The best way to experience Los Angeles is to never, ever go to Los Angeles, which is why it’s nice that Microsoft will be giving you a convenient way to avoid that by streaming its E3 press conference through Xbox Live this year.

Microsoft’s press conference takes place on Monday, June 4, and should kick off around 10:00 a.m. PST.

We’ll be there. Probably. I guess.

Microsoft isn’t the first company to offer alternate ways to watch its E3 press conference. Last year, Sony held a live stream of its press conference through Home. I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than Los Angeles.

As nice as it is of Microsoft to offer this, I have never seen an E3 press conference I actually enjoyed watching.

that home e3 thing was pretty cool though

Sony will be live streaming through the PSblog, the playstation site and Home (lol).

Not going to Los Angeles is great advice.

You never saw the 2010 Nintendo conference, the one where every other game was bigger than the next? I think that's the one they announce donkey kong, epic yarn, kid icarus and luigis mansion 2, it was insane.

Did they say weather this will also be live streamed over the web?

Don't even have to get out of bed. Is alright with me.

It's always livestreamed over the web, but not by first party sources.

So long as I can find the old crew and have the big old skype reunion, I'm excited.

The best way to hear about the Xbox is by not using an Xbox.

The Xbox Dashboard is harder to navigate than Los Angeles.

There, those are my two jokes. Take your pick.

Hey, awesome, you know I'm always sitting in front of my Xbox in the middle of the fucking day during the work week. That's how happy-go-lucky and fucking carefree I am. Thanks, Microsoft!

Everything's better than Los Angeles.

Sony actually put up their press conference on PSN for download as well, which is the way I watched it. Like many of you, I actually have to work everyday, so seeing it live isn't an option, no matter where its broadcast.

Is there an easy way to see a decent quality Microsoft conference after the fact?

#16 Posted by Napalm (9020 posts) -

Why don't they do it through Xbox.com if you're logged in? FFS, Microsoft. Xbox Live is really slow and clunky. I'd rather not have to deal with constant stuttering and crashing.

And then I actually realized I probably wouldn't even watch this live regardless, so nevermind.

Will you guys open the chat for the streams?

#18 Posted by Rayeth (1021 posts) -

Los Angeles is fine. All you need is to have a car, and you're set. There will be traffic (and that totally sucks), but as long as you have a car you'll be fine. If you try and use public transport, you might as well just not go.

#19 Posted by waypoetic (92 posts) -

WOW. You can watch the E3 show LIVE from your CONSOLE? On your XBOX? WHY... No other con- oh wait. The PS3 has done this for 3 years straight now.

#20 Posted by Cretaceous_Bob (503 posts) -

I don't know why Microsoft takes so long to do shit that makes common fucking sense.

#21 Posted by Phatmac (5721 posts) -

Was that dig at Sony really necessary? In any case this is cool.

#22 Posted by ImmortalSaiyan (4676 posts) -

Everything sucks when you stay up all night in Los Angeles.

I hope you will all join me in the chat again this year.

Heh. When I lived in LA, I tried to take the Metro from downtown to Burbank. It took 3 busses, 2.5 hours, and about $5 in homeless pity fees.

US-only?

#26 Posted by Trilogy (2645 posts) -

I think I'll just stream the whole god damned event on my personal computer.

Gamespot or gametrailers will stream them usually.

#31 Posted by Hector (3354 posts) -

Nice.

#32 Posted by Mechanized (319 posts) -

Gamespot consistently has the best conference coverage so I'll pass, but it's nice to have options.

#33 Posted by Nicky92 (76 posts) -

The best experience of watching an E3 press conference is actually sitting there for real. You have to endure all the crap about how well systems are selling and all that boring crap but when the games get playing especially the most anticipated games on the massive screen it has to be the best. Those lucky game journalists.

It's hardly a dig at Sony as it is a dig at Home being a useless piece of shit. Which it is.

#37 Posted by Zor (653 posts) -

If i recall correctly, the last few years, different companies have been doing this (live streaming), and it usually works, although there a lag... hopefully the lag this year won't be noticeable, but who knows, and don't forget, these events almost never start on time people, so please don't spam the chat room with useless text... ah, who am i kidding, that all that going to be in the chat, that and 'who won E3?','Company B won","No company C did", "You're a fanboy", "No you are", etc...

Sigh, i guess my only real hope is that people in the press and at home won't pick a cgi /non-gameplay trailer as their best of show again... but i know they will :(

Does Santa Monica count as LA? I think it's way pretty there...I actually like a lot of the area around Los Angeles.

#39 Posted by FreakAche (2949 posts) -

I'll just watch it on Gamespot like a sane person. Apart from third party video apps, video streaming on the Xbox has never seemed to work particularly well.

Mister Klepek, I like your writing, but this one had a taint of jadedness to it with regards to what seems to be the hassle of e3. I feel that this attitude is endemic to most of the gaming press as of late and it saddens me.

Isn't every year Ridge Racer year?

Also do you think you'll have to be a Gold member to watch what is basically a giant ad? Sadly I'm thinking yes.

There's nothing positive to say about LA for the most part, other than most of the time its at least 80 miles away from me.

But I've got to let you in on a little secret:

I HATE San Francisco too.

Regardless of your interest in being there, you miss 80% of the news and info coming out of E3 purely by being there in the thick of the madness, rather than observing it all from a distance in a distilled format like you will at home.

...at least you have to open Home to see ads, meanwhile you simply have to open you xbox to be flooded with shitty useless ads and ads and more ads shoved down your throat.

....you dont even need to bend over, MS is doing all the work for you.

#49 Posted by Goldanas (544 posts) -

@Brad: I suppose the only benefit then is that bigshots like you fellows get some behind-closed-doors viewings, hands-ons, and events that the regulars like us wouldn't.

#50 Posted by DougCL (208 posts) -

thats more convenient than gametrailers.
