I think Microsoft will license the Xbox tech to companies like Panasonic, Samsung, etc.  Then they will just be Xbox players, like DVD players.  Then the retail game boxes will just say "Games for Xbox" on them.

I thought the 360 was kind of a stupid name as it didnt really make sense...so why the hell not 1080? I want Xbox4596945034...it would have about the same meaning.

Why do people say 720, it makes no sense whatsoever. 360 meant it was a revolution in gaming, 720 just means it's a repeat, nothing special. It's going to have another name, not anything stupid like 720/1080.

I doubt it will be called an "Xbox".  Their going for a re branding.

I think they'll move on from the number gimmick. It kind of worked for the 360 but the Xbox 1080 would be pushing it. Also the Wii proved that a simple name is good for your recognition amongst the casual public, and I doubt MS wouldn't have picked on that.

How about they call it The Matrix?

all i know is that the person who started this whole "720" thing, needs to be beaten over and over with very heavy industrial equipment. Cause its about the most stupid name i can think of.

I wonder how many internet threads like this were up and bashing the name "Wii" when it was first announced? Now no-one really cares, I'm assuming whatever the next Xbox is named no-one will care after a few months either...

Xbox 1080 sounds stupid, i hope they don't end up naming consoles after the resolution they support....

I would just wish that they would call it the Xbox 3. Keep it simple.

Any variation of the name that implies degrees (360, 720, 1080 etc) would be ridiculous, they have no reason to call it that whatsoever, and given the reasoning behind calling it 360 in the first place, one of those names isn't even a logical progression. It's supposed to represent gaming come full circle, so a progression of that would represent what? Gaming spinning around on the spot?

It'll either be a stale crusty name like Xbox 3, or someting totally random, the meaning of which is obscure and lost on 99% of people anyway. Something like NeXBox or Xcube, or ShockBox or something.

I think is gonna have an original name, like Nintendo does. Xbox Zoom, Xbox Revolved, Xbox In, Xbox Xeon, Xbox Neon, Xbox Helium, Xbox Carbon, Xbox Retribution...

Internally, they're calling it Project Whabam.

I think it'd be awesome if they named the next one the Red Ring of Life, and it was a red, halo shaped system.
