So I am currently running the new dashboard and have tested out Internet Explorer which works surprisingly well.

However, I tried watching a video on Giant Bomb and the 360 said it requires at least Flash v9.

With no way to actually install flash plug-ins, the only alternative is HTML5.

Will Giant Bomb accommodate this by making all their HTML5 content subscription-free or will everyone just have to subscribe to get access to GB videos on their 360?

Don't know how feasible this could be, but how about doing a Giant Bomb app for the console?

So... load times. Could you tell me if, say, loading up the Quickplay menu is any faster, or does it still take forever?

@Demoskinos: It actually pretty good, a 113Mb download though.

Seems pretty quick to me, but since you can pin games now; you might want to use that feature instead?

I just can't personally see any scenario where I would want to use it no matter how good it is. I've got my PC with in arms reach as well as my Windows Phone. If you could do like the steam client and have a overlay where you could view pages that would be neat as you could have a FAQ or a Wiki open in the background but I see that taking up way to much system memory to be a thing on console.

It is so much easier to watch a video off of Giant Bomb from your phone anyway.

I'm pretty sure GB would have to pay Microsoft for that.

I would rather seem them pay someone to keep the site on HTML5 running smoothly than make an app for any platform. Features on phones are still iffy.

Load times are a little better...but plenty of other new annoyances abound.

@msavo: I think it's pretty rad. Looks really nice and well designed, as opposed to the 360 one which is basically the same as all their other media apps. Only bad thing about it is that it copies the MS keyboard layout, from A-Z at the top instead of using the pop-up keyboard. But it's got predictive text, so if you type in G, it'll show up like 5 more letters that are commonly used, like I or E or whatever. You can sync up your favorites and watch later lists, it's got categories like Music, Gaming, TV, etc. Really nicely done.

But the videos looks like shit. I never tried the PS3 youtube thing until recently and it was un-watchable. It's better to have a notebook hooked up to your TV because even that can give you some sort of quality from youtube.

HTML5 is such a stupid thing to keep behind a pay wall, you won't all visitors to be able to view all non- premium content with any device they can.

So I was curious about all this, so I looked into it. HTML 5 theater is only supported in Chrome and Safari, so that won't work. HOWEVER if you click download, that will allow you to stream any of the Giant Bomb's video. I'm actually pretty happy about this, because my current laptop has some really awful speakers, one of which is totally blown out. Watching subscriber content was a total bummer, but this will work very nicely.

Yeah unless you are watching sub stuff the 360 YouTube app is ok. It would be nice if I could set the video quality though as it seems to think my connection sucks (it doesn't) and won't use HD. but other than that its fine.

Wonder is we'll be getting any Giantbomb content from the newly released Gamespot app. I watched the most recent "quoted for truth" with Ryan Davis. It was nice on the big screen...

I think the html 5 option should remain a subscriber benefit. I imagine it requires a fair amount of support compared to youtube and flash. Perhaps when flash has finally become just a memory html 5 video could be made available to non-members.

Fuck no it doesn't, otherwise people using IE on 360 will just use other game sites. The ad's pay for HTML5 support just fine. I don't mind paying for the paywall stuff like Random PC Game but it would be alot cooler if I could get that stuff free.

@RAMBO604: MS are rolling it out in stages. I think Major Nelson's blog said I it could be done over a week.
