:/

I think that award goes to the Wii.

Also, considering at least Vinny brought and almost finished Trash Panic... fanboyism nullified. NO fanboy would dare come near Trash Panic ;)

Wow didn't think I would get so much mail sent to me. Anyways, that picture I have as my avatar that was a tribute to Shane when he lost his job at 1up. Believe it or not thats what it is. And check out my profile. I had a 360. Unfortunatly I had to sell it to repair my PC.

And last, I'm not putting down GiantBomb, It's great that they love the 360. I just wanted to get people's opinions on what they think.

And to comment on your post Fr0Br0, then how come they didn't do the same for GTA IV? They didn't talk about the flaws at all. GTA IV is a good game I do own it (check my acheivments) but I know there are a lot of flaws in that game.

Hell, the first DLC episode wasn't even out yet. So the 360-exclusive DLC had no influence on their decision. After much discussion they decided that GTA IV was a better game than MGS 4. But it was very close.

They are gamers who are admittedly more interested in traditional console playing than Wii-like interfaces, so you can rule out the Wii.

In terms of sales, the 360 is more successful and better received in America than the PS3 -- all signs point to 'Well d'uh!'.

That's not to say they don't like other consoles though, they've all spoke pretty highly of MGS4 and inFamous lately, so I wouldn't say they're as biased as they could be at all.

I'm saying the type and volume of games coming to the 360 makes it this generation's PS2.   Not sales of hardware.

Anyways, I enjoy GiantBombs humor on the podcasts a lot. But, I'm beginning to feel that the staff is favoring the Xbox 360 over every other platform .  . .

So, any opinions?

This feeling is common among listeners of every video game podcast I listen to.  A search amongst the listeners of the Joystiq podcast or CAGcast will lead to people making the same accusations: that they are favoring the Xbox 360.  This is, of course, both true and untrue.  The 360 gets a lot of attention, because the members of these podcasts play their 360s the most.  This is not necessarily a bias; they are just talking about what they know best.

As for why the 360 dominates like this, I think it goes back to how it integrates what you are play with your friends and online play.  The ease of checking in on your friends, setting up games together, etc. was an incredible step forward from the last generation of consoles.  And because the 360 was first out the gate, it became the standard.  Even if the PS3 does the exact same thing, it is hard to fight the entrenched weight of the 360 and its online community.  Early adopters, which include most game journalists, simply stick with what works, which leads to more 360 talk.

Jeff is also a achievement whore.........

My feelings on this is that they sort of feel like me that the online/achievements and lack of difference of quality across the 2 platforms that when the (Sophie's) choice is made they end up with a 360 copy... And lets be honest their is a shit load more point to complain about on the Wii and Ps3 and lack of improvements on their side...

I feel that they still want the ps3 to succeed because their are some great tiles coming on this platform... And for the Wii wel their hitting a different audience on most of their games so it's a bit unfair to name them and their doing well so their is no need to feel sorry for them.

Man they're a group of four guys reviewing games.  Not thirty.  Four.  Clearly personal opinion may show through a bit with so few reviewers. However, none of the guys are fanboys; so what if they play Xbox?  I play Xbox and I'm no fanboy - Hell, I may buy a PS3 when I have some throw-around cash to spend.  I play the 360 'cause it was released first, and I bought peripherals and games and really just don't feel like re-buying all that stuff for a PS3.

So am I a fanboy?  No; and I think the same is true for the GB fellas.

I dont understand something. Why is it if someone has a preference they are immediately a fanboy. I, IN ALL CASES, buy the Xbox 360 version of games even though I have a PS3 and have had it since launch.

The reasons for this are all rational.

1. I like the controller better. There was a time when i said the Dual Shock was the greatest controller of all time. Then the 360 controller came out. It is my favorite, it might not be yours, but its mine.

2. Xbox Live. I have a knack for getting into a party and chatting with friends when I play single player games. I realize this is possible but the vast majority of my friends dont have PS3s, and the ones who do, myself included, dont have headsets.

3. Taste. I own Resistence, and I don't like it. I own MGS4. I don't like it. I tried the Killzone demo for hours hoping it would click. It never did. Uncharted was ok but I never bought it. I have nothing against these titles and see why critics and gamers love them but I tried them and they didnt tickle my fancy. Other games that didnt grab me? Gears of War 1 and 2 and I am not a huge Halo fan.

I bought the PS3, Sony OWES me. I don't owe them anything. If i play a game I give it a few hours, and if it doesnt click I move on. I might be worse off for this but thats my loss. I would love to turn on my PS3 more. Valkyria Chronicles was pretty amazing, same with Little Big Planet.

I dont understand why taste is a bad thing. None of these Giant Bomb guys give too shits what a platform a game is on they just want to use them all. Sure they might prefer one controller over the other, or the dashboard of another, but it is their job to review games, obviously bias of console goes out the door.

