Installed games on a 360

Hello people.
I just popped Blur into my Xbox 360 to play it and a message came up that said I can't play the game unless I delete the install and then re-install it. It's no big deal but I'm just wondering A. Why this happened? and B. Does it happen with any other games?
It just seems really odd since you need the disc to play installed games so limiting which consoles you can play a game on seems pointless.
To add some further information I'm just a back up Xbox 360 (an Arcade model) with my Elite hard drive (this might have something to do with it). Also I had fajitas for dinner (though I don't think that's relevant).

I think it's like you think. The xbox probably creates some sort of ID on the disk image that ties it to the machine.
