The Xbox One is Microsoft's third video game console. It was released on November 22nd 2013 in 13 countries.
Do you think the XBOX ONE non-gaming content is designed/created only for USA users?
As rudimentary as it was in retrospect, the whole SkyTV thing or whatever it was in the UK tells me that Microsoft is most likely going to be dedicated to global media distribution through this platform. I would love it if people from outside the US could elaborate on what kind of non-gaming media stuff was part of the PS3 and Xbox 360 over the course of its life or at least their ownership of the consoles.
In the short term for certain, and short of the creation of an international freetrade zone for digitally distributed goods, I can't see how my local TV market can ever satisfy my demands, Xbox One-enhanced or otherwise.
If they manage to do for TV content what Spotify does for music...
I believe it is only designed for people that live in the US. There are so many legitimate reasons (As of Today) for not picking up a Xbox 720 (fuck the One name).
My reason? Always on Kinect. It's always watching and hearing...
I suspect this is all being designed primarily with the American audience in mind. I'm sure they'll attempt to implement media services outside of the US but I doubt they'll be as fully featured.
At launch, yeah. I figure that stuff will be available later on worldwide ... but as a Canadian, I'm used to not getting shit right away. Thank god for shit like the mediahunt extension on Chrome.
It certainly feels that way. Watching the whole reveal show for me was just one big checklist of features that I most likely wouldn't have access to, either due to regional restrictions or poor internet quality. I get they want to appeal to a wider audience but I personally just want to see games.
As someone that doesn't live in the US, I was very put off by the amount of US only/centric content being shown.
Considering it was a worldwide reveal, they made a huge mistake by making it look like it has nothing to offer anyone else.
Well it does seem to be the focus for right now and i'm sure it will expand to other regions. The only problem i see is they will lose more mind share outside of US and US is looking like a heated battle ground which make it seem short sighted unless this media hub plan works for them big time.
No. They have said that it is currently being designed for 42 different countries.
If you were asking "was it designed primarily for the US market" then my answer would be different.

That's funny because I DO live in the US and I was very put off by the content. Since there's an IR receiver port on the back plus HDMI IN, I'd imagine that it'd work with any set top box they want. I'm not seeing how it was US centric? It did feature both kinds of football after all.
the Xbone seems like it's made for dude-bro's who like fantasy sports and CoD. They have those kinds of people all over the world.
