I would honestly say wait until October/November, because those months are packed. As for holding you over, maybe pick up 2 older Xbox 360 games. Or, Orange Box can just hold you over -- 5 games on one disc means lots of replayability.

Going by your taste in games, I'd say Mercenaries 2 and Midnight Club: LA would fit nicely in that collection.

Vinchenzo's right, you're better off waiting for a couple of months. The Orange Box is a great idea, you can probably pick it up cheaply second-hand.

I forgot bout Merc2 but no on the midnight club... i hate that series, i like realistic car games

Depends what you like, FPS or fighting.
Orange box is basically just a compilation of shooting, while there is 5 games, don't expect much variety. (genre wise)

I believe that Banjo could take Kilik, but Nightmare AND Yoda? Really? Logically, Banjo and Kazooie would of been owned by Yoda in less than 10 seconds. While they do have speed against Nightmare, he would of destroyed the whole area, making it unable for them to use anything as a weapon. And Kaooie can only make them be in the air for so long.

But that's not the point of this, it's on what games he should get, and for the money, The Orange Box or Soul Calibur 4 are good choices."

If we bring in the money aspect, then Banjo is even better seeing as how Nut's and Bolt's is launching at 39.99, plus with a preorder you get the original Banjo. 2 Great games for $40. Cant beat it. Banjo could own Yoda no prob. Yoda is so old and small he has trouble holding his toy sword up, Banjo would just launch Kazzoie straight into Yoda's eyeballs and then Yoda would be more disabled then he already is, leaving him vulnerable to Banjo's sneek around and dominate attack. Then Nightmare would see how overwhelming and powerful Banjo truely is and hand the Soul Calibur Sword over to Banjo making Banjo the victor. BANJO WIN's!!!"
