It is an SRPG, I used to think it's second rate to FF Tactics in the PS1 days, but then again perhaps I didn't give it a proper chance. The sequel did have an interesting twist as, while still a turn based game, actions happened simultaneously. You moved a unit, and the enemy also moved a unit at the same time, without you knowing which until you have confirmed your action. I'll try it if it comes to WiiWare, or PC.

Edit: No I won't, that looks awful. The PS1 sprites were so charming in comparison. Wtf, Konami?

What do Konami's 2D artists even do these days, other than the occasional portable Castlevania? Make more 2D-infused games please.

I had both back in the PS days, they came out around the same time right when games like Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre were being remembered as great games, sparking the whole strategy/RPG fanbase from then on.

I liked Vandal Hearts the best on that platform, it wasn't as convoluted or limiting as FFT, that game's reliance on small forces against always superior ones and the way too complex job system turned me off, where VH was more a straight-forward game with much less to hassle about.  Very similar to Shining Force and since we Saturn owners only got part one of SFIII right when the system died, it was all we had until Dragon Force.  FFT is by no means bad, it just did what every Square game did at the time, piled on tons of complex systems and options that overwhelm the game and make it a chore to play for some.

FFT wasn't that complex, it was quite deep though. It was pretty much a Tactics Ogre game with a FF skin on top, and the awesome versatile (limiting?!) jobs system. The skills system is pretty much identical in both games. You should probably give it another shot.

I didn't see the Vandal Hearts resembalance to Shining Force 3, otherwise I'd have been all over it myself.

Vandal Hearts 2 was great.  I'm actually looking forward to this.

Vandal hearts never had super detailed artwork, and then again i think the character is supposed to look like that.

Looks pretty cool actually. If it's like FF Tactics I'll probably enjoy it, I loved that game.
