    Exactly one week after Skyrim came out, i got the Red Ring of Death. Today, i just plugged that Xbox in purely on whim, and there was no Red Ring when i turned it on.

    What gives?

    I should probably mention that there were no games in the drive, and I'm going to try putting one in later on when i get back to my dad's house. Somehow i get the feeling that the Ring will return if i try to actually play a game.

    But seriously, what gives?

    If i remember correctly, the red ring comes because of heating issues. Most likely it cooled off, but it most likely will red ring again shortly.

    Three red rings? Indicates a hardware failure but because it is so general, the faulty part may not be completely broken. I had increasing broken rings on one of my xboxs for a week. Then it permanently broke.

    "Cloud" in this context means data saved on a server online somewhere, so your achievements and game progress are protected.

    Some games support it, some don't.

    I may be wrong here, but I think you can get a red ring if your power supply isn't connected properly. Ran into the same situation a few months ago, adjusted some cords, and it worked.

    @ninjadude853: If you have a gold account, you can put all your saves in the 'cloud' essentially a storage for your game saves if something happens to your console. It is only 512 mb and will only work for save games, no dlc, videos or extra. It copies everything to a Microsoft server along with keeping an 'up to date' copy on your xbox.

    So if your xbox does finally die, and you do get another xbox, your saves will be safe online or 'in the cloud'

    The xbox 360 I gave my little sister would chain red-ring for a week. That was about 2 years ago. Currently it is going strong. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will live too!

    When my launch 360 died it would red ring and work for a while but the longer it went the shorter time it would work and the longer it would be down until finally it gave up the fight.

    That happened to me, i got the red rings but turned it off immediately-the 360 had a good year left in it after that, just keep using it and see what happens

    Then only use it occasionally and only then for a few hours, just to be safe. Something like "only on the weekends" or "every other day".

    You don't need to cloud save for achievements., I'm pretty sure.

    Also if you have the same hard drive you can use it on different consoles. I've blown up two xboxs (on my third) and I'm still rocking the original 20GBs.

    @ninjadude853:

    Both my red ringed xboxs came back to life for a time, but died shortly after.

    I broke both playing Fallout 3. Seems playing an rpg for 8 hours is a little rough on them.
