Ok before I start this post and then have it taken down minutes later, this is not a post to talk down on GiantBomb or any of it's staff. I'm only doing this to spread my opinion and get everyone elses.

Anyways, I enjoy GiantBombs humor on the podcasts a lot. But, I'm beginning to feel that the staff is favoring the Xbox 360 over every other platform. Now, I believe it when they say they have no favorites but, this is from what I'm noticing. I'm only going to point out one instance for now because I'm in enough trouble as it is. That one instance is when they were deciding their '08 Game of the Year. In their podcast it was a choice between Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand theft Auto IV. The whole time they were deciding their GotY they were really talking down on MGS4. I understand it has some downsides but I know (as well as everyone else) it does not deserve that much crap talking.

I understand that GTA IV is also multi-platform but I consider it a 360 release because of all the DLC that's exclusive. And before anyone says I'm a PS3 fanboy, I'm not. I'm a PC fanboy (Starcraft and Battlefield). And yes I do own a PS3. And that's because that's my preference.

So, any opinions?

They have said numerous times that the 360 is their go-to console. It's where all their friends are on and they enjoy the atmosphere of the online community better there. It's nothing more than personal preference that can't be helped. They are human. But it is far from fanboyism.

And MGS4 was DAMN close to being the GOTY. And they weren't talking crap about it, they were just trying to find any flaws that would keep it from being better than GTAIV. And I think they did a good job of voicing their reason.

Well, I'm pretty sure they gave their opinions on why they liked GTA4 better then MGS4. Just because you think that GTA4 counts as exclusive to 360 because of the dlc doesn't mean they think the same way. Maybe GTA4 has more gameplay while MGS4 while skipping the cutscenes can be beaten near 5 hours. I don't know i think they all have both platforms so they don't tend to learn towards any side.

I don't really care. If they have a favorite system, so be it. As long as it doesn't affect their view on the actual games. And who decides how much is wrong with MGS4 anyway? You weren't really part of the discussion, it was the views of Vinny, Jeff, Brad, and Ryan. Of course you're not gonna agree with all of their complaints. Why is that so hard to understand on the internet? I hate cake with frosting on it? Does that make my views on food invalid? Because it disagrees with so many others? You use an opinion of others for two reasons: to validate your own or to inform you of one you don't yet have. Unfortunately, the internet chooses the former.

Being a fanboy means being irrational in your support of a platform. There are plenty of rational reasons to prefer 360 over the other consoles, namely the fact that it has the most fleshed out online service and the most good (as in games the guys at GB are interested in) games coming to it. It is this generation's PS2. As for "talking down" to MGS4, go listen to that fucking podcast again and actually listen.

i think you've got your head far too into the details, man. take a step back and think about it: yes, they picked GTA 4 over MGS 4, but out of all the releases of that year, it came down to a PS3 exclusive, and a multiplatform game, and thay made the descision BEFORE Lost and The Damned was out. they picked a PS3 exclusive as a serious contender for GOTY and it took damn near 3 hours of talking it out to come to a descision that a multiplatform game was the better choice.

if your arguement is based around MGS 4 coming in second place as opposed to first place against something that is only a 360 exclusive in your head and retroactive to this podcast even if your logic is to be agreed with (which it's not.) then you're still pissing in the wind.

the reason they choose the 360 over ps3 for things like quick looks is because it has a larger install base, it's only sensible. As for MGS 4, i think it would have no less criticism if it was on 360, just watch Brads review.

Well... I mean, there are real, rational reasons to like the 360 more. I'm sure they do in fact get more fun out of their 360s than PS3. I know I do. However, there is a difference between liking something and being a fanboy. Like even after what I just said, Infamous is still one of my favorite games this year so far, and I'm pretty sure Brad feels the same way.

Basically, if you are way into video games in 2009, you probably spend most of your video game time on your 360. That's just the way it is man.