GTA4 and MGS4 were both shitty games IMO, and that podcast iffuriated me because they talked as if GTA4 was flawless. GTA might have "story" and sadly if that is the pinnacle of gaming story we have a long way to go, but it has terrible repetetive gameplay. MGS on the other hand is about the most ignorant shit wrapped in an intellecual ball. The story is bloated and the shooting mechanic and stealth is bogged down by arcahic controls. This is my opinion, all the respects to Kojima, and the fans of the game. It is NOT for me.

I honestly thing the trend is that PS3 gets off easy. Average games become A+ titles because the reviewers just want something to talk good about on the PS3.

This is a forum site and that is all.  Of all of the sites I frequent, the journalism here is one of the worst.  Take Gamespot for example.  They may write the occasional shite article, but at least they write on a broad range of subjects.  The journalism here is so bad, I just don't bother to read 95% of it.

They need to employ the talents of some people who will write a decent article on Nintendo for a start.  Before you flame me, remember, I have a 360 and no PS3.

As for being fanboys though, no, they are not.  They just simply write on what they like.  That isn't a compliment.

I hate to say it, but aside from the RRoDs and E74s and random breakage that the 360 suffers from, it is an amazing fucking console.  Great online infrastructure, great catalogue of games, great multimedia potential, great LAN support, and hell...they still have games that are four-player split-screen!!!

So...I can absolutely see why it's the go-to console for not just GiantBomb, but for most other game websites as well.  =  D

Yeah. I think we all do need to bare in mind that they are not being paid to cover a certain platforms, and will instead follow their natural interests. We really cannot blame them for that, but what we can blame them for is not allowing the community to fill the void. They should ask the readership to submit well written articles and news stories, in the same way it can be done on Gamespot.

They seem to be fair to all games in general in reviews, so if they do prefer the 360 I don't think it matters too much.

And every console craps out eventually, in a matter of a few years, so hardware isn't at all less relient.

If they are looking for readership input on news, then I vote for Linkyshinks for Nintendo stuff :-)

My Sega Mega Drive still works, as does my SNES, N64, both Gamecubes, Gameboy, Gameboy Colours, Gameboy Advances and for that matter Xbox.  It is about failure rate, not that everything will eventually fail.  The 360 has a completely unacceptable failure rate and far beyond anything the game console market has EVER seen (including the PS2).

I'd say they're Xbox 360 fans, not fanboys.

If they said every upcoming 360 game would be great and gushed over it, or said every game coming out on non-360 platforms sucked or would suck, that'd be a fanboy.

I think it makes sense from a website focus standpoint too.  360 games make the most money, 360 is the most popular platform among gamers.

Sometimes they don't give complete credit where it is due, like Sony's great E3 conference, but they also snub some 360 games that deserve better as well.

Dave Snide likes CRPGs, but it's the community that matters most to me. You get good information and learn a lot from the community. As for the crew... they do what they do, because they can and they like what they like. You learn to read between the lines.

i'm sure it seems that way (they nearly always review on the 360 version of multiplat games, and this site does not support trophy stuff) but if you are an avid listener of the bombcast, they pretty much explain why they use the 360 more.

it's nothing personal, it's just an easier console to work with (literally) and online is unmatched. they don't prefer it because they love bill gates, they prefer it because it makes their job easier.

At this point, the problem is pretty miniscule on new 360s...and even then, most of the shit that goes wrong with a 360 is under a 3-year warranty!  Therefore, the problems that do come up are something I think anyone can honestly deal with.

Nonetheless, I think it's more interesting that every single person ignores the biggest console-selling fact of them all:  most households that own a 360 or a PS3 also own a Wii...and coincidentally, PC gaming is still solid.  Therefore, given that you own a PC and I'm sure you own another console that isn't a 360, there's honestly no reason for you to be gameless otherwise.  You are simply hurting yourself by not owning a 360 at this point, especially since you can pick them up for pretty damn cheap now.

I do agree with you that Giant Bomb favours the 360, but I don't think the GotY is the best example. They were nitpicking during that podcast, and they said a lot of glowing things about the game.

But does that matter? I think we have entered the era of subjective journalism. Here in the UK, almost every newspaper has a political agenda and a bias (Guardian is pro-Labour, Telegraph is pro-Tory), and America's news networks are much the same, I believe, especially with FOX News' extreme right wing agenda. So in this era of subjective journalism, it's all about finding the people you agree with. I'm absolutely fine with Giant Bomb tilting a bit more 360, because it's the only current gen console I own and love it to bits. So without trying to sound too harsh, love it or leave it.

Doesn't it also make sense that they favour the 360 because they think it's a better video game platform than the PS3? They've said as much in podcasts before, although some are more tilted than others (Jeff is a 360 fanboy, Brad and Vinny, less so). That can be an objective view that they see the platform as better for playing games on. It's like arguing that they are biased towards Street Fighter IV over Soulcalibur IV. Their opinion is both objective, as game journalists, and subjective, as game fans.
