What Are Some Good Games For a New 360 Owner?

It's my birthday today, and my friend who recently got a new 360 decided to give me his old one. I've never owned an Xbox, and the only games I can think to get are Dust: An Elysian Tail, Halo, and Forza. Other than those games, what are some good exclusives?

And are there some multi-platform games that perform better on 360 than they do on PS3 or PC?

Shadow Complex and the Gears of War games.

No game that I can name performs better on the 360 than on the PC*. However, most games perform slightly better on the 360, but some games do better on the PS3. Most of the time, the difference is negligible but you might still want to investigate.

*with the possible exception of Saints Row 2, which from what I've heard has a port that is nearly unplayable because of crashes, or doesn't start, or whatever. But let's be fair - Saints Row 2 does not perform well on any platform.

    If we're just counting exclusives...

    - Fez

    - Trials Evolution (or Trials HD)

    - Gears of War Trilogy

    - Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts

    - Shadow Complex

Phil Fish said that Fez is getting a multiplatform release this year. I have to assume that PC will be one of those platforms. Might wanna wait and see how it all ends before buying it for 360.

    Play Alan Wake. Seriously.

Also most multiplatform games perform better on 360 than PS3. That's what Digital Foundry always says, anyhow.

@Oldirtybearon: @DarthOrange: I've played Alan Wake picked it up on Steam a few weeks ago and it was great!

@C0V3RT: All those games seem great, but the joy of Fez seemed to come from the community working together to solve the puzzle of the game. I can't really see myself playing it now.

@JoeyRavn: Well... yeah. PC out performs everything and I have a decent one. Probably just gonna stick to exclusives on the 360.

I think Gears of War is the best exclusive on the Xbox. In fact I think it is among the better shooters to be had on any platform, period. However it is not strictly exclusive to Xbox because Gears 1 ( and only Gears 1) was offered on PC. If you like action shooters Gears is a great one, I liked it better than Halo. I'm talking Gears of War 1, I never played any of the other Gears games and I played it on PC not the Xbox, so my experience is a little different. It was better looking on the PC and had some additional content, but basically the same game.

I checked out your Trophy list to avoid listing some 3rd party games you already have played. For retail games I'd recommend checking out:

For XBLA games I'd say these games are worth buying (if you've got the hard drive space for them all):

There's definitely other good games but I either forgot about them or haven't played enough of something to recommend it.

listen mayne....I just played through Gears of War 1 twice in the span of like 2 days (my save was fucked up and I could not play on insane difficulty until I beat the game at least once) and that game totally holds up. I know it's an easy answer but seriously you should try Gears. If you don't enjoy it that's fine but if you end up liking it you got another 3 whole games to enjoy as well.

Also I don't know if you've already played it but Metro 2033 is also great.

Well, excluding the main games like Halo, Alan Wake, Gears.
     Retail:
Kameo Elements of Power: Best launch game for the console. Really thought this was a great new IP from Rare. (RIP) You can easily obtain this game for a couple bucks.
Perfect Dark Zero: Pretty good FPS. I think a lot of people hate it just because it has Perfect Dark stamped on the box.
Halo Wars: You probably don't have this on your hit list. It's a really great spinoff and I could see so much potential in a sequel.
Crackdown 1 and 2: The latter gets a ton of shit, but I thought it was better than the original in every way. Wicked fun open world games especially if you have friends to play the game with.

    Xbla: *Deep breath*
Perfect Dark HD: Easily the best XBLA port of a game I've seen. If you have some homies to play against it's like the best game ever.
Trials Evo: Don't bother with HD. This game blows it out of the water. Can't think of a better "bang for your buck" game.
Happy Wars: Cute little Free game. Really enjoyed this game back in the beta, haven't spent to much time with the final version.
Spelunky: This game beats you the fuck down and you just keep getting up. Very replayable little game.
Raskulls: Cute casual game. Very fun online with friends.
Bangai-O! HD Missile Fury: This game is really fucking great, and I never hear anyone talk about it. Download the trial and play Stage 3 and tell me what you think you experienced.
Joyride Turbo: Don't confuse this with that Kinect crap. Really fun racing game not many people bought.
Snoopy Flying Ace: You don't even understand how fun the multiplayer in this game is.

    Hope that helps!

The Gears series is definitely worth playing, those games are a hell of a lot of fun.

Shadow Complex, PGR 4, Geo Wars 2, Hydro Thunder, Nuts & Bolts, Viva Pinata: TiP, Ms Splosion Man, and, of course, Crackdown.

Try the Ninja Gaiden 2 demo, that game is supposedly different on 360, I think it's awesome. Comic Jumper is awesome too but doesn't stand next to the rest of these gameplay wise. I don't know if Crash Course is still free on the marketplace but that's pretty good.

I think people have covered most of the bases. Halo, Gears, and Forza are the big three. Fable 2 and 3 are fun for what they are. Not brilliant but enjoyable. PGR3 and PGR4 are also good. I also really enjoyed the Dishwasher series of XBLA games. IloMilo is good. Bayonetta isn't an exclusive but it is vastly superior on 360 so even if you've played the PS3 version I'd recommend trying the 360 one as it is just vastly superior. Most other 3rd party games are better on PC. Let's see. Viva Pinata is a great farming sim. A lot of people really like Lost Odyssey although I haven't played that one. All the Mass Effect games are now on PS3 and they are best on PC, but if you haven't tried them yet they are great. That's about all I can think of. Microsoft honestly has much fewer exclusives than Nintendo or Sony. Once you've played Halo and Gears you've pretty much played all the essential games unless you really like racing sims.
