    Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble with my Xbox 360. The console just hangs after a couple of minutes of gameplay.
Talking to Microsoft support, they told me my console isn't eligable for a repair under warranty anymore. To get the console repaired under warranty I'd "need" the Red Ring of Death.
Can anybody here tell me how to get the dreaded RRoD?

Wrap some towels around it and keep it on for a day or two maybe?

Maybe you can overheat it by wrapping it in a bunch of cotton towels.

Bad idea. If you keep it on for too long, it will literally catch fire. Wrap it in the towels for no longer than a half an hour, and then go from there.

Close the vents with towels and leave it on. You'll get it in no time.

So I wrapped the console in towels and turned it on. After about fourty minutes it showed two blinking red lights and turned itself off.
Unfortunately after turning the console back on it didn't give me the RRoD.
The console still freezes of course.

You might have to keep trying it, the RROD is caused when the console gets too hot, so try leaving it on longer.

Hmm, this doesn't seem to work. The 360 shuts itself down after approximately fourty minutes, showing two blinking red ligths (overheating, I guess).

Strangely enough, I would like to know the same. Keep us updated if you succeed on forcing the RRoD.

can you like, turn it straight back on again? so the heat has no time to dissipate?

otherwise, do you have access to a dry sauna?

    also
im not accountable for you taking any of my (generally stupid) advice.

Yes, I can turn it back on straight away. Left it on for two "rounds" of this so far to no avail.

The "towel trick" does NOT give you three blinking red lights (the RROD.) An overheating box blinks only two red lights, and will only last as long as the box is hot.

Maybe a little cheese on top?

I have the Xbox wrapped in towels now for a couple of hours. Don't think this is working.

I hope it gets a Red Ring for you... (Sounds so strange saying that, lol). I find it hard to believe that the 360s weren't recalled, because there have been more than RROD issues, there's been graphics card issues, etc. I don't believe it's only 30% failing, it seems like it's a much larger amount has been failing.

Talking to MS support they told me if I claim the problem to be the RRoD and it isn't they'll just send the console back without fixing it (as mentioned above, no warranty left)
Not sure if this is always true though.
Maybe I can tell them I had it once and now it just freezes again. Or is the RRoD always permanent?

Okay, on the MS Xbox RMA form it says that they will check if the console has the RRoD upon arrival. If it doesn't and I claimed otherwise, they'll just send it back without repairing it.
Think I'll cough up the 87 Euros for the repair.
