tried loading it from there, then it would work. Plus, having one character on my HD and the other in the cloud helps me to avoid accidentally saving over the wrong file or something. I most likely won't use the could any more than that, though. I never play on a different Xbox.

I've been using mine for Skyrim mostly. Going over to a friend's house to show him my house, loot, etc.

#18 Posted by amardilo (117 posts) -

All the time. But the disk space they give you (512MB) is way too small to keep all my saves so I tend to just keep the saves of games I am currently playing and ones that I have either not finished or want to keep a back up of.

My main concern is my HDD failing so keeping them in the cloud seems to be worthwhile to me.

Your friend doesn't have the game then I assume? I mean it's not like you can costumize your house a lot and there isn't that much loot in the game to get anything that looks unique. One person's house looks about the same as another person's house. It's too bad you can't even choose a theme like in Fallout 3 (although the love theme was the only correct choice anyway).

To answer the question, I have never used cloud saves.

#20 Posted by JasonR86 (9609 posts) -

Very rarely. I've only used it to hold my older saves I don't want to get rid of (for some reason).

#21 Posted by Video_Game_King (36047 posts) -

I don't have Gold, so absolutely never.

#22 Posted by zyn (2591 posts) -

I used them, until my Gold expired. So I moved them back from the Cloud to the internal HDD.

Does Steam count?

#24 Posted by GinjaAssassin (158 posts) -

I only save over cloud right now. I like storing things locally, but I am still on a launch 360 and I know one day it's going to die on me and there's the chance I can't recover those saves. 100+ hour Skyrim saves gone forever = utter depression.

#25 Posted by BakingPanda (21 posts) -

@dagas: He has the game but not my save file. It was just easier to show him something or if he was out I could play my file as well. Just convenience I guess.

#26 Posted by UitDeToekomst (703 posts) -

haven't used it yet and don't anticipate doing so unless something drastic about my gaming habits change, or i grow worried about the stability of my (relatively new) 360.

#27 Posted by PerryVandell (2103 posts) -

Never, as I only have one Xbox and don't like gambling when there's nothing to gain.

#28 Posted by OllyOxenFree (4970 posts) -

Never. I don't want to give the clouds a chance to rain on my parade.

#29 Posted by TheUnsavedHero (1255 posts) -

I only use the cloud when I play games that I know i'm going to play at a friends place. So mostly the multiplayer focused games like Battlefield.

If it does, constantly. If not, never. Mainly because I haven't touched my 360 since last December...

#31 Posted by MikkaQ (10268 posts) -

Yeah I only use cloud saves anymore. They load instantly and I don't have to take a USB key every time I want to move between my living room and office.

#32 Posted by sup909 (159 posts) -

Im putting my new saves on there and moved a couple of ones I felt were "important", but I am not trying to move all of my back catalog over.

#33 Posted by Guided_By_Tigers (8061 posts) -

I've never used them

#34 Edited by Cloudenvy (5891 posts) -

I've never touched the cloud!

#35 Posted by Witzig (326 posts) -

I use it for Skyrim and that's about it.

#36 Posted by GunstarRed (5035 posts) -

As soon as my 360 started making funny noises in February I started making cloud saves. I have the PS3 saves set to automatically update also.

#37 Posted by Mcfart (1552 posts) -

Never. Flash drives....

#38 Posted by HandsomeMuffin (109 posts) -

I use it all the time. Transferring saves from my xbox to my girlfriends is so much easier now. And as an added bonus to it you can finally keep your gamertag on multiple consoles! No more USBs!

#39 Posted by KaneRobot (1424 posts) -

Never. Seems like something I won't pay attention to until when/if I buy one of the next gen consoles.

#40 Posted by Bollard (5267 posts) -

Never.

This thread seems pretty conclusive, literally the only guys who think this is awesome are journalists like the GB crew. Leaves you wondering what else they're out of touch with... :P

#41 Posted by DallasTheGamer (154 posts) -

Not so often. I only put my saves there when I've finished a RPG like Lost odyssey or Tales of vesperia just to be sure I keep them if something crazy would happen with my 360.

#42 Posted by AjayRaz (12418 posts) -

i go to my friend's house a lot so i have my EDF2017 cloud save so we can just boot that up and blow stuff up if we feel like it. apart from that i don't use it because the games i want to carry around on my cloud don't allow save coping.

#43 Posted by RHYMESCHEME23 (64 posts) -

I've been using it a lot lately, mostly because I ran out of space on my main memory hub and I'm too lazy to buy a new one.

I've some cleaning up to do. I know, I know.

#44 Posted by plaintomato (598 posts) -

To back up saves when your done with a game you might revisit someday? Like Skyrim? Cause someday being, well someday, who knows if you might have the same box that day...

...or maybe the saves will carry over to a fully backwards compatible Xbox 1440 in 10 or 20 years when Half Life 3 is totally retro and USB is obsolete like "what? why not a 36 pin parallel cable?"

Never. Don't even use my X-Box anymore.

The Xbox 360 cloud system saved me. Bit of a story but back in February (Valentines day actually..) someone broke into my apartment and stole my 360's. Yea really... I had just got back from taking my GF at the time to dinner to find my place ransacked... While yes the initial dollar investment lost in the 360, headset, controllers, memory cards, etc sucks but its all the time I've spent in each game that was now lost that really hurt. I was especially freaking out because I'm a huge Mass Effect fan and was now facing the possibility of not having a character ready to import.

Luckily the day prior I was messing around with my ME1 saves trying to get the ME2 importer to work. Apparently I had put the last save file over (before the last Saren fight) on the cloud and not the end game save by accident. I had forgot about this and was doomed and gloomed thinking there was no way I could 100% both games before 3 comes out but I turned on ME1 and saw the "continue game" option and nearly jumped out of my seat. Even luckier it was on my insanity run so after a few minutes I was able to beat Saren and get my N7 gamerpic back. So yes, now I use it when I can. Also, I'm glad to find out Castle Crashers and Scott Pilgrim automatically save to the server.

NEVER.

#49 Posted by Anupsis (284 posts) -

Do not trust it.

#50 Posted by Choffy (440 posts) -

I don't. I like using a USB stick shoved into the back of my Xbox. Probably not the best idea since I can't count many USB drives I've had that have broken, but I like to live life on the edge so it's ok.