@slinky6: i will agree with you on those points but my 360 has been pretty much collecting dust ever since I got my ps3 last November. About the only thing keeping me from selling it is Mass Effect 2. As far as Online I think Sony has more potential when it comes to PSN then MS has with XBL because A) PSN uses dedicated servers for online gaming, as apposed to the p2p of XBL, which pretty much eliminates lag, and B) It's free.

As far as games are concerned then Personally I think Sony are a better first-party developers then MS, it just seems to me that Sony just gives their developers more air to breath and are willing to take risks on very unique games. Can you honestly see games like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Heavy Rain and LiitleBigPlanet being green-lighted by MS or any other publisher for that matter?

The major advantages MS has on Sony is marketing and PR. Sony has always been very...what is a nice word for it....tame, with their marketing ideology. Ms, on the other hand, are THE masters of marketing. Why they can market dried shit and convince people it the best thing since sliced bread. Though I feel Howard Stringer is going to change all that.

Everybody knows that X360 is a superior console because it has more exclusive games and contents , usually but not always multi-platform games run better on 360 , generally speaking X360 and its games appeal more to American consumers than PS3 . This being said PS3 is still a darn awesome console with some fantastic exclusive titles .

Now onto the Giant Bomb 's decision regarding GOTY 2008 . In my opinion both MGS4 and GTA IV were great games but GTA IV deserved the title because of its story , the game's vast world , characters , voice acting and overall fun . That choice has nothing to do with fanboism .

Ugh....I have a feeling you GREATLY misunderstood the GOTY podcast and their discussion. They spoke of accolades to both MGS4 and GTAIV as well as speaking down to them both many times. They tried to balance the pros and cons of each and ended with two flawed games that still were so great and masterful that it was difficult to decide. GTA IV was a narrow choice, for sure.

And yes, they have said that the Xbox 360 is their console of choice and that is because of, well, points and the vast collection of games it offers. It also came first and many people will follow the initial system and support that one the most, even when they have another console. The PS3 is still great, yes, but I still prefer to play my 360 for most games. My stance is still "neutral" and all that shit but I do play games on one system more than others.

It's a shame because the sites content clearly does suffer as a result, even in baron spells of 360 releases we get little to nothing on other platforms, as recent times have shown to me.

I must admit, when they're talking about some - with the greatest of respect - rather average XBOX Live Arcade/WiiWare releases it would be nice for them to mention something like the PSN's Zen Pinball or whatever. Anyone would think PSN games didn't exist to listen to the Bombcast at times.

Alas, there is a definite 360 bias there but it's not like they really talk shit about other platforms. Sometimes I wish they'd spend more time talking about the other platforms because it does seem the podcast is usually at least 70% XBOX discussion. Thankfully for me as a Playstation owner, there's a HUGE amount of crossover there. But I mean, if you're a Wii owner you have NO reason to visit this site at all.

EDIT: Although to be fair they did spend lots of time on Trash Panic and Noby Noby boy and stuff so scratch my original point.

To be fair I think 360 is the most popular console among the harcore and they are just covering what people want to the best of their ability. You wouldn't complain last generation that someone seemed to cover more ps2 than xbox or gamecube.

If I remeber correctly, that's because Nintendo and MS give out a press release about the games that are coming out to XBLA/Wii shop on a monday, while Sony releases one after they've put the game out on tuesday.

No. Just no.

I have heard that Podcast a billion times, and at the start of that Podcast, you had all 4 different guys going for 4 different games. Dead Space, Banjo K, MGS4 and GTAIV.

Ryan was heavily pushing for MGS4, making a lot of good points for the game while Jeff was for GTAIV - then they switched, and finally rested on GTA.

Nowhere did they mention anything about what platform it came on.

And how in the hell can you consider GTAIV an Xbox 360 release? Even if 360 did have exclusive expansions, they were not judging the game on unreleased expansions - just on the release of the game itself.

Your post fails. Hard.
